That one Carnival Passenger everybody knows

We always get that "Complainer Family". Nothing is right, everything is someone else's fault, and they always say "You would think for all the money we paid they would ......" You can just tell sometimes the people who are destined for misery. Even in the worst situation if you project positive energy you will always find a way to make the best out of a bad situation.:)

Unfortunately we havent been as lucky as PunkinsDad with his "Nakid Girl" but one can hope. Had to read the little person line twice as I had a totally different visual on my first pass. :D

I was on the Miracle last september and one female (i would say in her 40s) was always on the lido deck with the same short shorts and top on for the whole cruise. I never saw her anywhere else. Whenever I went to the Lido deck (at all different times) she was always there. Maybe her luggage didn't make it on the ship.

My unforgettable ship's character was on a cruise, our second, back in 1992 aboard the "Commador Enchanted Isle" on a trip through the Panama Canal.

Just in front of us in the line to Board Ship was an older couple (Mid-70's). He was dark complected and wore a gastly hair piece and she was very tanned, very rinkled skin and huge bright red lips and false eye lashes about an inch long.

As the cruise progressed down the Mexican Pacific Coast, two things became obvious to all on board.

1. He did not like the sunshine and prefered to play cards all day and night with 3 of his buddies.

2. She did love sunshine and owned only one very colorful BIKINI bathing suit which she wore all day long on the deck by the pool. This in itself would probably never have been noticed had she lay on a Chaise all day. However, she paced.

Actually, she paced all day long up and down the entire pool deck, first one side then the other. And as she paced she tried to make conversation with each and every male on deck no matter their age. (Most times very unsuccessfully)

Picture this a very thin, very tanned, very rinkled mid 70"s woman in a bright colored Bikini trying to hit on every man on board and getting absolutly no where. The more she paced the more frustrated she got.

Finally last night out it was anounced that we would have a passenger talent show in the lounge that evening and that "The Pacer" as everyone called her behind her back (no one acutally talked too her, including her hubby) was going to do a dance for us all as she was a retired Exotic Dancer.

My wife and I got to the lounge late and had to sit at the bar at the back of the room. The Bartender was saving the two seats next to us and just before the show started, the Captain and his Wife came and sat down in those seats.

"The Pacer" was the last act to appear and in she comes in this 1920's show outfit complete with long frilly, very worn, Boa which was draped around her shoulders and around her.

After a moment with the Band, they began to play a song which many of us have heard at strip shows and she began to do just that. As she danced, she moved about the floor with absolutly NO grace and poise and every time she would move a loud laughter would erupt in the room.

Once I turned and the Captain was wiping the tears from his eyes as he was laughing so hard.

Thank goodness her act was stopped before she got everything off.

This was my most unforgettable Person on a cruise.

For our last cruise, it was this lady that we first spotted at dinner. She was always, and I mean ALWAYS dressed Very, Very flashy-- and this included a tiara at dinner every night! We even saw her on an excursion and she was wearing what looked like every piece of jewlery she owned and a sequined headband that she wore across her forhead instead of in her hair (it reminded me of the head-piece that I had to wear when I was a majorette in high school). I wish that I had taken a picture of her, but we called her the jewlery lady. It became a game at dinner everynight. She and her husband always arrived late an they were seated at the table next to us-- the 6 of us (my boyfriend and two other couples we were seated with) would try to guess what outrageous color she would be in that night. TOO FUNNY!:p

I was the 'memorable' cruiser... On one cruise I did the talent show, I did an Elvis impersonation, jumpsuit, side burns, rings and all! People wanted to take pix with me, etc.. I had the Memphis Mafia (my friends) around me while I left my room and entered the showroom, it's the closest I'll ever get to being a celebrity, it was GREAT!! And so many free drinks too! The rest of the week, I was known as Elvis! Ahh, if only I was single at the time, lol!

On another cruise, they had a lip synch contest by the pool one night. They gave you a banana (to use as the mic.), guess what song we all had to 'sing' to? An Elvis song! They chose men from different age groups, up to 70 years old. I thought the 70 year old would win, but the crowd voted for me! Again, I was known as Elvis for the rest of the week!

It's nice to be a King for a week (or two!)!

Last October on the Liberty, our first port was Key West. We went out looking for "characters" on a photo safari. (it's one of the things my kids and I do every time we visit Key West ... best "crazy person" photo wins a prize) Our "winner" this time was an older gentleman with a handlebar mustache who was dressed in a very loud tropical shirt with cargo shorts, black socks up over his knees, sandals, and a cowboy hat with a peacock feather in it. He also had on some strange green sunglasses and, of course, was holding a Corona in each hand.

