Has anyone specifically done a b2b out of Galveston?

We have booked a b2b out of Galveston on the Voyager. Has anyone done one out of Galveston on the Rhapsody? This will be our first b2b.

Do we still get up at the crack of dawn the Sunday after the first week?

By the way, we have the same aft cabin both weeks if that helps.

Just wondered what to expect.

Thanks in advance.

I've booked the Voyager B2B, too, for Jan 27 and Feb 3, 2008. Which dates are you booked?

I have the same cabin for both sailings. I'm sure we won't have to get up at the crack of dawn but from what I understand for the B2B's, some staff member will meet with us to take us off the ship and then back on with a new sea pass card, etc. Supposed to be "painless".

No problem, mon. RCI assigns someone to two-step with you off the ship, go through the check-in process for part 2 and then two-step back onto the ship... You don't have to wait in the terminal like the great unwashed who are just coming aboard...

I have read that it was automatically done for some cruisers...others had to inquire at the purser's desk to get someone assigned to you...

I have read that on several posts, including a Rhapsody guest or two. For further details, you might contact Happy2Fly from your Radiance cruise. She has done more B2B than anybody I have ever seen...(She has 4 of them booked right now, including two out of Galveston.)

Snoozeman I'm sure they are all similar........just wondered more or less about getting off in Galveston and whether that might be an option......

LL I knew she had some booked.....but didn't think she had done one yet.

Jim -

Spending the morning in Galveston would be no problem for you. (You're not required to turn around and go right back on the ship - I thought that was what you were wanting to do...) As you know, you could walk to the Strand, or take a taxi to the beach side...There's not much open on the Strand until after 9 or 10 in the morning...

I am doing a B2B in Jan on Rhapsody and Nov on Freedom. I will let you know what happens when we get back.

My understanding is that you can leave with everyone else, and check in as a normal person (not B2B). Or stay on board, and staff will escort you off, through check in and back on board - taking about 20 mins. They also tell you how to bypass the passageway monitors, who will not allow people into the cabins until 13:00. They sometimes lay on a special lunch as well. It would be a good idea to let the Purser know, as well as the cabin attendant. Also, make sure you tip between each week, as the dining room staff rotate, and they may not see you on week 2.

I will do a run down when we get back

I did a b2b on the Rhapsody in May 2005. On Sunday at the end of the first week, we didn't have to get up early, like everyone else. I woke up at around 10:00am, went to the Purser's Desk, they handed me my new SeaPass card and a letter stating that I was already checked in and should be allowed to re-board the ship immediately. We did have to get off the ship and go through immigration/customs, but at 10:30am, it was a breeze. When I tried to get back on the ship, security would not let me enter the terminal saying that it was not open yet for check in. I gave him the letter the Purser's Desk gave me and he checked my SeaPass card and Photo ID and let me through.

It was so neat to do a b2b cruise. The best part was on the last night of the first week. Everyone else was packing and saying their goodbyes, we were just hanging around and relaxing...it felt sorta weird.

One thing to know is at the end of the first week when you dock in Galveston on Sunday, everything on the ship ends. All of the crew are cleaning away and preparing the ship for the next group of passengers. There are no greetings, smiles, nothing. I kinda felt as if I were in their way. I hung out at the pool bar(closed) and waited for the 11:30 boarding call. I went to the gangway to meet my friends who were joining us on our second leg of our b2b. It was soo neat. Oh, we had the same cabin both weeks.

Anyway, hope this gives you an idea of what happens on a b2b.

No savings for our 2 cruises but I guess we are saving some gasoline money by not having to drive to/from port twice.

We like longer cruises and on this particular Galveston B2B, one week is Jamaica, Cayman, Cozumel and the other week is Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya and Progresso - different ports except for Cozumel but we like Cozumel so no problem there.

Also we'll get to "experience Galveston" for a change and have twice as much time on the big Voyager ship.

You used to save money on a back to back............like 20 years ago.......but not anymore........as mentioned your savings comes in transportation costs whether driving or flying.

What makes these nice to do on the Voyager is the A and B itineraries where in 14 days you only have one repeat port, Cozumel.

Was relatively disappointed with Rhapsody 1 1/2 years ago....however one giant saving grace was DEREK LEWIS and his antics in the Schooner Bar. I think he is still on board. Once you catch on to his Kamikazee Karaoke fun program, you will find yourself going back to that lounge every evening thereafter.
