Not counting the millions who never test?  Just so you know - here in Switzerland (and probably in other European countries too) we cannot even get tested.  Government says no need for tests because Covid now is like flu. So there are no tests. And it is treated like flu.  You don't test for flu so why test for anything else like it?   I have never had a Covid test.  And have never had any flu-like symptoms either.   I have been vaccinated since the vaccines first came out.  And will get another one in November when that comes out.   So it isn't just a question of testing positive.

Things are looked at differently here in Europe...

Why is flu not tested?  Tamiflu can make a huge difference in severity and length of illness.  ( And yes, I get flu shot every year.  Just got it today. )

I have never heard of a test for flu.  Just a diagnosis from a doctor - cold symptoms, sore throat, high temperature etc - aches and pains means flu.  Could also mean other things.  We are told to deal with colds alone.  Go to a pharmacy or a doctor if we have a temperature.  And then take whatever they give us.   we certainly get flu shots.   But I haven't had any colds, flu or anything else in over 10 years.  So I wouldn't really know if there was a specific test for this.    I know Swiss doctors tend to over-medicate.  But I think US doctors invent things that aren't there...

Here in US, there is definitely a test for flu.  No home test…go to clinic or dr office.  Tamiflu can really shorten a case of true flu if taken early.  Not the bad cold people then call the flu.

I can say in clinical practice, not only are there tests for flu, there are tests for variants and sub-variants.  With the advent of antivirals, they can truly assist those patients with comorbidities.  I have found it amazingly helpful to find out if a patient has the flu vs COVID vs bacterial in treating them.

Saw this morning in newspapers (and confirmed on  CDC website)  that Covid isolation guidelines have shifted in part to match those of otherer common Respiratory viral illnesses including the flu and RSV. Guidelines are now based on symptoms and not testing positive.  "cleared to resume normal activities when the following are both true for 24 hours:  Your symptoms are getting better overall and you haven't had a fever" (without taking fever reducing med)

Common guidelines when I was still working, was if you had a fever you were contagious and shouldn't be at work (this was way before Covid)

While I agree I don't want someone sick (no matter what it is ) around me coughing, using common utensils, not washing hands etc  Covid is now considered no different than other illnesses.  I am sure people who had been sick for 3 or 4 days avoided getting tested since the isolation started with the positive test (not when they first got sick)

Spotted this morning outside the medical center on Grandeur, a bunch of pax waiting to be seen, and a line of ship's staff in white uniforms wearing masks.

We are on the ship. Thanks for the warning!

Got to be careful with that "random drug testing" !  A friend of ours who was the CFO at a major international corporate had to take a random drug test.  He failed it.  Why ?  He had had a poppy bagel for breakfast and the test picked it up!!  he never told me what happened next...
