Live from the Majesty's New Years Cruise-- really!

Yup--- we are actually onboard. They are offering us lodging for the night and food--- but get this-- making us pay for water, soda and booze. Can you believe it???

I have been trying hard to say that things happen and keep a positive attitude, but after all this making me pay for a bottle of water???? Ugh! I couldn't help but be snarky and ask if they will be charging the $10 service charge for the night!

We are going to the "meeting" to see if there are any more details. We might just leave tonight and try to drive down to Florida.

More to come!

That's a nice consolation prize in addition to the full refund and 50% off your next cruise.

Since you 'd be paying for your bottled water, soda and alcohol on the real cruise anyway, it's not unreasonable that you would have to pay for them during your complimentary stay.

Every gift horse has a mouth, but it's not always necessary to look all the way down it's throat.

Have a safe and happy new year.

it is not nice compensation. there is no air conditioning, there is no water, no showers, and only sporadic water for toilets.

50% is of the price that was paid, after discounts and such it is about $300 pp not much in my mind.

The often have complimentary drinks to make up for problems. A few sodas shouldn't be too much to ask

Knowing the problems with the ship, I can't imagine you wanting to stay aboard anyway, but to complain now is beyond me. I think it was nice of them to make the offer so you would at least not have to pay for a hotel room nor dinner. If it was me, I think I would take them up on the free food, look around the ship, but stay elsewhere.

I'm sure the people stuck in the airport in Denver would be happy to swap places with you.

Yes, Charleston is a very nice city. I was under the impression the cruise was cancelled. At least they put you up for the night so that you can either make other arrangements for your vacation. I'm sure the passengers stuck in Denver would be more than happy to trade places with you.

I would accept the offer NCL provided, and drive further south to Savannah, its another nice city, and continue southward to Orando, and at least see Walt Disney World. Then this vacation wouldn't be a total bummer.

Save half the $1200 and have a good time. Use the other half for your next NCL cruise. Make lemonade out of lemons.

I truly feel for all of the people who have been affected by this. Can't imagine if this happened to me, and how gracious I would be. But I would hope I would at least realize no one did this on purpose.

I also feel for the crew who are dealing with this situation. The purser's desk is probably not a fun place to be working right now.

Definetly take what NCL is offering and try to make the best of the situation. Charleson is a wonderful city! There are definetly worse places to be stuck.

As usual, you are not allowed to offer any criticism of NCL on this board. We have tried to deal nicely and keep a positive attitude. Heck, we asked when the lifeboat drill would be!

Charging us for water and soda is insane, given the circumstances. That is my larger issue. That is nickel and diming us in a tough situation.

I'm sorry, but that is not right. We are loyal NCL cruisers--- our 3rd this year. Water and Soda are not too much to ask

jentroubles: you can certainly offer criticism on these boards; other posters are also free to offer their opinions as well, which is just what I am seeing here (opinions of others).

I understand that you're upset (I would be as well) but things happen in life; we can either try to make the best of what we've got or wallow in our misery. Forget about the water, sodas, etc. If you don't want to stay on ship, then don't. There are hotels all over that will be happy to sell you a room.

I don't understand your comment about "the kicker is they are making us stay in our original rooms" - what difference would it make to you to be moved into another cabin since, as you stated, there is no AC and sporadic water for toilets? Will you feel any better about your situation in a suite??

As always, JMHO

I have to (partially) agree with jentroubles. Give them free water and soda - it has to be uncomfortable with no AC.....but free booze - no way! Free booze and heat - trouble in the making.

Now about the cabins - I can understand if jentroubles originally booked an inside cabin - again, no AC - yuck. If it was we, I'd have lunch on board and do what Don recommended - go see Savannah.

With limited water supply and no AC I am shocked they even let them stay on the ship. Pretty nice deal. Paying for soda would be the least of my concerns.

My question are the bars open. When things go south, time to party and enjoy the lemonade. :D NCL makes an interesting Martini with Lemonchello

There are about 25 or so that I've seen. Kicker is as of now they are making also stay in our original rooms

Not a bad decision on their part. First of all, they know where you are, and neither you nor they need to waste any additional time for re-registering. The only other alternative I would have considered if I were in their position would be to put everyone in one area. Doing that might be a downgrade for some who would prefer their assigned room, some would prefer a balcony since A/C wasn't working, but it just might open a can of worms they did not want to deal with. I'd also be concerned that someone really ticked off might take it out on the suite they were assigned to as an upgrade for the night.

If $300 is half of this week's cruise for one person, that is a $600 ticket. Times two probably in the stateroom, this cruise is costing them $1200. On top of this they will get half of this again, yes another $600 for both. NCL probably won't add much to this week's cruise, as the cruise is cancelled and the casino is closed, NCL only charging them for drinks.

If the $300 is credit if for both, Shoreguy's $900 comes into play. There are people who may have paid more for this cruise.

I would pass out if the two of us charged over $100 tonight, I don't drink booze before dinner. A free dinner plus snacks also helps the balance sheet. I would say the free dinner will most likely balance any drink charges.

Therefore, if she continues her vacation elsewhere, and spends half what she expected to spend on this vacation, say $600 for both, they will have a free cruise the next time. Half provided by NCL and the half the saved on this vacation.

Its the glass of water thing again, is it half full or half empty?

I would spend the night in a cheap Motel 6, drive on to Orlando, and spend a few nights there in a cheap Motel 6, after all their rooms are larger than NCL's. Both could spend $400 or more at Disney and $200 in cheap motel rooms and still have a wonderful vacation. At least this one wouldn't be a total bummer.

If Shoreguy's figures are correct, I would attempt to spend only $450 this week.

I too was supposed to be on this cruise with my girlfriend, celebrating our anniversary. Luckily, we are procrastonators and were planning to pack this morning since we live in Wilmington, NC -- only three hours away.

Fortunately, I read the press release in time last night to discontinue any further arrangements. But nothing is compensatory for the past six months we have spent excited and anxious for this cruise.

My one question is -- with the 50% off vouchers, will they be transferrable to other people? If we chose to cruise RCI or another cruise line, or not cruise at all before December '07, would we be able to sell these vouchers? My TA is checking on it on Tuesday, but I'm curious for a more immediate answer.

I am almost certain your TA will find out they are not transferable.

Everybody keeps talking like it's just a piece of cake to go get a hotel room or vacation over the New Year's holiday. It won't be.

The only money they will have will be their refund. Any future credits can't possibly be applied to a vacation now.

A very similar situation happened to us a couple of years ago. There were two weddings that were botched. One man paid over $20,000.00 for his whole family to be together over the holiday. Mechanical problems on ships can just ruin a vacation.

I certainly won't flame anyone who has complaints over this situation. It's so easy to just sit back and say, well, you're on vacation, just enjoy it somewhere else; or, you get $300 or so off a future cruise that has to be taken before the end of 2007, that's great, don't complain; you're getting a free meal, what's your problem? Until you go through something like this, you can't understand how cheated you feel. An adventure? I don't think so.

There are no balconys on the Majesty. You cannot even open a window/balcony door for air. I can imagine how hot it got on there. If it were just for an hour, that may be an adventure, but not for a whole night. Seniors, small children... I can see lots of problems with there being no air, water, lights.

I am supposed to be getting on the Majesty on the 13th. DH and I are fortunate enough that we are driving, so if there are still problems, we can just go somewhere else. But people who fly don't have that option.

This is definitely something I'll be getting all info about before hand.

Shay
