We're booked on this tour with NativeWay for our cruise on Liberty of the Seas starting November 3rd. One thing I have not seen answered is the issue of towels.

I know that the ship has them, but do you take them with you or does the company provide them on the ship? I would think you need to wipe off when you get out of the water and head to the beach. Should I pack a couple of my own beach towels to take with us?

Also, DS#2 is 5 and has a bathing suit w/ a built in coast guard approved flotation top (1 piece like a wrestling style suit). Will he be okay wearing this on the tour?

I know DH and I are $60 each, but I can't remember my cost for the kids. Anyone know offhand? Also, what did they have on the lunch menu that might appeal to the younger set?

Thanks for the info. Great to see so many fabulous reviews.

I always take the towels from the ship on my excursions. I know some people worry about losing them, so they bring towels from home, but I'm carrying a camera, and other stuff to keep up with anyway - so what's one more thing?

We are going on Navigator of the Seas and will be in GC on 11/27. Anyone been on Nativeway's Stingray and Island tour? I've been reading a lot of good reviews on the Rays, Reef and Rum Point tour. I am wondering if Stingray and Island tour is just as good? Which one is better?

Hi Pugmommy - I don't mean to hijack this thread but I want to ask what it is about your pugs you love so much? I'm not being sarcastic either - very sincere here. My son has been drawn to pugs for about the last year and has been hounding me to get one. We already have a dog and a cat and I'm a firm believer is only adopting animals from shelters - so I would never purchase a pug from a breeder. But if I happened to find one at a shelter....well my son just might be in luck :) So what is the attraction?

Did you still want an answer to your pug ????'s If so I will reply as a Pug Fan...:D

  • 3 weeks later...

you've sold me!!

i'm waiting for our email confirmation:D hope i didn't procrastinate too long.

just wondering, what do you do with your "stuff" ie money, ids when your entire family is snorkeling? we've had no luck with the waterproof things you wear around the neck...always seem to leak:confused: . Is it safe to stow it in a gear bag & leave onboard?

also, is there:

*a bathroom,

*a shower,

*shade?

We always just stick our valuables in the bottom of our bag and leave it on the boat. Rum Point Beach has bathrooms, showers, and shade. The boat has shade.

:D YES! it was definately worth every penny. I just did this tour on 8/2 (Carnival Liberty 7/29 sailing) with my husband and 13 and 19 yr old sons. The guides were great, made sure everyone on the boat got a chance to hold the stingray and take pictures. I think we had around 20-25 people in our boat. Rasta Ron (that's what we called him, big guy w/ long dreadlocks) was waiting at the pier. We were bused over to a smaller marina where the boat was located. We went to see the rays first and had a great experience. They had 3 guys on board helping out. Then we went snorkling at a coral reef about 10 minutes away. They gave us menus to select lunch at Rum Point Beach so it was waiting when we arrived. THe selection was great. I had the catch of the day. Two large pieces of mahi-mahi and rice and beans w/ corn on the cob. IT was delicious. Rum Point was just gorgeous. It had plenty of lounge chairs with shade if you wanted. Not too crowded either. The only negative was that we had to leave!!!

I would highly recommend the tour. I felt it was a good value especially when you consider the prices in the Caymans. We were back to the port in plenty of time. Don't hesitiate to try them!

Let me know if you want any other info. Have a great time no matter what you decide to do! :)

How do you get back on the small boat? Do they have steps? I'm just asking because we went on a small boat one time and since I was unable to pull myself over the side of the boat the driver raked my entire frontside scraping me as he pulled me up in front of everyone. I swore I'ld never do that again.

The two different boats I've been on with Nativeways both had ladders at the back for you to climb back on the boat.

A couple of weird questions - my son really likes boats but hates being in the water. How do you get from the boat to Rum Point? Is it tied up at a dock? Also, I would assume it isn't a problem for him to hang out in the boat while other people snorkel?

yes - it ties up to a very long dock at Rum Point.

Many people stayed on the boat while others snorkeled on our trip. I am a horrible swimmer, but they gave me a life vest so that I could do a little snorkeling with my family. (I didn't stay out long!)

Just returned from our cruise on Saturday, and I must say, like others, this tour was the highlight of our cruise. Everything about it was wonderful, we don't have any complaints.

They met us right off the pier, and escorted us to the boat docks. They were on time, the bus was very clean and they had left it running so that it would be nice and cool for our ride. Our ship's captain was Chris, and Andrew and George were also on board. We ended up only having eleven people on the tour total, so that was a huge plus. We passed many boats that were just overloaded with passengers...I would say that is one of Nativeway's biggest advantages...they will only carry 25 people at a time. Anyway, the boat was excellent, and they had water and fruit punch on board to enjoy. The crew was great....very patient and interested in making sure we all had a great time. All of the snorkeling equipment was in great shape, and they helped us get it on right, helped us into and out of the water, etc. At Stingray City, Andrew was fantastic about getting the sting rays in a position we felt comfortable with etc. George took lots of great photos and helped us with snorkel gear, overcoming fear, etc.

At Rum Point, we had a great lunch - the fish and chips were out of this world!

I would most definitely recommend them!

1) We left all of our belongings on the boat and I felt completely safe doing so. At any of the stops you were able to come and go off the boat as you pleased at any time, including when the ship was at the pier at Rum Point.

2) I'm assuming that each boat is different, but our boat had shade, and a bathroom. No shower but they did have a hose attachment with fresh water so that as you got on the boat after feeding the stingrays, they would kind of hose you off.

Our boat had a ladder in the back that made it very easy to get back in the boat. Definitely no climbing over the side :p
