cruisepal48 Posted May 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I'm going to try and pack using 1 suitcase for DH and 1 for me and one garment bag for both of us. We're going on the Westerdam Alaska June 1st:D My question is there is 2 formal nights. What do most of you bring for those. 1 or 2 outfits? I do have 2 cocktail dresses but may only bring the black dress. what do you all do?? Thanks PS I'm getting ready and I can't wait. I've washed and ironed everything, so now what to take:confused:
Mary Ellen Posted May 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2008 Me? For 2 formal nights I take 2 outfits, but then again, mine are chiffon pants sets. Same pants, but the tops differ. Also, being chiffon they pack wonderfully - I can actually wad them up and they look great after being packed for days. They also take up VERY little space. sail7seas Posted May 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I bring a different dress/outfit for each formal night. Just my preference to do so. If we are on a ten day cruise, I bring three dresses/outfits. If we do back-to-back, seven day cruises, I bring four.
RevNeal Posted May 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2008 Mother tells me that for just 2 formal nights her basic strategy is to bring a simple black skirt with two very different tops ... one black with sparkles of some kind and one a different color, but more plane. She will accessorize the blouses so as to accentuate their differences. All my memory tells me is that I thougth they were different dresses. :) For myself ... I'll bring a Tuxedo, Tux Shirt, bow tie and cummerbund. No need for anything else for just 2 days (and the Tux doesn't take any more room than would a regular suit). Krazy Kruizers Posted May 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2008 Just got off the Westerdam last Sunday - Alaska. There were 2 formal nights. The majority of the people did not dress for the formal nights. Just take your black dress and you will be fine. Enjoy your cruise.
RuthC Posted May 25, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 25, 2008 I've been bringing one black evening skirt and up to four sequined tops (usually three). Then I just repeat for as long as the cruise lasts. For a cruise with only two formal nights I would just bring two of the tops.
JimVrhovac Posted May 25, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2008 An individual thing. We like to get dressed up so we do. I always have the last word as to what I will wear on formal nights. "YES DEAR" Ruth & Jim

KK, I was sorry to read of your overall experience on the Westerdam and now to read this - it is very disappointing:(. We are on the Westerdam June 1st and are packing now. I am taking one long dress and one cocktail dress for the formal nights and DH is packing his tux. It looks like formal nights will soon be a thing of the past on HAL, which is sad IMO. JimVrhovac Posted May 25, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 25, 2008 http://www.buyhappyfeet.com/ This link will get you to buy happy feet. They have a great selection of slippers. One thing nice about them is they have a 3/4" foam soal on them so they are not hard on the feet. Shipping is free with 3 pair..... Have a great shopping day.....
