judyf Posted August 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2004 Okay, I'm bored and thought it might be time to ask a few simple questions about my next cruise on the Legend. Are hairdryers in the cabins? Is there shampoo and soap in the shower? Is there a safe in the cabin? Is there 24 hour pizza? Any secret spots to hung out when you can't find a chair near the pool? I'm going to Limon, Belize and Colon. I know we tender in Belize but what about the other ports? Any tips about the Legend? What did you do in these ports? What should we not miss? Enough for now, thanks for listening (reading) to me!!!
Laurab23 Posted August 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2004 yes, there are hairdryers, shampoo and body gel in the bathrooms. We never had a problem finding loungers as long as we didn't want to be right next to the pool. We cruised out of NYC so I can't help you with the port questions. Don't miss the Golden Fleece, well worth the money.Enjoy the Legend. We loved her. -yes also to the safe and 24 hr pizza.
steveNcindy Posted August 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2004 Ditto to everything Laura said. Belize - if you like snorkelling look up Coral Breezes - www.coralbreezelimited.com (I think) for a great day. Very professional company to deal with. Costa Rica - we did nothing structured. Just got off the ship, strolled around the merchants area (BUY some coffee beans there as they are great) then took a taxi to Playa Bonita beach. Also heard from other people on the ship the White Water Rafting was incredible. Panama - We saw the canal but after that it was quite disappointing. Not sure what you like but if I was to do over, I would really look at what Carnival offers here. Once outside the pier shopping area, I did not really like Colon. However, we were there on a Sunday and the "Free Zone" was closed which is a huge duty free shopping area in Colon away from the pier. You only tender in Belize, pier in Costa Rica and Panama
dolfinmusic Posted August 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2004 24 hour pizza!!! YES!!! I can't wait to sail on the Legend for the pizza at 2am!!! :D I also used the shampoo that was in the shower! For the safe - I brought a food store card to open it - which you may know already. We did not have a hard time finding any chairs on the top deck that over looked the pool - there were also plenty of chair in the back. I also heard that the showers in the gym were awesome! Plan to check them out on the CTN. Have a great time!
BigDoug Posted August 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 19, 2004 The Legend is a great ship. You will love her. The layout is much better than the Inspiration and Fantasy. They had Karaoke in the lounge underneath the main lounge. The pizza was awesome. There are two pools in the center of the Lido deck, one with a retractable roof. We had a wonderful time last October and can't wait for March. We will see you onboard! :D
judyf Posted August 19, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted August 19, 2004 Wow, thanks for all the great info. I think I read there's an adult only pool. If there is where is it located. Glad to read that the chairs are easier to find then on the Fantasy class. Hows the entertainment?
dolfinmusic Posted August 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2004 I don't remember there being an adult pool??? Have I missed something! Entertainment - I guess that depends on what you like! I have only cruised once so far so I cannot compare to other cruises. Everything was ok - nothing that really WOW'ed me but it was good. We only saw the one show - that I enjoyed - maybe Take Two....I know this isn't much of a help - sorry!!! But I love talking about the Legend! M.S JAZO Posted August 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2004 I sailed on her last month and last year as well and I did not see a adult pool. There were 4 pools all for everyone. The only adult thing is a topless deck for adults. Thats it
hstrybuf Posted August 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2004 There is a very small pool and hot tub on the aft of the Lido deck that were designated as adult only when we sailed the Legend in April. They enforced it then but that could change from cruise to cruise.
judyf Posted August 20, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted August 20, 2004 All the posts on the Legend problems has me wondering. Please tell me more good things about the legend! BigDoug have you sailed the Legend before? What can you tell us first timers? dolfinmusic I will be looking for those reviews! I was going to book the CTN I was one of the first responses on the first post. When I talked my girlfriend into going with me the price doubled and I didn't want to pay that much. I still keep checking to see if the price comes down but I doubt it.
Snowball Posted August 20, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 20, 2004 Judy - final payments for the CTN are due on Monday, so some cabins might open up within the next week or so. Hopefully the prices will be lower too.
sarahm Posted August 20, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 20, 2004 I sailed the Legend in June and there was an adult only pool. It is located on the back of the ship on the Lido Deck. Whenever children tried to go in (even with their parents) security came right over and directed them to the other pools. Have fun. Let me know if you have any other questions about the Legend. :p Sarah

BigDoug Posted August 20, 2004 #14 Share Posted August 20, 2004 We were on the Legend last October, Baltimore to Bermuda. We really enjoyed the ship. The layout, I think, is probably the best of Carnival's fleet. The decor is more subdued than the Fantasy class, less neon. There is another thread going now that has some info about the lounges: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=70061 . I really liked the casino on the Legend. It seemed to be bigger than the other ship's casinos but it might have just been the way it is laid out. There is a bar and small lounge area in the casino that had music every night. The sports bar is also just off the casino. Having the Promenade on Deck 2 and Galleria (shopping) on Deck 3 is great. The central atrium is huge. We loved the food and thought that the buffet stations were much better than other ships. Having so many areas to get food really made the lines move faster. Let me know if you want any additional info.
staceyvols Posted August 20, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 20, 2004 For anyone who was on the Legend the last couple of weeks--how was the piano bar? This was so much fun on the Victory but completely dead on RC's Mariner. I'm hoping it's loud and hopping on Legend next week!
judyf Posted August 20, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted August 20, 2004 Thanks for all the info. I will keep my eye on those prices starting this weekend. It would be real nice to have a weekend on the Legend before my 8 night cruise in March. Bigdoug, thanks for the upbeat info after all the negative posts about the mishaps on the Legend it's nice to read things. I'm looking forward to sailing her. katgar Posted August 23, 2004 #17 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Judy, I see you didn't get an answer to one of your questions about the ports. Mom and I were on the same itinerary this past March. In Belize you tender in because of the reefs (about 15-30 min.). In both Costa Rica and Panama we were docked and one thing to note, in Costa Rica you'll be walking on the pier for almost the entire length of the ship, then there's the area with all the tour vehicles and co.'s, then stalls of local merchants and a small building with a gate to the city. In Panama we were on a private tour, but there was a semicircle not far from the side of the ship where all the buses picked people up. Rustynail Posted August 23, 2004 #18 Share Posted August 23, 2004 In colon we took a day trip for an excursion through part of the Pamama canal. It was very interesting and worth the full day. The ship is fantastic!!! so have fun.
cantw82cruise Posted August 23, 2004 #19 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Judy, I was on the Legend two years ago. We went to St. Maarten, Barbados, and Martinique. She's a great ship. I love the spirit class layout and I thought the Legend was the best of the three I have been on (decor wise). We are booked to go on the same itinerary as you in April of "05". Can't wait to be back on her. Have a great cruise...

staceyvols Posted August 24, 2004 #21 Share Posted August 24, 2004 Are there irons on every floor of the Legend? Or just on every other like on the Victory? THANKS!
jemingway Posted August 24, 2004 #22 Share Posted August 24, 2004 Wow, is the tender ride in Belize really 15-30 minutes.
judyf Posted August 24, 2004 Author #23 Share Posted August 24, 2004 Jemingway. Yes the tender is that long in Belize. But I can tell you it's one fast ride. They use speed boats in Belize. I believe you achor out about 5 miles I couldn't see land when we were there in April. I'm really looking forward the going to this port again.
