Cleanser that's easy on the eyes

Cruise Junky

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I have pretty normal skin, not prone to breakouts and have been using Aloette Cleanser for a while now. What I've noticed recently is my eye lids reacting to it. I don't put it on my eye lids and try and be careful, but they're red and itchy from some transferance, maybe from the face cloth. I do love what it does with my skin, but of course can't sacrifice the eyes ;) Any recommendations for what would be really gentle even if it does come into contact with eye lids?

Clinique has very good ones Take the Day Off, and Rinse Off Eye Makeup Remover they are both very gentle and effective, I think they also have a cream that is gentle, go to a counter you will get good advice as to what will work for you.

So agree!!! Clinique's Naturally Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.I have very sensitive eyes and I have used this for many years. I hate any of the oily products out there.

I absolutely love Lancome Bi-Facil. It's an eye-makeup remover and is non-greasy.

But for the sake of luggage space, when we travel I carry Boots No7 Quick Wipes. They are the premoistened sheets and remove all makeup, and don't sting the eyes. Target carries Boots.

Being English, I love Boots!! In Canada we have a drugstore also that carries their products....far cheaper than in the UK too.

I swear by Philosophy Purity cleanser. It is an extremely gentle facial cleanser and takes off eye make up like a charm. It lasts forever too because you only need a tiny dot to cleanse your whole face.

Sephora sells small sample size bottles for about $10.

I've been using Estee Lauder products for years and her facial cleansers are very nice and gentle. There are different ones for different types of skin. EL also has eye makeup remover, but I don't use it very often, so don't want to comment on it.

I can't be bothered using a separate eye makeup remover and a face cleanser and need my cleanser to do both, and I too have very sensitive eyes.

I use the creamy milk cleanser from Chanel. It's pricey but I've had it for 6 months and I'm not even half done with the bottle yet, and I use it every night. Gets all my face and eye makeup off.

I've tried the Boots #7 and it stings my eyes.

Ah, it's funny that you mentioned the Chanel...that's the one I've been looking at. I don't care about the cost, I love Chanel products. I think I'll pick it up at the duty free next month.

Philosophy Purity cleanser totally removes eye makeup, as well as all makeup. And, it's very gentle. I no longer need eye makeup remover since I started using it. I use Purity, then followup with other skincare. You can get Philosophy at Sephora, Nordstrom, as well as their website and QVC.

I'll agree wholeheartedly with this choice. I am always hesitant to try anything new on my skin since it is so sensitive, but this stuff works. I have a bit of acne rosacea on my cheeks and chin, I wear contact lenses and use waterproof mascara on my lower lashes. This cleanser doesn't irritate my rosacea, gets the waterproof mascara off pretty well and does not irritate my eyes even after a 12 hour day with contacts in.

I'm using their moisturizer, Hope In A Jar, as well. I'm not quite as impressed as others are with it, but at least it doesn't irritate my skin. Many products contain fragrance or other ingredients that inflame my skin to no end, although I love Chanel eye shadow and lipstick, I hesitate to use it on my skin.

From Chanel I use the Lait Confort - Creamy Cleansing Milk. It's $45. for a 5 oz bottle (150 ml). I use just one pump for my whole face, including eye makeup.

Here's a pic of it. http://uma.chanel.com/product.php?chnprd=SKPRE5C8

Thank you!! I think that's the one I saw for $37 at the duty free (we have one of those very large duty free's downtown that you can preorder for delivery to the airport - great chanel selection). I'll definitely pick one up..as well as a few other items ;)

It took me a bit of experimenting to get my Chanel combination right. I fell in love with the Eclat Original Comfort Cream, but wearing it in the day is too heavy, I also love the Hydramax + Active but wearing that at night and in the day was drying my skin out by the end of the day....Thank Heavens for samples which Chanel is so generous with. My issue now is keeping my husband away from the comfort cream, it makes your skin so soft. Not sure why they have to be so heavy on the perfume though, some of the serums drive me nuts.

