Tired of the bad Carnival Rep

Honestly, I don't care. I can say that if someone is going to pass judgment on me solely based on my choice of cruise line, that's not someone who's opinions matter much to me anyhow. I have bigger and better things to worry about. ;)

I like what I like and I don't need to disclose my education level, financial status, or moral beliefs in order to justify my choice of cruise line to ANYONE except for my husband, who helps foot the cruise bills! LOL

I am a home-based travel agent and always book my own trip, but because I registered on the Carnival website, a PVP will call me usually the day after I log in, and then will continue to make follow up calls for like two weeks. I even told him I was a TA and he still calls me occasionally. It is nice that he keeps me informed of the sales, but I don't think he is doing himself or carnival justice by calling me every few weeks.

I think they have a required number of calls daily.

I see just as much bashing of other lines, especially RCL by Carnival devotees. So what is the difference, Carnival cheerleaders bashing other lines or devotees of other lines bashing Carnival. If you dont like to hear it, then those many posters who do it here, should quit too. It just makes the others want to do it even more too.

This is the pot calling the kettle black.

I have never sailed on a 7 day Carnival cruise, only 3, 4 and 5 days, and the answer to your question, is no, I have never experienced rowdy, drunkeness, and we have sailed during spring break as well with the kids. I am not saying I didnt see any drunk people, LOL, there are a few, but we found that on RCL as well and they didnt bother me in the least. We have found that the demographics on all of our cruises are mixed. I met a family on a previous cruise, who was a RCL loyalist, but because of last minute change of plans chose to cruise CCL and she admitted, she was wary because of the rumors, but by the end of the cruise, she was pleasantly suprised and wondered herself why CCL got such a bad rap.

I really dont care for snooty people and I have heard many snooty remarks from RCL cruisers and I can imagine Celebrity is worse. I prefer passengers that enjoy what they enjoy without bashing the other line, to each his own. There are many experienced cruisers who sail a variety different cruise lines.

Just curious. You said you don't like people who bash other cruise lines, yet you bash RCCL & Celebrity people & call them snooty ???

Well, honestly, who cares what anyone else thinks? I don't cruise to please anyone but myself and my family. We love cruising and feel like it's genuinely enhanced our lives. I can't imagine caring what anyone else thinks about what lines I choose to cruise on and why.

I've been on RCI, X, and Carnival and we're currently looking at Princess. The truth is that we enjoy Carnival, ten to 1, more than other lines we've chosen, so far. As a matter of fact, we HATED the Mariner. That was the worst cruise we've ever taken, and while it wasn't horrific, it certainly wasn't even close to great! We enjoy the service on X, but other than that, it's quite sedate and, quite frankly, a touch boring. Of course, we're 37 and 40, with four children, and I'm not quite ready to be hitting the sack every night at 10 p.m. sharp or sitting stiffly in a lounge listening to Sinatra while sipping a cognac.

Most of the mass marketed lines are so similar, I really don't see the fuss in one being "better" than the other. There are some slight differences, but most of them just aren't enough to turn us completely away from one line or the other. Carnival works for us because we like the options they offer, the food, and the relaxed atmosphere.

There are those that believe Carnival is inexpensive, and therefore cheap. There are those that believe Carnival is geared toward the less educated, as well. I've heard every excuse under the sun, and then find out later, they've never stepped foot on a Carnival ship. That sounds like ignorance to me. ...insert a shrug there... To each his own, right?

However, just to stir the pot for all you that judge with no prior knowledge, I'm quite educated and own my own company, as does my husband. We don't struggle to cruise, nor do we choose Carnival because it's "cheap". We choose them because, for us, the people are more...real. They don't pretend to be anything other than someone having a good time on a vacation.

I've never had someone ask me what I "do" on a Carnival cruise. On both RCI and X, it's an inevitable question. They seem to need to know whether to be impressed or not.

I always get the biggest kick out of seeing your average, every day person dressed to the nines and giving those, "I'm SOOO much better than you stares", to people dressed in blue jeans. I suppose they simply don't see the irony in believing themselves "better" than someone they've never met simply because that complete stranger is wearing denim. It's just too funny to me.

Hmmm. You don't like X because they are to sedate & boring, but you like the relaxed atmoshere of Carnival. (Kind of sounds the same)

Carnival people are real people & everyone else is what

When you go on a Carnival ship, no one ever asks you what you did on your cruise  Maybe they just don't care what you did.

The people that are dressed up give you I'm better than you stares  Does that mean no one dresses up on a Carnival ship ??

It's funny because I've listened to many say don't bash the cruise line I like, but go ahead & bash all the other people that don't cruise Carnival.