The next night, on board ship, there was a band playing in the atrium. Lo and behold, there was our "key wester" dancing the tango with an older woman, dressed to the nines. He was much more tastefully dressed, but still had the cowboy hat on! After that, we saw him everywhere ... always with the hat! He and his partner were actually very good dancers and it was quite entertaining to watch them. I'm guessing they may have been in their late 70's ... I can only hope my dh and I still remember how to have that much fun and are in good enough shape to do it when we get to be that age!:D

On a stranger (and sadder) note, we also saw an older (Mexican?) woman on the last sea day who's kids convinced her to go down the water slide. We saw her because we heard what we could have sworn were sirens ... but we were at sea! Following the noise, we watched her splash down out of the slide ... I think she was genuinely panicked. Her family was laughing so hard at this that they could barely stand up. Once she stopped shaking she lit into them with a barrage of words that would probably have made me blush if I could have understood any of them.

There was a guy on our cruise last month on Valor.. On the first night he was picked to go up on stage and when they ask who you are, who you are sailing with, etc.. he said that he wasnt married but was engaged.. they asked who he was sailing with and he said his mom.. he left his fiancee at home to watch the kids and he and his mom went on a cruise.. they asked where she was in the audience and he said that she was asleep in the cabin..

We saw him ALL over the ship by himself the entire cruise.. eating by himself, at each night show by himself, at the bar by himself, at the dance club each night by himself... He was deemed "mommas boy" by me and my husband :D..

One day while in port he was walking by us and was talking to us til we got on the ship.. he flirted with my niece continually as she was with us at the dance club.. he actually flirted with numerous girls in the dance club (I thought he was engaged.. ahem)... when we looked at our port pictures each day we made it a point to look for his and we found it and each time he was pictured by himself.. hmm.. we thought this was strange..

We NEVER saw him with his mother the entire trip and we saw him every day.. Me and my husband joked that he was making it up and he was really there by himself.. ha ha

Well on disembarking day we took a shuttle thru Carnival back to the airport.. We had just gotten on the bus and were sitting down.. this woman gets on the bus.. griping outloud to herself.. me and my husband were just looking at each other.. Than "mommas boy" gets on the bus.. Guess where he sat?? Yep... with the older woman.. they were griping at each other the entire way to the airport.. It appears he wasnt traveling alone and that WAS his mother..

I looked at my husband and said "now I can see why he left her in the cabin the whole trip"..

I do believe there is a fellow cruiser that stands out each cruise for us..

We cruised on Grand Princess last year.. on embarkation day when we were headed to our cabin we saw an elderly gentleman wearing shorts and a tropical shirt that looked just like Santa! His wife was with him and she looked just like Mrs Claus.. I swear they looked just like them in summer clothes.. He even had the beard and mustache.. hair was white.. everything!!

On our first sea day me and my husband were sitting out on the Lido Deck getting a bite to eat and lo and behold guess who comes out??

Santa and Mrs Claus and he was dressed in a Santa outfit to the T.. boots and all.. He came out and sat on the Lido deck with his wife.. she wasnt dressed up but he sure was..

Picture it, a warm summer morning sailing off the coast of the Mexican Riveria. Sipping coffee on the crowded Lido deck, trying to read while waiting for the family to return from the buffet with their plates. My son Nathan, who is 16, comes back from the buffet and sets his plate piled high with food down on the table. "I think I lost my appetite" he says and adds " "Watch that bald man coming behind me with the white hair," he says nodding his head to an elderly man walking behind him. I could see the people parting and looks of shock on mother's faces and wide grins on others as he passed.

The man who was in his 70's or so, thin and tall was coming to Lido for a swim. He looked like Jack Albertson from Willy Wonka. As he passed I noticed his bathing attire, some VERY stretched out jockey shorts that must have been decades old and left precious little really covered. He passed me and being seated, well it left my eyes with no where to go BUT there. *coughs*

I could see the wait staff and everyone else on the deck watch as he got into the pool as if nothing at all was "unusual". Children stared and pointed, people laughed and the old guy seemed totally oblivious. Me being a nurse, I watched thinking maybe he was a bit senile and was wandering without family to help him, but he seemed purposeful enough. He was going swimming! I NEVER got in that pool again....

From that day on we called him Jockey Man. We saw him all over and the old fellow seemed unaware of his new notoriety. Thankfully he was not a frequent sunbather.

  • 1 month later...

That last story reminded me of our first cruise in 1987 aboard the Festivale. We were at our muster station in the disco for the drill and in walks this 300 lb. man who was totally inebriated. He was only wearing his life-jacket and his tightie-whities.

On the , Victory about six years ago, we met a couple at the Atrium bar before we headed off to dinner. The person I thought was a woman was actually a man dressed in cheap women's clothing, shoes, and sporting make-up that you would probably see in a B movie worn by a crazy woman. The only times we ever saw this couple was right before dinner seated at the bar.