I've recently become addicted to Chanel's nail polish, wow, it's amazing!!

That's a good savings, especially when you add in the tax (almost 9% in NYC) and there's no tax on duty free. :)

I like Chanel's nail polish too.

Sometimes, the "perfumes" in skin care products aren't perfume, but rather the natural scent of the botanical that's used as an active ingredient. So they're added for their skin care properties, as opposed to giving a scent to the product.

I just got a new face powder from Caron, which has a strong scent of rose. The rose is pure extract and used in it because of its anti-aging properties, not because of the fragrance. Though many people would find it pleasant, I don't like the scent of rose in products.

I can attest to the Chanel cleanser that Jane recommends. I just started using it two months now and I ike it. I switched from Lancomes "Eau de Bienfait" which is a cleanser and toner all in one that removes face and eye makeup. It is gentle on the face.

I switched to Chanel because I wanted a change from my makeup removal routine and since I already use Chanel 's skincare I figured I would try the cleanser.

Both work well for me......

I have problems even finding waterproof mascara that doesn't make my eyes sting. Finally settled on a great Lancome product. But once on none of my cleansers would make it budge. A friend lent me a cloth of hers one night and yea!; it works and no stinging either. So now I always travel with Neutragena's Make Up Removal Disposable Cloths. They remove all make up and do not leave a greasy residue although I sometimes rinse with water in winter to dab on a bit of a night eye gel by Elemis.

NorthernLight,

What's the reason you wear waterproof mascara? Is it because you swim/exercise?

I'm just curious.

Visine use. I take meds that dry my eyes and normally it's not too bad. But traveling I think it's cleaning supplies that hotels use that has me using Visine a lot. This last cruise I noticed that my eyes really stung when we were in the Cova Cafe just as they started doing the casino carpets down below. I do use Almay's mascara in amethyst that isn't waterproof for days at home where I can fix runs if I rub my eyes before I head for the eye drops. And this medication beats the last version.

Try using waterproof only on your lower lashes. Waterproof mascara is so tough on eyelashes, to get it off you need to rub a lot more, risking loss of your lashes.

My eyes water a lot due to slight allergies and contact lense wearing. I use regular mascara on the top and waterproof only on the bottom. When I remove my eye makeup at night, I saturate a cotton pad with remover and hold it on the lashes to disolve the mascara, no rubbing needed.

Since you state you use eye drops, catch the excess with a tissue, or better yet a towel or washcloth in the corner of your eye. Eyes can't hold a whole drop of liquid, so more than a drop in each eye is product waste according to my eye doctor.

A drop is about all I use. Although on ships the occasional two or three drops plop in. LOL Totally terrible with drops at sea but I sleep like a rock, go figure.

Oh, with these cloths the only wiping is a light all over. They really remove all make up very quickly. I've tried several where I hold a saturated cotton ball in place and then wipe once. Not impressed. And most need a mild cleanser afterwards to remove the gooey solvent. Nice thing about the plastic wrapped refill pack of Neutragena removers is the bag is resealable. I use a bag until I'm down to 15 then off on a 14 day cruise. The extra is we normally fly into the port city the day before. One less thing to carry home after that last casual night/packing frenzy fun.

I will try the bottom lashes only. With the deep purple on the upper lashes I can skip eye shadow during most days and some nights. Great idea. Thanks!

My friend has the same problem, and has had it all her life. I told her to try Dermalogica's Pre-cleanser, which is a light oil that emulsifies with water, and comes off with rinsing. She absolutely ADORES this stuff. I love it, too. She said it's the ONLY product she has ever tried, and she's bought them all, that doesn't sting or cause a reaction around her eyes. You can get samples from whomever sells Dermalogica products, so you can test it before you buy.

I buy all my Dermalogica products on ebay, now, by the way. I get about 45% off the regular retail price.
