canusa Posted February 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2009 We are cruising out of Fort Lauderdale in Nov. and are starting to research hotels. We hope to spend 3 nights pre cruise there and would really like a nice hotel (4 stars or more)on the beach for a.m. and p.m. walks. Would love to hear any recommendations . 092306 Posted February 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2009 We stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper and it was right on the beach. I don't know if it's an official 4 star but I'd say at least 3.5 and it was a nice stay. They have a restaurant, store, etc and it's a 5 minute taxi ride to the port. It's also in walking distance to Las Olas nightlife/restaurants.

Times Prince Posted February 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Stayed at Hollywood Beach last time. Weather wasn't so good, so wasn't able to enjoy the beach or "boardwalk", but hotels were nice. You are pretty much limited to hotels for restaurants. Cab fare from FLL airport was about $22 and then it was about $26 to the pier, which was more than I had budgeted.
stoneharborlady Posted February 15, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Lago Mar is pretty nearly perfect. On a beautiful beach, you can walk down to the channel entrance to the port, and practically touch the cruise ships as they enter or exit. We got up early (like 5:30) the morning of our cruise, sat on our Lago Mar balcony with our coffee, and watched the Caribbean Princess, all lit up like a Christmas tree, come into port. It gave me goosebumps. The hotel is beautiful, the service cannot be matched, and the lagoon pool is fun for the children. A really nice bar/restaurant at the lagoon pool, a neat coffee shop, and a terrific restaurant where we had a great buffet breakfast. What a way to start a cruise. You cannot walk to shops from the hotel though, if you dont have a car. They have a website, give it a look. Karen

99florida Posted February 15, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 15, 2009 I second that on the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa. Absolutely beautiful, pool is awesom for the kids too. We are staying there again in April before boarding the Crown.
atlasali Posted February 16, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Loved this place! Ate both supper (early dinner special) and breakfast on their huge veranda overlooking the ocean. Spacious room. Warm outdoor pool (we arrived Dec. 21st) and a lazy river with inner tubes. Booked with hotwire 4 star.
jclarkeusa Posted February 16, 2009 #15 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Could not agree with you more. Wonderful place to stay, pre or post cruise. You should definately look into this resort; an excellent value for the money. Used to be under the Best Western banner. Probably a good move they ditched the Best Western name. atlasali Posted February 17, 2009 #22 Share Posted February 17, 2009 It was a hopeful guess, looking at the map, looking at the stars. My friend tried to book there after her cruise Dec. 26th, did not get it. She had to expand her area.
ariel7303 Posted February 28, 2009 #23 Share Posted February 28, 2009 Has anybody recently won the Pelican Grand Beach Resort on Hotwire? I was wanting to stay there in September but am concerned about booking through Hotwire. (Eventhough, I have used Hotwire before!)
horsepoor Posted February 28, 2009 #24 Share Posted February 28, 2009 You may want to check to see if the motel you decide to stay at offers parking for your auto while you are cruising. Some motels offer free parking for up to 7 days and a free shuttle to and from the port. Parking would be much cheaper that way. Just something else to think about!:)
