Instead of an assisted living facility here is an alternate "Cruise ship" experience

Instead of shuffling to a retirement home here is another possibility. Based on my reading of the link to the website embedded in the article I linked to below i came to the following conclusions. The ship will be mostly docked at Port Canaveral, but will take a one day/month trip out to sea for gambling purposes. It will take a monthly trip to the Bahamas (but don't say for how long each trip will last) and finally a once a year trip to the Caribbean for a week or so.

Whoa! Did you see the teeny tiny size of the "condos"? Those are smaller than the cheapest inside cabin on our Disney cruise. For that kind of money, I would expect at least a small suite with separate living and sleeping quarters.

I like the concept, but bigger suites are a must or separate connecting cabins for dh and I.:D

Pool at a assisted living facility? at least here in Southern California I know of none that have one, but I have only been to about 10 sites.

My Dad lives in an assisted living center in Bakersfield that has a pool and a hot tub.

Since I have stated in my previous signature that I want to die on board a cruise ship, I need to read that article!!!:D

The "for fun" casino is just that no money exchanges hands. It would be illegal while it is docked. That is why they are planning taking cruises to know where once a month (much like the casino ships)

Well at least the $10,000 deposit is refundable. The ship is being built here in Jacksonville, I have a feeling which company is doing but I don't think there would be anyway to see it remotely.

Couple things I find interesting is that it is going to be run like a homeowner's association, that could get interesting esp with everyone living so close to each other. They talk about building other ships and placing them around Florida. The Cape makes sense, because they have the space/parking where one of their casino ship was located. In Jax, since the port authority bought the Mayport land there is not a lot of suitable places to "park" a ship.

Also, when the ship goes to the Bahamas I wonder how the insurance would work if you have issues while down there. I wonder since they don't specifically mention Nasau, I wonder if they are mix up the Bahama trips? One time go to Nassau, next time Freeport the following time any other bahamian that has a dock larger enough for this relatively small ship.

Those two Cape class packet boats were originally intended to be placed in service, running along both the East Coast and West Coast, under a division of now defunct Delta Queen Lines.

9-11 did that idea in - too bad. I would have loved to have travelled on one.
