Hi Karen,:) did you mean Ina Garten? The Barefoot Contessa?

I love her gardens.....they always look so pretty!

Lois, you're absolutely correct! It is Ina Garten...and her gardens are amazing. I have her cookbooks also.

I like Ina but SL has to go, she scares me...and young children ;)

Have you guys read Anthony Bourdain's take on Sandra Lee? Hilarious!!!

http://www.slashfood.com/2007/02/10/anthony-bourdain-has-some-issues-with-the-food-network/

Anthony is wonderful. What a fun, tour director! Wouldn't you love to be on his tours?

I didn't know who she was either until I looked her up and spotted some of her recipes. It's no wonder she has no neck.

Bacon-Wrapped Deep-Fried Mac n Cheese

Velveeta Fudge

Bacon, Doughnut, Egg Burger

I'm sure there's some relatively-healthy stuff in here somewhere, but otherwise she sounds like a female Homer Simpson, y'all.

She's definately not a "Low Cal" lover of food...but she's really entertaining. Hmmmm...Velveeta Fudge. I have to think about that one.

OMG ~ Try the Velveeta Fudge if you like Fudge. When I watched her make it a couple years ago, I though "Gross". It is wonderful and soooooo smooth, but very rich(a small piece is all you need). Don't tell people it has Velveeta in it until they try it though, some people just arent adventurous and wont try it.

Oh I wish I could go on that cruise ... I am also a Paula fan, I have all of her books, shows on DVD ect... Now I realize her cooking is not for everyone but I have to admit.. I cater and every time I introduce one of her dishes into our menu we get rave reviews... for me, she is just very real and very much herself.. and I am SURE she is a hoot to be around. I wold love the opportunity to meet her someday.. maybe next year :(

Ina is also a favorite, BF and I time how long it takes in each episode for her to mention Jeffrey ;), I love glimpses of her gardens and love that show too.. maybe the two of them should team up for a cruise next year .. or maybe a Food Network cruise with a few more favorites.. count me in for that one

That women is seriously annoying and you're exactly right about her recipes. Both her and Sandra Lee should be locked away and taken off the food network. Thank God the Canadian Food Network doesn't carry either of them.

You live your life the way you want to and I'll live mine my way. I happen to like Paula Dean's style of cooking and know you can't eat what she cooks 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. What's your problem with her? Her cooking is unhealthy? So what! You are not going to live forever. You only live once and you should enjoy it while you can. Besides a long life is mostly hereditary anyway!

Where was I knocking the fact that you liked her? watch what you want, eat what you want, I'll do the same. I find her annoying, crass and extremely overweight to be cooking the way she does, but obviously the American public still enjoys her style or she wouldn't still be on TV. That pretty much sums up my problem with her. Don't take it so personally that you enjoy watching her "cook".

OK, OK!! I'll try it! I think it was the name that put me off...my DH use to tell a story how his Mother made lasagna with Velveeta, and that swore me off Velveeta for a long time...but I'll try this one. Thanks for the tip!

I enjoy watching her. I've read her book which takes you through how she came to be where she is today.

Where I wouldn't be able to serve her recipes several times a month I have enjoyed her crepe recipe and this evening I made her Crab and Shrimp Casserole which was very rich. Again its all a matter of moderation for me.

I was a fan of Anthony until I read how he downed Sandra Lee like that. No, I'm not a fan of her cooking, but I saw her bio on T.V. and she is really an exceptional person. She and her siblings were abandoned by their drug addict mother and Sandra, being the oldest, literally raised her brothers and sisters while still a child herself. She was forced to buy food on nearly nothing and had to learn to cook to feed them. She really pulled herself and her family up out of nothing and she continues to support her sibliings to this day. Bourdain should be ashamed!

