Getting Cash from Ship casino

Recommended Posts

Is is true you can get cash at the Ship Casino and they charge it to your S&S account? I think this would be a good way to get cash before going into port without having to carry a bunch of cash around the entire trip, since I am a person prone to losing things :p . Has anyone done this recently? Is there a fee? Would you recommend traveler's checks instead?

As noted above, the ship charges a 3% fee for cash on Sign & Sail.

Don't know if that part of S&S goes to credit card company as a cash advance. If so, many credit cards charge an extra fee and automatic interest for cash advances.

The shipboard ATM charges a 5% fee, plus your own bank charges for foreign ATM.

Better to bring cash on board and use cabin safe.

The 3% casino cash-advance fee is probably the least expensive way to get cash after you board. The best way is to bring all the cash you will need on the entire cruise with you. If that exceeds your comfort level, use travaler's checks.

I find we do not need much cash on the trip. Most of what you need can be purchased with the S&S card onboard or with a Visa card on shore. You will need a certain amount for tips, traveling to/from home, and some private excursion. I would mentally add up all you think you will need and take that amount in cash and/or traveler's checks. There is no charge for cashing traveler's checks on the ship, but you may be charged a fee to buy them.

Yes you can as mentioned there is a small fee, but it does not count as a cash advance on your credit card.

When billed by your credit card company it will just say carnival just as if you were charging your tickets.

Why anyone would bother using the ATM machine is beyond me as this is a much cheaper rate at 3% with no cash advance fees. I guess if using a debit card the ATm would be cheaper if taking out more then $100, I am not sure.

We have this as our back up on every cruise instead of bringing extra cash (we always bring $500 or so) or travelers checks. Sometimes we need to do it, sometimes we don't. It goes on the credit card as a regular charge as part of our onboard. We get the float time from the credit card (always pay it off in full) and the credit card cash back bonus. It is well worth any extra charge for the convenience.

Just our opinion,

Judy

The answer to the question is No. At least thats how it was on Pride and Paradise last year.... You used to be able to give the cage cashier your sign and sail card with your ID, and you can just tell them what you want off your card, and they hand you the cash....

But now you have to insert your sign and sail card into the slot on the slot machine, and just use the keypad to issue yourself "Credits" on that machine.... For example, if you wanted $20.00 worth of quarters you would key in that amount on the machine keypad, and the machine will isssue the credits and charge your card and a 3% fee. Of course you could just cash out your credits and all the quarters would drop and you could take that to the cashier to trade for bills...
