Has anyone ever managed to get a stateroom upgrade after boarding?

If so how did you go about getting it?

We are in a balcony stateroom on Sea Princess out of Montego Bay 8th November.

Over the years I have never even managed to get an upgrade on a flight ! ! :)

Oops.

Sorry, I misread OP's post.

We did get upgraded once at the dock upon check-in, but that is not the same thing either.

We also got upgraded once on HAL midvoyage, but that was after our cabin and several others flooded when water entered the hull via the hawsepipe (anchor chainway) during an Atlantic storm.

Since the higher category staterooms normally sell out well in advance the chances of this are slim to zero. Princess also does complimentary upgrades for a select few if there happen to be any available before you board the ship, and therefore higher end staterooms are usually not left empty on any cruise.

Remember too, on the Sea Princess, the next stateroom category is a mini suite, and on the Sea, these are designed more like the full suites on the larger ships. We have sailed in both an AB and an AC on the Sea Princess and had to book long in advance just to grab one up with no price break at all.

Hopefully you will be happy in your balcony stateroom that you have booked! Enjoy your cruise.

Be very careful what you wish for.

Some upgrades aren't that great.

Cruise lines will move you to hard to sell cabins.

Forward - Rear. One deck higher.

Take it from experience.

I did not mention to TA "No Upgrade"

One day. looking at my cruise Personalizer, I noticed my mid-ship cabin was changed to a deck higher - way forward. I didn't like this upgrade and wanted my original cabin. TA gave me a hard time. Lucky enough it was sold and finally got it back.

Lesson learned - always request - No Upgrades!!!!!!
