We will be using princess air from Vancouver, Canada to Ft Lauderdale, has anyone done this route through Princess air? what kind of experience did you have. Would appreciate any info. How many stops did you have to do. Thanks:)

With Princess Air, one person's experience may or may not have any sort of bearing on your own experience, even on the same cruise. Routings may be great, or they may be awful. You will just have to wait to get your flights and then decide if you want to pay for a deviation or not.

So far, I find them very inconvenient. We're ariving in San Juan the day before our cruise, so as not to be affected by adverse weather. As it's our 1st cruise and our 1st time in Puerto Rico, we were trying to reserve an early morning flight from Ottawa in order to enjoy our extra day as much as possible.

They couldn't tell us this far in advance what their flight options are. Add to this the Deviation Fee of $50 or $60 per person if you're not arriving and leaving on the day of, and you can see why we're booking our own flights for the Crown Princess cruise of February 16th 2008.

I'm not impressed.

I would seriously look into booking your own air first. You have lots of options from Vancouver.

Ottawa Tom: Why don't you try Ottawa-Mtl-San Juan route or even leaving out of Toronto direct to PR. We've booked our own air for our January cruise much cheaper than what Princess quoted for us and we arrive before noon on the day of departure which leaves us plenty of time to tour San Juan as the ship sails at 11 that night.

Our experience from Vancouver (to FLL not San Juani) has been the the following:

-Princess air was very expensive, about 70 percent more that we could do on our own from YVR. We also found that Princess pre cruise hotel rates were about 70 percent highter that we could do on our own.

-We found air from Seattle to be considerable cheaper (eg. $300CAN return, taxes incl) , sometimes half of the cost of leaving booking our own from YVR

-typically we would overnight in SEA and spend 2-3 nights as precruise. What we saved on air, and by doing it ourselves, paid for our pre-cruise-hotels and all

-our preference is always to book our own routes. So, when leaving from Canada in the winter, we would always select a carrier with a hub connection in a city that seldom has weather problems such as Continental thru Houston or AA through Dallas., or some others thru Salt Lake, etc. We avoided AC through Montreal, Toronto, United thru Chicago or Denver like the plague. We would not consider NW via Minneapolis.

-other passengers have told us that Princess gets you there OK but the return routing, if you have to pass thru hubs, is often very poor with long layovers etc. And once you get your routing from Princess, it will cost you a $50. deviation and an air fare upgrade to obtain a better route/connection. Princess spezializes in cruises, not airlines!

We are going on the CB out of Fort Lauderdale on September 30th. We booked Princess Air and are thrilled with the routing. Toronto to Miami. Direct flight on Air Canada at a cost that is less than if we had booked directly with the airline.
