Duct Tape, Collapsible Water Bottles, Hi-lite Pens, Anything Else?

they have these neatest little purses...bought one at Epcot that is red/black brocade with the neatest closure...but also purchased a similar item on the Zuiderdam (not as elegant/cute...but functional). has a long string that goes over your shoulder...has two zipper compartments...is smaller than an index card. You don't really need a purse on board...primarily a lipstick, your room key, some $1.00s for tips and that's about it!

enjoy! Cass

They are both the same thing.. and lots of us take them, because the room does not have much for plug in's. so you can put in more than one thing at a time. Like phone chargers, curling irons, ect.. hope this helps you out..

An alternative for your room key that I loved and also worked great for the kids is to go to an office supply store and buy plastic id card holders. Then you get the clips with the retractable string and you can clip it to the waist of your pants or skirt. I don't like anything around my neck.

One other thing I noticed onboard was people with small thermoses or carafes. We were on deck 5 and the early coffee was on deck 12, so it would have been great to be able to run up, fill the carafe and grab 2 paper cups. Two mugs with covers would have worked too.

Lavender oil is a scent that helps you sleep. Collapsible water bottles are at camping supply stores, but I got the most use out of my bottle from Brita with built in water filter (found at Pathmark). Water in Collapsible bottle got hot. But I had it with me whenever I found a water cooler.

HI I had the brita water bottle last year and loved it, but don't do like I did i filled it the night before and putin fridge to chill...... and there it stayed BUMMER:(

Hi all...I am a newbie to cruising. The lists sound like lots of stuff. Are many of the things "In case ofs...." or so you don't have to buy? some of the ideas are absolutely brilliant, and what doesn't weigh too much we'll do. (or maybe I can pick the things I don't fly down with in Cocoa Beach.)

I am flying from Alaska, luggage weight limited. Can I get rolls of quarters, for instance, on board? Batteries? Is there a place to get Immodium and such on board.

What I am most curious about is clothing....for 7 days for DH. Im thinking shorts, sneakers or sandals and tees during day, dockers +collar shirt for dinner, dark suit and tie for formal night. Do you need to change out of shorts for breakfast and lunch too?

Okay, just back from our cruise... things that I found I did NOT need that I took & things that I found invaluable:

Power strip - did not need. Unless you are going to have more than 2 things going at once you don't need it. They have a hairdryer in most cabins so that was the only thing I needed to plug in & a phone charger. We could simply unplug something for 5 minutes if you needed the outlet, but we never had to.

Bungee cord - did not need. Took it, in case, to hold the door open, but there was nowhere to hook it onto the balcony. If we had wanted the door open we could have just stuck the foot rest in the door or there was a door jam too. But didn't end up leaving the door open at day/night.

Suction hooks - did not need. There was a 'dryer line' in the shower that I used to dry my bathing suit & didn't find anything else that needed to be hooked up.

Over the door clear shoe holder - DEFINITELY the BEST thing we took with us. We hung it over the closet door & put our cameras, suntan lotion, cell phones, clothes roller etc. in it. Pack it!

Duct tape - used it for a scavenger hunt competition (had to get a partridge in a pear tree, so creatively made one... well it kind of looked like one anyway! lol). But didn't use it for anything else. But I would recommend it, just in case.

Thermos/cooler sports bottle - used it during the day on ship. They had free iced tea. So I would fill it up with the crushed ice, ice tea, throw a couple of splendas in, shake it up & voila. Would wonder around the ship with it & didn't have to keep going up to the lido deck to get a free drink. The kind I bought had a zippered insulated shell on the plastic sports bottle. Then a handle stitched down the side - it worked perfectly.

Ziploc bags - useful to have. Took some of 3 different sized bags & used them for bringing snacks off the ship (cookies, fruit, sandwiches), then a bunch of splenda for home. ;)

Laundry detergent - we packed our own liquid detergent in an empty 12oz coke bottle & that worked great, didn't leak at all. Then put dryer sheets in a ziploc bag.

Think that's all.

