Do U Get Hotel points and Frequent Guest Benefits on Regent Bookings?

I have booked two cruises with included pre cruise hotel stays and tours. I have Marriott Titanium status and am wondering whether my benefits like included breakfast, early check in and executive lounge access are recognized when staying in a Marriott Hotel booked under a Regent group category. Thanks for any advice/experience on this.

It depends - I also have lifetime elite status with both Hilton and Marriott. Both programs clearly state that elite benefits are only available if you book directly with them (or through an approved corporate booking service) and not through a 3rd party, such as Travelocity and Expedia. Also, certain "group" rates do not qualify for elite benefits. That being said, on occasion I have had my status recognized when booked through Regent, depending on the location and on other times I have not with the excuse being that the rate used for the booking does not qualify for elite benefits.

 

Since I am drowning in hotel points and earn more than I burn, most of the time I take the Regent credit and book my own hotel to take full advantage of the elite benefits.

I have Marriott Lifetime Titanium status and did get access to the lounge and a better breakfast the last time Regent booked the room - as did quite a few others that we met.  However,  not all of the hotels will honor.

In past no points or stay credits with Marriott.  They did allow us in the lounge - also a lifetime Titanium elite.

 

Just back from Tokyo.  Regent used Hilton, had three pre-cruise nights plus 2 of our own.  Only received points and night status for the two nights.

These days, what qualifies as eligible changes so often. Something such as the booking category matters. Just make sure your frequent customer number is on each booking. And then cross your fingers. If it’s eligible, you’ll get the credit.

It's always a good idea to let your hotel know that you are a member of their program because you never know. I've done this with cruise-line-booked-hotels before, and at a very minimum, I got upgraded Internet.

The crossed fingers worked, as I got 4,419 award miles and 4,419 loyalty points from AA for my Regent-booked return to Chicago from Barcelona yesterday. We paid the deviation to fly back on 5/1 instead of when we disembarked on 4/24.

My understanding is that bookings made by Regent, or any other third party, after May 1 will not receive AA miles/points. Looks like you just got under the wire.

AA has put this idea of only allowing miles earning on direct bookings and with preferred agencies on hold. Not sure when it will start but also not clear whether cruise line arranged air will or will not be considered to be "preferred" suppliers such that miles will be earned on bookings by them.

Earning on flights

Book directly with American

Starting with tickets issued on July 11, 2024, the only flights that earn AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points are those booked directly with American, eligible oneworld® and partner airlines, and preferred travel agencies.

Flights booked through non-preferred travel agencies will not earn miles or Loyalty Points, unless the customer is registered with the AAdvantage Business program or has a contracted corporate agreement with American.

Booking with us provides a better travel experience. You can manage your trip online, receive travel credit for canceled trips and more. Plus, you’ll continue to earn miles and Loyalty Points through our non-airline partners and on eligible purchases with an AAdvantage® credit card.

Eligible travel

You must book directly to earn on flights. ‘Booking directly’ includes travel booked through American or our partner airlines’:

  • Websites
  • Apps
  • Reservations and airport teams
  • Ticket sales centers

Find a ticket sales center 

You can also earn miles and Loyalty Points on most flights:

  • As an AAdvantage Business member, anywhere you book
  • As part of a contracted corporate agreement with American, anywhere you book
  • Through our preferred travel agencies

Plus, all flights booked as part of an American Airlines Vacations package will continue to be eligible.

Basic Economy tickets

The only way to earn on Basic Economy fare tickets is if you book through American or our eligible airline partners’ websites, apps, Reservations and airport teams, or ticket sales centers.

Ineligible travel

You’ll no longer earn miles or Loyalty Points on:

  • Basic Economy fares that are not booked directly through American or our partner airlines
  • Basic Economy fares not booked directly through American as an AAdvantage Business member or as part of a contracted corporate agreement
  • Any trip booked through non-preferred travel agencies, unless you’re registered with the AAdvantage Business program or have a contracted corporate agreement with American

Unsure if your trip will earn miles?

For corporate travel, check with your company travel manager.

If you’re booking through a travel agency, check with them once this change begins. We will also have more information about preferred agencies by June 5, 2024.

Helpful to know. Now anti trust regulators and litigators may spring into action. Time will tell if they pull this off successfully.

Just another elegant reminder why I said goodbye to AA many years ago. I used to fly coast-to-coast round trip, first class, paid, not miles, about every 10 days. I was one of the first Aadvantage program members. And then they decided to come up with 100 reasons to screw me out of my mountain of miles. That was the end for me. 
 

This was back in the Bob Crandall days. I got to know the crews pretty well and they always told me to switch to United. They hated Crandall. 
 

Had to take a short AA flight last year. They left us sitting in Philadelphia for 5 hours without a single syllable of explanation or apology. Seriously. Not one word. Then, finally on the plane, we were subjected to a 10 minute, high volume sales pitch for an AA credit card. Never, in thousands of flights, have I ever heard anything quite like it. 
 

When the flight attendant offered me an application I gently suggested that a simple “sorry for the 5 hour delay” would have been nice. She looked at me like I was insane.

I'd say maybe frontier or spirit might take that title.  I can say I have had bad experiences on United, Delta and American.  I have lifetime status on them all.   I'm not sure I'm comfortable flying a UA flight with their hiring criteria today.   The glamourous flying days of Pan AM and TWA are long, long gone.   You fly to get somewhere as least painlessly as possible.  Even the best meal on a plane today pales to what you would get on regent.

American has issues like DL and UA, but they do seem to take the lead in unfriendly customer policies. Closing doors early on flights & thus screwing connecting passengers who are a little late thru no fault of their own, not matching DL in offering free wifi, and now this effort to limit AA miles earnings...certainly shows a pattern. Agree that UA's move toward prioritizing woke policies over efficiency and safety are disturbing. For now, Delta is best of the 3.

I still miss TWA.

I agree. By far! I am not much of a fan of flying these days, but Delta is as good as it gets. They even apologize when they have a delay. What a concept.
