nobody asked me but............

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jimmy Cannon was a sportswriter for the new york post in the 1940's-60's. every now and then he would write a column called "nobody asked me but". for example-i would not have a "bald"barber cut my hair.

here are some of my"nobody asked me but" for cruising.

please feel free to add and or comment. i have thick skin.

1-i do not care who the cruise director is

2-i do not care who the captain of the ship is

3-late seating is too late and early seating is too early

4-i do not like "baked alaska"

5-there should be escalators on ships

6-why do people eat the scrambled prepared eggs at the buffet instead of the ready to order eggs.

7-going to your dinning room table the 1st night is like going on a "blind date"

8-the two most important people on the ship will be your waiter and cabin steward.

9-safes that require a credit card are ridiculous

10-in general the "brits" are more formal dressers than americans

11-i love to read comments written by the fashion police, especially the one where they told a cruiser that sneakers are not allowed on embarkation night

12-the escargot appetizer is great

13-desserts look better than they taste

14-european cruises are more exciting than caribbean ones

15-we always eat breakfast and lunch in the buffet area

16-my wife does not gain any weight on cruises

17-a sad sight is when you see the luggage lined up in the hall the night before disembarkation

18-i really enjoy talking to the 'brits" regarding the "blitz"

19-the over-the-door-shoe-bag is a wonderful thing to bring

20-the budget for lightbulbs in inside cabins must be very high

21-the first thing we do on embarkation day is to go to the library then the buffet

22-it took 3 cruises to find out who the "friends of bill w" were

23-where can i get an "egg cream" on the ship

24-why is ice coffee not as popular as ice tea

25-why do kilts take the place of a tuxedo and not a pair of short pants

26-why do the women, not the men, always select the seating in the theater

27-the best entertainment, other then a "big"production show was "barty brown" on princess

28-the best buffet luncheon was on the carnival spirt"s panama canal cruise

29-i never asked anyone what they paid for their cruise

30-the funniest line i heard on a cruise was on a day where the ship was rocking and rolling, someone yelled out "will the honeymoon couples cut it out"

my wife and i were on about 35 cruises and never had a bad cruise.

please add, comment or state anything regarding the above.

happy cruising

That was fun! Very interesting points, most of which I would agree with!

#22) If it wasn't for these boards, I still wouldn't know who the "friends of bill w" were.

#16) I'm jealous that your wife doesn't gain weight on a cruise! I wish I could do that!

#30) ROTFLMAO!! that was great!!

What is an egg cream??????? Doesnt sound very appetizing
Think of it as an Ice Cream soda without the Ice cream

It is simply seltzer, chocolate syrup (Foxes U-Bet), and milk. Can't go to a diner and not have one!

(notice there are no eggs nor cream involved!)

The 'Friends of Bill' meetings are Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. I asked on our last cruise. I had always wondered who Bill was and how he always had friends on cruises I took. I think its wonderful that they make space available for the meetings.

#7 Going to the dining room is like a blind date!

LOL that was what my DD said on our "girls only" CTN. I am 56 she is 32 and they seated us with two young (21 and 23) single guys. She said it was like a "blind date gone bad". Felt like ti was traveling with my kids. No doubt they were disappointed to be seated with two older married women too!

If you could order an egg cream on the ship our Sail and Sign bill would be $0, because my Bronx-born DH would rather have one of those than scotch!

4-i do not like "baked alaska"burtshell

Thank goodness....I though I was the only person on the ship that hated "baked Alaska". Why someone thinks a plate full of whipped cream, with a sliver of cake and ice cream is a dessert, I don't know! :o

Now I know why the trip on the Costa Atlantica was so rough, must have been alot of lovers.... ;)

Ditto! I couldn't get the waiter to understand I DON"T WANT IT. He just keep stay, you no like, with a blank expression.

Has anyone had a lime rickey recently? Do they still make them back in NY?

that brings back memories.

there was a candy store near a bus stop and train that had in the summertime an open window with about 10 glasses waiting for customers to order lime rickys. they would then fill it with seltzer.

everytime i cut open a lime i think of that

The really funny thing is a good bit of cruiser's should really meet Bill W since so many spend so much on Booze for 1 week :D I have been a friend of Bill's cousin since 1994:eek: (NA)

Hilarious!!! :) :D ;) thanks for the good laugh.

The one about the light bulbs and inside rooms had me chuckling---it is so true! (we had 2 rooms last cruise, 1 inside & 1 ocean view, so we know about this:D )

And the luggage in the halls is indeed the saddest site of the entire vacation. :(
