Sunset veranda vs bump out veranda

We are booked on the Eclipse to the Caribbean next February. We’ve chosen a sunset veranda cabin (1407) but after doing some research I see that some of the cabins on the bump out have a much larger balcony (9298). Love the wake but being midship with a bigger balcony is tempting. Has anyone experienced both and have some suggestions? TIA

Not sure if the balconies are that much bigger, just slanted.  Have done both and enjoy both, but, you're right about loving the wake.  Check out cruisedeckplans.com - they have some pictures of both cabins or at least same category.  Enjoy

Yes, the staterooms on the slant/angle have 2-3 times larger balconies than the aft balconies.  1407 has a normal sized balcony with little overhang from the sun/inclement weather.  9298 has 2x larger balcony than 1407.  I would go for 9298.  Better location on the ship.

Thanks. It didn’t feel like a tunnel? The same cabin is available on the port side. Is there a big difference?

We often have either and like both (actually have a hump on Eclipse this June), but overall our first choice would be the aft facing.  We enjoy the view.

No, it won't feel like a tunnel.  The cabin on the port side is also a connecting stateroom cabin, but it has the bed by the balcony.  9298 has the bed by the bath.  Same size stateroom.  

 

The only difference with the connecting stateroom is the stateroom door on a non-connecting cabin opens out into the alcove, whereas a connecting stateroom, the stateroom door opens into the stateroom.  Sometimes it will conflict with the bathroom door.  If that door is left open when someone enters the stateroom, they will clang together.

Just done a Sunset Veranda on Edge, and have sailed in the largest bump out balconies 3 times now on Eclipse & Solstice.

 

Forgetting about the differences in the classes, think I prefer the sunset slightly. No passing traffic, minimal noise, and the wake is very hypnotic and calming.

 

Whichever you finally end up with will be great either way benefits!

We have experienced both balconies and both of them are our favorite. However, we like the deeper balconies for the space and also to enjoy the shade and no rain.

Thank you. We like to take breakfast on the balcony. Are regular chairs available too ?

Those are the only chairs we had. We sailed in concierge class so we had the footstools (which are a separate piece). Not sure if the footstools come with lower balcony cabin categories.

Footstools- no and yes.

No - not as standard 

Yes - we offer the Room Steward $20 cash for 2 Footstools and that has only failed once.

I like the deeper balconies on the hump for the shade. I’d pick that every time.

I have been in both Sunset & the Hump cabins. Much prefer the bigger balconies on the slant as I like to look down at the sea and the extra space is a bonus. We found on the Sunset cabin there was little shade so couldn't sit outside for too long + we had to wipe the sun chairs each time to get rid of soot. Some people love the Sunset cabins but we didn't

Another vote for the cabins on the slant over aft cabins.

We have enjoyed both, and would not hesitate to book again, but find the additional space and cover to be the deciding factor.

We have Aqua cabin 1549 booked. I hope that is a good balcony.

Here's another vote for the sunset veranda. We've done bump-out cabins a few times and a sunset once and preferred the sunset. We did get a small amount of soot on a few days and it is a much longer walk to the rear of the ship whereas the bump-out rooms are near to the elevators, so that's worth you considering.

We have never tried the sunset veranda but always book the first room on the back slant. Absolutely love that room.

The view is everything in the balcony is large. Love the aft.
