What's the weather like.

Recommended Posts

Obviously you can Google it and find out something more based on long-term trends, but I did a late-September cruise out of NYC to along New England to St. John's...and the weather was in the mid-60's to mid-70's depending on location.

Probably similar to your weather. You have to be prepared for cool days and cool nights with layered clothing, as well as warm days. In C maybe 10 overnight, 15 evenings, 20 to 25 daytime. Don't forget the rain jacket.

It is hurricane season when hurricanes and tropical storms can run up the coast from the tropics. If you encounter one expect rough waters and warmish temps.

Expect fog at sometime over the course of the cruise as well.  If it's bad enough, it could eliminate a port stop if the ship can't safely dock.

The ocean in the Gulf of Maine never really warms up even in the height of the summer, so warm air off the land going over cold water will rapidly create sea fog.  And it will definitely be cooler on the ocean than on the land.  As said upthread, you could have days in the 70s (F) and nights down into the mid-upper 40s.

We set a record when we were in Nfld with 75 and clear.  Absolutely no fog and clear skies.  Next trip the opposite.

Bring an umbrella and clothing to layer up if needed.

Google is your friend for weather.

And yes it can have gale force winds and much cooler.

Mostly cloudy - 85 degrees

Probability of reaching 85F (30C) is not very high. More like 25C (75F) on a good day along the coast.

Yes I remember a few years ago a hurricane followed us up the east coast, we went up the St Lawrence river where it bypassed us and went up to St John's Newfoundland. We got in, but apparently they had it pretty rough and a gentleman had died. That was the second time we had encountered a hurricane, the first time we didn't dock at St, John's but steamed off into the Atlantic where we caught the tail end of it. It was a bit rough, but the up side was that a swimming pool at the aft of the ship was empty and I was able to sit and watch and had the pool to myself.
