Southampton port and serving drinks

last year we sailed out of Southampton and could not get a drink till around ten at night.   We are getting ready to sail out of Southampton in May and wondering if it is still a no alcohol port

If you are staying in Southampton pre cruise, try the Duke of Wellington on Bugle Street. Should carry you over until the bars are open on board. Cheers…

Thank you but do you know if you can get a drink on the ship while in port

@lpen5 If you mean aboard the ship then you should have no issue getting a drink. Last October, on the Star we had no issues getting drinks while still docked, somehow I missed the sail away.

Should not be a problem. That alcohol ban was only for a short time last year.

It shouldn’t be a problem, but this problem has been coming and going in Europe at various ports over the past couple of years.

 

We have never found out what the problems have been, so nobody can say for sure that they won’t happen again.

 

All we can say is that a small proportion of cruises were affected, so you are unfortunate if it does happen. However any issues do tend to be towards the start of the season.

 

We are on the first European sailing on the Viva in April and, whilst I don’t expect problems, I know that it’s possible.

We were on the Joy for a transatlantic in February out of Southampton. The booze was flowing at all the bars and no extra taxes. Cheers!

Who knows when NCL will try it on again.

 

Eventually NCL apologized for the mess early last year and offered a gesture of some compensation.
