Sue L Posted September 16, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2006 Hey All, I booked cabin 8586 on the front of the hump on the Serenade for next year, but now I see the last cabin on the hump ( facing towards back) is available. There are no middle humps so that is out. For those who have been on the humps which would be better for Alaska? Is one better than the other? More windy? Please give me any advise Sue
sea-cruise Posted September 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2006 Sue, Have a great cruise. Please post your review next week. Thanx again for sending those compasses. BTW, We've never been on a hump, but another poster said that the frontside was very windy. Hope someone who really knows will answer you directly...I'm just bumping. :D

cb at sea Posted September 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2006 If you're moving, the front of the hump will be windier. If you're in port, it won't matter one bit!
DHADEN Posted September 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2006 The only real difference is: Do you want to see where you are going? Do you want to see where you have been?:D Either one will be ABLOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! Hope this helps
Pumbaamd Posted September 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 17, 2006 If you can get the front (as we did in 9576 on the Brilliance), you will see more, sooner, and enjoy the view longer. Like being in the front of the bus vs. the back of the bus.
wrp96 Posted September 17, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2006 It also depends on which side of the ship the other cabin is on. If it is on the port side it will have a huge balcony.
MamaNeedsACruise Posted September 17, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2006 I have always stayed in the middle of the hump with no problems...in two weeks I will be on the Mariner at the front of the hump this time...I'll let you know if there is any difference as far a wind goes...I can already tell you the views will be better from the front. Peggy13 Posted September 17, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2006 We were in front of the hump on the Mariner 7612 and liked it - didn't seem too windy!
Rala Posted September 17, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 17, 2006 PUMBAAMD, We have cabin #9576 in a few weeks on Serenade. Can you tell me about the cabin, especially the balcony? Any particular perks or problems? Could two loungers fit on the balcony since it is larger than standard? Thanks for any info!
Pumbaamd Posted September 17, 2006 #12 Share Posted September 17, 2006 Can't say anything negative about 9576. We had two chairs, a table and one lounger on the balcony. They fit nicely and anything more would crowd it. The wind was never a problem. All the balconies forward can look back and see you, but it was never a problem - just wave back to them. It was convenient to stairs and elevators, but not noisy.
cruisevers Posted September 17, 2006 #13 Share Posted September 17, 2006 For Alaska, you might consider facing aft. We had an aft balcony for our Alaska cruise and it seemed a lot of action (whales breeching) took place after the ship passed by. We watched them forever behind us. Seems by the time the ranger announced a sighting the ship was already past them. Just a thought........

gypsygirl Posted September 17, 2006 #15 Share Posted September 17, 2006 We have the middle of the hump booked on the Navigator. It's on the starboard side. I've been reading that the balconies are larger on the port side. Just curious as to why. Any answer?
wrp96 Posted September 18, 2006 #16 Share Posted September 18, 2006 We have the middle of the hump booked on the Navigator. It's on the starboard side. I've been reading that the balconies are larger on the port side. Just curious as to why. Any answer? On the Radiance class, the port side hump balconies are deeper than those on the Starboard side. On the Voyager class they are the same size on both sides of the ship.
cruisingsaw Posted September 20, 2006 #17 Share Posted September 20, 2006 I just booked 8620 on the Explorer. Just wondering if the balconies are bigger than the non hump E1. Thanks for the help.
gailc Posted September 20, 2006 #18 Share Posted September 20, 2006 wrp96 - There are not any hump cabins on the port side on the Radiance class ships. That's where the elevators are located. We usually book on the port side & were disappointed they didn't have any hump cabins on that side. Gail
Pumbaamd Posted September 21, 2006 #19 Share Posted September 21, 2006 Gail, take a look at the deck plans. There are two hump cabins either side of the el's.
gailc Posted September 21, 2006 #20 Share Posted September 21, 2006 I just took a look at the elevators, & you're right that there are 2 cabins on either side of the elevators. I never noticed that before. It looks like the balcony on 2 of them are larger. We have only had a cabin on the bump 2 times, & they were both in the middle. We were very lucky to get them.
