Transpacific cruise, what is the ship time zone? is the ship time zone local time zone?

Recommended Posts

Generally the ships clocks are adjusted to match local time as the ship cross time zones.

ย

The time of day when the adjustment takes place is at the captain's digression - on my recent sailings eastbound adjustments were made at noon, and westbound adjustments were made in the early morning 'midwatch' time period.

The comments made by @TheOldBearย reflect our experience as well with adjustments being made to ship time to match the time zones transitioned on the day they occur.ย  In this manner you also have the opportunity to adjust to your destination time, typically one hour on a single day at a time.

Thank you both.ย  How the time zone change was announced ? through a broadcast or through the Hub app?ย

Typically announced at some point during the change day, noted in the app, and indicated in the daily newsletter, if one is published.ย  They pretty much cover all bases and it is pretty hard to miss - LOL.

ย

Hello @FriendlyGuy01ย and welcome to Cruise Critic and the message boards!

ย

Thank you for your new topic on theย Ask a Cruise Questionย forum!ย However, it is the forum forย generalย questions regarding cruising. Your inquiry concerns a specific type of cruise and is off topic there.

ย

To help you out, your new topic has been moved to theย Transatlantic, Transpacific, Repositioning & Trans-Ocean Cruisesย forum where it will be on topic.ย The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed those type of cruisesย frequent thisย forum and provide feedback here.ย Browse through the thread titlesย onย thisย forumย looking forย threadsย of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic membersย have already posted questions and received answers that will be of interest to you.

ย

The Cruiseย Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers,ย andย we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse theย Cruise Critic Communityย categoriesย list for the various message board forums.ย I suggest you Bookmark the page or put it in your Favorites for quick and easy access in the future.ย Please read a fewย threads inย the different forumsย to get a feel forย whatย eachย forumย is about.ย Make sure youย read any pinned threads (akaย Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will findย very importantย instructions or informationย there.

ย

Please remember the following portion from theย Guidelinesย we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

ย

Anytime you need toย start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic.ย Word your new thread titleย in a way to helpย the members know exactly the information you seek.ย This greatly helps the membersย browsing through the thread titlesย and if theyย know the information,ย theyย will post a reply to you.

ย

Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to onlyย oneย topicย such as one cruise line, one ship,ย one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum.ย You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, sail date or port in your message if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members answer you.

ย

You need to find and post on the Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship and sail date. That is where you will find fellow Cruise Critic members sailingย with you!ย Please readย What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Knowย andย How To: Create A New Roll Call.ย For more information about our famous Roll Calls, pleaseย read theย Roll Callsย andย Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Callsย sections in theย Guidelines.ย We also have the following Cruise Criticย article you might enjoy:ย 8 Reasons to Join a Cruise Critic Roll Call

ย

The specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your ship, line, and sail date is theย ONLYย place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread membersย are allowed toย post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" there since you are all sailing together!ย Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread.ย Especially thoseย that may have sailedย your line, ship or itineraryย before. Also, they may have already posted share requests that may interest you.ย Roll Callsย are for Cruise Critic members on the same cruise. They get to know one another before their cruise soย there will be all kinds of discussion in the Roll Call thread for their cruise!

ย

Once you locate the Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship and sail date if one is already created, first read through the whole thread to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you. Then use the dark blueย Reply to this topicย button to join the Roll Call by posting an introductory post about yourself on the Roll Call thread. When done with your message, click the dark blueย Submit Replyย button.ย

ย

If you want to address a particular post already in the thread, be sure to use theย Quoteย feature on that post as I did yours above. That way all will be aware of what your post concerns. You type your message UNDER the light blue quote box then click the dark blueย Submit Replyย button.ย If the member you quoted has used theย Followย feature on the thread, they will get a notification that you have replied to their post.

ย

If a Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship & sail date has NOT been created, please feel free to create it!ย Just follow the directions inย How To: Create A New Roll Call. Please make sure you use the complete alpha date format for the sail date in the Roll Call thread title.ย Example: January 01, 2024ย ย Then sit back and wait for your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you to join in by posting on the thread. They will appreciate you starting the Roll Call! And don't worry about any responsibilities in starting a Roll Call thread.ย Roll Calls belong to everyone; there is no designated leader or owner. It does not matter who started the thread.

ย

If you ever need technical help in regard toย using the Cruise Critic message board software, go to theย Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here!ย forum. You will see a large amount of "How to..." pinned threads toward the top of the forum's first page. Also, browse through the threads inย the forumย looking forย threadsย of interest. Again, you may find your fellow Cruise Critic membersย have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

ย

So sorry this is so long, but Iย sincerely hope this will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are glad to have youย aboard Cruise Critic!ย

ย

Happy sails,

ย

Host Kat

Then throw an IDL crossing into the mix ๐Ÿ˜„

On my last Pacific crossing, my birthday was celebrated twice (since we crossed the IDL on my birthday).ย  That spurred the question (over a few drinks) whether I aged two years :).

Once, we crossed it officially on 25 December but I was banned from performing a one day advance๐Ÿ˜ฌ so weย  missed out on 26 December instead ๐Ÿ˜„
