"Better" is what way? Usually, HAL charges per person about the equal to what you would pay double occupancy. The difference is the added transfers, but you can almost always do better booking on your own.

I find the hotel package much more amenable in South America and Europe as it includes added features like early check in, breakfast, transfers and sometimes a small city tour. In the US and Canada it does not offer as much added value and it is likely better to book your own hotel

I know that one that they use is the Pan Pacific.

They also use the Sheraton but when you book you are shown your options.

You can go online at HAL to see what HAL charges.  I believe it includes the transfer to the hotel.  You won’t need a transfer to the ship if you stay at the Pan Pacific.

We booked the Pan Pacific on our own since it was cheaper than the HAL package.  We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel because we needed help with luggage.  You can also use public transportation from airport to hotel.  If you haven’t stayed at the Pan Pacific, it is right at the pier and is a special experience.  You can see your ship come in.  The hotel will arrange to transfer your luggage to the ship as long as you have your luggage tags attached.

The Marriott Pinnacle in downtown Vancouver is in a nice area with lots of great restaurant's. We like  taking a Uber to the hotel and then to the port.
On your return to the airport, after your cruise, take a taxi. The port moved the Uber pickup and it is a bit of a walk.
