I just got out of the hospital with a severe case of gastritis and I leave in 3 days for my cruise. :o Anyone have a favorite gastritis food? Mine has been mashed potatoes but that is going to get old REALLY FAST!!! What the heck can I eat on this cruise that's not going to require pain killers for desert.

Oooh! That's too bad. These are things that would work for me (they're pretty dairy-intensive, which might be a problem for you if you don't tolerate dairy well):

  • oatmeal and cream of wheat for breakfast
  • yogurt
  • creamed soups
  • chilled fruit soups
  • broiled skinless chicken and/or fish with sauce on the side
  • ice cream (:))
  • bananas and other fruit, except for pineapple which would further upset my tummy if it were already upset

I hope you feel better before you sail!

When in doubt, think white (except stay away from fatty foods).

Toast, (exciting huh?), bananas, oatmeal, rice, potatoes (not fried), chicken.

Also think clear: broths, jello, juices.

Gradually add in veggies and whole fruits and then fatty or fried foods and spicy high fiber foods last.

Just because someone has gastritis does not mean that it is contageous. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining. I happen to have this at present also (although a milder case - no hospitalization). Mine is a result of over the counter pain relievers (ibuprophen) and my stomach biopsies confirmed that there is no infectious process going on.

My apologies I thought it was Gastroenteritis

Sincerely apologise, but I still will state that anyone who has this needs to think before moving into the wider community especially on a cruise ship.

Bubbs & Blues ;)

Ps hope you're feeling better soon!

I would say bland until your stomach is in a better condition. what I ate for my ailing tummy was white rice, grilled chicken, bananas, baked or mashed potatoes.

not a lot of extra spices, or milk products.

I was lucky that only usually lasts for a couple of days at the most.

I would call the special services department of the ship you will be on and tell them your conditions and have them help you. They will help you with some ideas, I imagine. Take care of yourself and have a good cruise.

Scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, applesauce (no spices), oatmeal...bland stuff...do try yogurt...it really does help.

Good luck..hopefully, you'll be fine and eating more than bland foods soon!

Original post is two years old, so I hope she's feeling better by now! :D
