Kids Running Wild

Of course if some kid runs into you, knocking you down or spilling your wine, and doesn’t apologize, then you have every right to reprimand him and his parents if they seem complacent. However, if it is just kids being kids, then relax and smile.

guys, be fair. look at his whole quote. He's not saying that out of control kids have a right to ruin vacations.

The subject of kids on these boards never fails to hit the "hot" button. But ya know, there are good parents out there like snorkleman and myself that are mindful of these concerns and raise our children differently (at least that's what i have gleaned from his other posts).

Might be hard to believe, but even us parents do have issues w/ unruly kids. We aren't the "Champion of Children." But Snorkleman's point that you have to remember that certain, unoffensive things happen w/ some children, because they are children. That's all.

Okay. I think I'm dead now, right?:p

LOL...no not at all...it just seemed that he was denying that anything worse than kids just being kids and having fun ever happens., and that we were over reacting..LOL ( I could have mis interpreted)

There are hundreds of well behaved kids ont he ships but it is always the one family that makes the spectacle and everyone notices...

Thanks for not flamin' me at the stake;) . And i do agree, there are snotty, bratty, ill behaved kids in the world, with parents who don't provide any repurcussions for their actions (probably b/c they themselves don't even see anything wrong w/ the behavior  ).

Hey, I think my neighbor's kid up the block is one.:p

I was on the Miracle over Christmas week and I was expecting tons of kids everywhere, but hardly noticed any! At least not any bothering me. Well, the last day there were some young boys throwing footballs and jumping in the pool that got me all wet when I sat along the edge to talk to my sister and daughter who were in the pool. The sign did say "No Jumping" but I quickly realized it was stupid of me to sit by a pool and expect not to get wet....

You know what bothered me more than the kids? When you are riding in the elevator and it stops on the 7th floor to pick someone up who is just riding to the 6th floor..... Come on now!

How about the people, mainly kids, who try to push their way onto the full elevator instead of waiting for people to get off? It works much better to let people off, then board.

I know, if they don't have manners before vacation, they certainly won't magically have them during.

We were being fair. There is a BIG difference between kids being kids and kids being unruly, obnoxious, and downright dangerous.

And I always bring my kids with me on my vacations.

But ofcourse I mind my children.

I must add my experience ---

This December I was appalled when a little kid was climbing on the drink dispenser counter tops in just her underwear! Her mom stood by and watched the whole thing with another baby on her hip.

This gives us parents of young children a bad rep!

I'm so looking forward to my cruise that is likely to not have many children on board. I go out of my way to select a week to cruise that likely will not have many children on board.

I like children fine... seems like my living room always has 8 or 10 kids in it. But I really don't like children on ships... probably mostly due to their parents. Seems like parents think the ship's railings are their children's baby sitters...

I just wanted to add that I am 34 years old and I have always found other people's unruly kids to be annoying. Being a parent, the only thing that has changed is that now I can distinguish between a infant/toddler who is loud but happy and loud and unhappy. Before I had kids I only heard a child as being loud and I wondered why the parents didn't shut the kid up. I still feel that way if the kid is crying in public (annoying others) and the parent is doing nothing, but if they kid is giggling or playing with brother/sister and just being loud, that is not as big of a deal, so long as the parent attempts to shush the little one.

As for the comment about kids trying to get on elevators before the people get out, that annoys me too, but I usually see adults doing that which annoys me worse. You can always tell a child "just wait a second so we can get out before you get in" because it is possible that the child lives somewhere that they don't have a need to get onto public transportation or elevators and maybe they never encountered this situation. Adults that do this need to learn courtesy as well, but I don't go out of my way to reprimand an adult.

Of course kids spitting on your head deserves some type of prompt remedial action and I believe any victim of this has every right to address the matter with the child if there is no nearby parent who is doing so.

I hate it when kids (or adults) knock on cabins doors at 3am just to be funny.

So what do you think about Air Trans removing that family b/c their 3 year old child wouldn't get in her seat for take off and was throwing a fit? I'm thinking that the other passengers gave the crew a standing ovation! I know I would have.

Man, if those parents can't control the child at the age of 3, they have already lost the war! What in the world are they going to do when the child is 16 (besides visit them in juvie).

if these stories included severe and dire consequences that make the kids' eyes bug out, maybe they would calm down. Or... better yet, when they get older, they can embarrass the parents with the stories!:D

!

I think its the Parents that should have the severe consequences!

Maybe they should have to tie their children to their wrists for the rest of the cruise.

No, wait, then there would have kids in all the Bars and the Casino, oh wait, they already are.

On our last cruise, I felt so sorry for this one womans baby. Every night there she was at the show..8pm..and her little boy was about 15 months old. He was so tired his eyes kept rolling back in his head but everytime poor fella tried to drift off..the music would change and startle him. We had talked with his mother before the show started and she was nice enough but obviously more concerned about what she wanted than allowing this poor little guy to get his sleep. Of course he got cranky and cried..then she bounced him like a popcorn popper. If that had been me i would of thrown up for sure. She stayed in the theater with him crying..bouncing him like crazy rather than getting up and taking the little guy to his bed. My heart ached for him cause he was a darling baby. For the most part though we have been very lucky. There were quite a few kids when we sailed, surprisingly, since school was in session, but all were a joy to watch as they played and had a royal good time. I have though had the misfortune of meeting "other" kids at walmart...God save us all for when these kids get to be teenagers lol.