DH and I just got back from the Imagination 5-dayer today. :) Here is a synopsis of our most memorable characters:

1) We kept running into this cute woman who was in a foot cast and hobbling around like a champ on a crutch. She and her husband were rocking their Rock-Star platinum S&S cards. After the third sighting, I told her she was a trooper. The fourth sighting, we finally met with me mentioning Cruise Critics. Her response? "I'm POPSEC!" Ray, her husband, did point out their Rock-Star platinum status, and I told him I had already noticed and was slightly green with envy. They were on a back-to-back, and we spent some time hanging out with them. GREAT people, and terrific fun! Kept running into them in the Casino and on the Lido. I think everyone knew Popsec, since she was practically sprinting everywhere on that crutch! Love ya, girl! And slap Ray occasionally for us- he needs it!

2) Big Momma. They played the movie onboard- little did we know we'd see her every night. Big Momma LOVED the hot tub, and made use of it every night. She'd arrive in her robe, and reveal her bright yellow swimsuit every night, and proceed to soak for hours. Girl was tipping 400 pounds, but was had no shame!

3) The Eaters. We had a group of REALLY big people next to us in the Dining Room. One night, as we were leaving, I commented to my hubby how sad it was that we were through with dessert and they were just now getting their entree. DH said, "Uh, baby, they are on their thirds. You missed the three appetizers they also had as starters...." The Eaters never missed a meal, and I was very happy they were able to get their moneys worth from their cruise. They were very nice, and I was glad to see they enjoyed the food.

4) Smack-Talking Tween- We got on an elevator with a man and his 10-year old. He pushed the wrong button, and she sighed, saying, "My dad is sooo stupid. He never does anything right. He's the dumbest person in the world..." The dad just smiled and shrugged. I said, "Um, it's not cool to talk smack about your dad." We saw her EVERYWHERE after that.

Every cruise always has memorable people. :) Popsec does win this cruise for "normal" memorable person.

On our last cruise alone, we had: Richard Simmons (He was doing his Cruise to lose thing), a very good Elvis impersonator, a very, very good Abe Lincoln impersonator (6'6", rail thin, funny beard, top hat), another guy who was about 60 yrs old, also very tall and walked around all cruise in an American flag Speedo, and another guy who we affectionately tagged, "Bra Pocket" We saw this guy on more than one occasion with a bra hanging out of the back pocket of his jeans. I'm still scratching my head about that one.

Last November on the Miracle we had three.

First was the woman with a two piece suit on, boobs always hanging out, and then the bad part was the bottom that when the wind blew up it was a thong! And the worst was that she had cottage cheese all over and my poor kids had to see that. She really thought she was something.

Next is the guy that was drunk the whole time and wore the same blue jean shorts and navy sleeveless shirt with black socks and slip on shoes. I swear he was drunk from morning till the next morning.

Then there was the really skinny older man with the zebra speedo and he would wear a shirt just long enough to make it look like he didn't have anything on the bottom. Plus he was all leathery.

Opps, I forgot one. We were in the show room and we were in the balcony, below us was a girl- maybe 21 and a much older guy, I would say 50. While they were playing music before the show started she was dancing in her seat and trying to get the guy to join her, I wish that I would of had a video cam. I am sure he was pretty embarrased!

Hey Fred -

After reading all your post on the Valor, I feel like I know you. Anyway - want to make sure you are ready to document all your findings on the Freedom. We'll be on it this November.

Sorry to hijack!

Lisa

Hey! Did you see the roll call for your cruise?

To answer the OP's question.. Yes, we had the cutest elderly couple who were celebrating their umpteenth aniversary on one our cruises. It turns out they were from our hometown...LOL

Don't remember which cruise... but there was a totally sweet older couple, by the 2nd day everyone had heard their story... they had been high school sweethearts, he went off to war and married someone from overseas. Meanwhile, she married someone else, too. His wife died, her husband died, they met again at their 50Th high school reunion - they were on their honeymoon :D

There was one woman who we kept seeing the whole 10 day cruise, always a little tipsy. She did the pool games, was always on stage for magic, etc. shows when someone was needed. She just seemed to be everywhere having a great time. On the last day returning on a tender from Princess Cay, she sat across from me and we started talking, she was a very funny person. That night I was sitting in a club waiting for a show, DH had stopped at the restroom, she came and asked if she could sit with me, thought it was because she remembered me. Went on about how her husband was in the cabin packing and she wanted to enjoy her last night, who would want to pack. I asked her about something we talked about a few hours earlier, her reply was, "Do I know you?". Just hope she remembered her cruise.