I also "Love" Paula, she is very funny and a heck of a cook. No you cannot eat most of her recipes everyday because you would die of a heartattack but there are alot of her dishes that don't contain butter, mayo and cheese all at the same time! I grew up in the south, most of my friends are from the south,we do sometimes get carried away with the use of ya'll especially when we are excited,it's very common for people to use it a lot and Paula is a very colorful character. Last evening we had friends for dinner, everything I made came from one Paula's books and everyone loved it all. I don't think she'll be leaving the food network anytime soon as she is a huge moneymaker for them. I do wish she would stop licking her fingers.

Sondra Lee does have a very wonderful personal story and Anthony should be kinder. I love to cook and eat! I use a lot of food network recipes....A lot of them do make it look easier on TV though,I guess it is when you have a staff:p

Hi, great post:) I have lived in the south since 1965 and you

are correct..."Ya'll" is just a part of the lifestyle. Don't folks

up north say "You's Guys"......?

At least Ya'll is a contraction of You all.;)

Personally I don't think Paula is a fake at all...that is who she is

and you know, she went through a lot of stuff before she

"made it". Just like everything else on the tube, if a person doesn't

care for her, they can change the channel:).

My sister made one of Paula's recipies a couple of weeks

ago....the OOEY GOOEY BUTTER CAKE:D and she put

blueberries in there...gotta have that fruit...LOL....the cake

was sooooooooo good:D

PS, if you saw the show when she and Michael went to Europe

you could see they were like fish out of water but it looked like

they had a wonderful time. Trying new things, new foods, etc....

She definitely stepped outside of the box!

SHHHHHH! Don't tell anyone at X or she may get thrown off the ship.......not only does she smoke, but she wears JEANS! God help us, y'all are gonna die when she smokes in her suite and the casino! It will be hoot, cause she will tell those 'snooty' folks in very nice Southern terms what they do with their JEANS and SMOKING policy!

Wish I were going too! I love her! Yes, I am from Georgia and have been to 'see' her many times .

I don't know if she made if or not, but at the begining of her last Paula's Party Season she said that her and Michael were trying to quit smoking.

Miss Lois, I just love your posts, you always seem to be informed and well thought out, unlike myself who sometimes lets their emotion get in the way.

I would love to cruise with Paula,I think she would definitely be the life of the party.

I also would make anything with "OOEY GOOEY" in the title!

Sunday night we made... Fried Chicken,Macaroni and cheese,Wild rice salad,Rene's Cole slaw and cornbread. Soaked Vanilla cake for desert. Paula would have loved it all. Her books are very easy follow.

The one thing I like on the food network is that the shows are so very diverse. Some I like very much and some, not so much. I do cook more like Paula ( it's familiar and easy) but I do like Booby Flay and Ina... I think a cruise with a few of the food network personalities on board would be fantastic, each one could have a night in the specialty restaurant where they would do the evenings menu. I know I'd pay a nice "surcharge "to attend, and what fun the interaction would be during dinner.:D I'm sure the cruise would be a fortune though.

In 2005 when we were on the Millie,Ernest Bordenine (sp) was a guest giving lecture in the theater about his movie making days, It was wonderful,he and his wife Tova were so friendly and personable...I went to every lecture. I think the cooking thing would be fun on board.

Just have to chime in - I would love to be going on this cruise and meet "Miss Paula!" I'm from TN and just love her. No, I can't eat like that all the time or even most of the time. Just like I couldn't eat fat ladened French food or any number of other calorie filled cuisines. But, some of her things are wonderful treats and remind me of my childhood.

If you haven't already, try her "Not yo mama's" banana pudding. It's wonderful! I love the regular stuff, but this is a nice twist - sinful, but great.

As a side note, down here we don't say ya'll referring to one individual. This is something that Hollywood/NY producers seem to not get and I notice it in those faking accents all the time. Paula may be heavy on the ya'lls from time to time, but she uses it "correctly" making me think she is the genuine article.

She's the real deal alright...The Food Network had a biography program on her, and her life story is very interesting. She's quite the business woman, creating a business due to her life circumstances. I admire her ability to create a "Brand" out of a small sandwich business.

I'm not a big lover of her food style, but you have to respect how she became a big business mogul.