They have a casino on the ship and you can get all the quarters there you want.. they also has ship stores to shop in.. Like in airports.. you can get just about anything.. I fly also, and I have to watch the weights on my bags.. so I try and pack match stuff to wear.. As far as Hubby, suit coat and tie with dockers will work fine.. On formal night..... No shorts allow at dinner ... but breakfast and lunch in dining room ok.. and you can eat in windjammer in shorts any time.. Hope this helps you out.. Have fun, and your first cruise will not be your last.. You'll have so much fun...

Me again. I remembered another hint I have received from someone in the past and have used. Bring 2 dollar bill and ones. First of all at the begining remember to give or leave a little tip here or there for the room steward when you want something extra. Your waiter too. They will remember you for you 2 dollar bill and give you a little something extra since you thought of them at the start of the cruise. Also you will need ones to tip the room service.

~~Mesh bag with 5 pockets to hang in shower. Holds shampoo, conditioner, razor, shaving cream and soap. Also has 2 loops at bottom to hang washcloths. Bought mine at K Mart. Bag comes with 2 attachments, one to hang over shower head or the other to hang on shower curtain rod. Works great for those small shower spaces and no place to set the things you need. After the cruise, you can just laundry them and place back into your suitcase, waiting for the next cruise.

~~Also have the 22 pocket over the door shoe holder. Helps to keep the cabin neat and everything at hand when needed.

Leaving in less than 3 weeks on Caribbean Princess. ~~~ ~~~

I notice everyone talks a lot about various mesh bags to keep stuff in.

I was shopping all over town (wally world, target, K, 99 cent stores, etc) and could find very little handy stuff that wasn't too expensive. (except for the folding mesh laundry baskets for 99 cents at the dollar store!! bed bath beyond wanted 8.99 for the same thing!)

So I went to the fabric store and found some great mesh "netting" material to make some carry bags and storage! the yardage, seam tape, and tie string materials cost much less than anything I could find - even at wally world! plan ahead and have some time to sew!

BTW, anyone know where to get those folding-mesh loungers with the blow up edges! saw one at the water park the other day, but couldn'g catch the lady to ask!

FOUND THE COLLAPSIBLE MESH LOUNGERS AT SAM'S!

I thought they may be sold out - out of season, but lo and behold they had quite a stock! It was so funny! They were on an endcap with the 2 big display loungers hanging from the ceiling - yet I didn't see 'em! Who looks UP at Sam's?

Luckily my aimless wandering through the last of the summer stuff was fruitful!

I figure that the price for the two of them will pay for itself in one day at a beach without having to PAY for a mat rental! But wait, we have 4 excursion beach days! Ka-Ching the $aving$!

I read the whole list through and with all the dozens of terrific ideas, I never saw a sewing kit (at least needles, thread in three or four colors, and small scissors). When faced with a hem coming out of a pastel or sheer fabric, or a button coming loose, I wouldn't recommend duct tape.

Another thing I usually take along is a dozen sandwich bags, just for incidentals like small souvenir purchases, leftover food to feed the fish or take back to eat later, etc.

I also like to take my bath scrubbie and shower gel.

Plenty of C - A - S - H !!! If you're going to have a balcony, a small clothesline and pins will help you dry your wet stuff faster, as well as keeping it out of the bathroom.

Most important - Take ZipLok freezer bags large enough to seal your camera inside. When you go from the cool ship into the hot, humid Hawaiian (or Caribbean) air, or from your room onto your balcony, your camera will form condensation - both outside and inside. Especially if you have a digital, use the ZipLoc bags. Try to get as much air out of the bag as possible when you zip it. Then leave the camera inside the plastic bag until it warms up. Any condensation will form on the soft plastic, instead of inside and on the camera. If you're in a hurry to warm it up (for example, to take a sunrise or sunset photo), you can warm the camera under your arm. Try this. It works, and will save you having to replace your digital camera too soon.

You might think about a Mr. Clean magic eraser sponge. It will take marks off of shoes and some bags. If kids write on walls, erase it!

A scarf for your head/ears on windy days. A hat.

Hair ties, detangler.

:o Feminine products and meds.

A small travel/language guide if going 'alone' instead of booking a shore excursion.

Pack of mini 'one-use' tubes of crazy glue. Good for buttons on loose thread, hems, glasses repair (temporary), fingernails, etc

glasses screwdriver kit

card game

and finally a BIG SMILE!!! We're going cruisin', gotta looove it!!!!