I have been on 19 cruises so far

IN many ways CArnival is way better then Celebrity in my experience

Galaxy had pretty bad food except for dinner

Carnival Miracle was Great all the time .I prefer the stations

Shows on Miracle were FABULOUS

Dance shows on Celebrity lacking

Cabins way better on Carnival

Every cruise company offers different things Some better some worse

For me some of the BEST food was on Princess /Costa

Best cabins RCCL PRincess -caribe deck ,COsta and Carnival

Shows Rccl Carnival Princess

Best Casinos RCCL

Service pretty much even

Most Fun COSTA

smallest cabins NCL MSC

I choose cruises because of itineraries

A snooty friend of mine (yes, I said snooty. I love her, but along with being a very caring, funny person, she is into acquiring things and power and status) asked me to join her for a mid-June, birthday RCCL cruise in Hawaii this year. Financially, I just cannot do it on such a short notice.

I countered with an offer to do the Carnival Conquest's Bahamas itinerary the same week of her birthday. The cruise is about the same price for a balcony, BUT we live in Texas and Galveston is 3 hours from her and 45 mins from me. It would cut out the air fare and hotel stay.

She said that she had to think about it because she just does not like Carnival cruises. I don't think she has ever sailed Carnival and if she has it was over 20 years ago before I first met her. Last month, I sailed on the Conquest's Western Caribbean itinerary with a friend who was worried because she had only cruised RCCL and HEARD that Carnival was sub par. She had the time of her life and wants to do the Bahamas itinerary next year...

My snooty friend said she would get back to me regarding doing her birthday cruise... In the mean time, I want to do a trip to Cozumel in June for snorkeling and the 4 day Ecstasy cruise out of Galveston will be perfect.

The one thing I love on a cruise vacation is how everyone is so NICE to everyone. Everyone speaks and asks about your day and is really kind to the person singing karaoke who is not very good. I love the vibe. I have only sailed twice and both times the Conquest, so I don't know if that same is true on other lines. At this point, with my past-guest perks, I don't really care to find out anytime soon.

By the way, every woman and 13 year old girl had a tattoo on my last cruise. The Conquest had a temporary tattoo artist on the Lido deck every day. I never remembered to get to her in time to get one. Maybe they have tattoos on the Ecstasy???

Gotta go now. Going to book my June cruise to snorkel in Cozumel!! :D

One more thing. Since I began my love affair with cruising in January of 2008 I have never and never even thought of visiting the cruise critic forum for any other cruise line on this board. Why would I? I don't cruise on them. I cruise Carnival because they are in Galveston and fit my budget.

Why do cruisers who do not like Carnival, or never cruised Carnival, visit this forum and post here?

I don't get it.

Yeah!! I've wondered that too!! I think its because some of these people would secretly like to try Carnival but are afraid of what other would think. Maybe their social circle would look down on them. It could also be that they see how fun we can be over here.

I too know of those from all walks of life that are inked. I got my first when I was 50. It's in good taste (actually reflects cruising) and is covered unless I am wearing shorts. Our adult children, some with tattoos of their own, were a little surprised! I've had a lot of nice comments about it and none have been negative.

It just seems odd that the poster pointed out tattoos on Carnival...........I've seen much stranger things...........And not just on the ship!!

I took my tat to the Royal Suite on the Rhapsody for a week in July 2005...maybe that's why I never saw the "butler"...they figured I wouldn't know what to do with him anyway.

I did like that extra half bath, though.

Why not, would that be against some rule or something? I've cruise Carnival 4 times and am not opposed to having non-Carnival Cruisers visit and post here.

I may not like Republican/Democrat philosophies (take your pick) and I may not be a member of the Republican/Democratic Party (take your pick) but I think it's perfectly alright for me to offer my opinion about Politics whether I am part of the opposing viewpoint, if I so choose.

Well, let me tell you why Tedjazz. You should not offer opinions on subjects that you know nothing about.

We come to these forums to share experiences and information. If you do not like Carnival Cruise Lines and you do not sail on them, why visit the forum for Carnival? Until I book a cruise or consider booking a cruise on another line I will never visit another forum. It will have NOTHING to offer me.

People who are new to Carnival and are considering cruising with them and want more information should visit this forum. However, I see many posters who have like 20 cruises and none of them are Carnival. They visit this forum and tend to post on threads that have a negative bent toward Carnival. They usually post comments that are negative in regard to Carnival.

My opinion is if you do not have a personal experience with Carnival and you do not want one, your opinion of Carnival Cruise Lines is not necessary nor wanted on this forum.

Point taken, but like I said, there is no rule that says you can't offer an opinion (positive or negative/informed or ignorant), and who says it's not wanted? I'm not opposed to hearing what other "non" Carnival Cruisers have to say.

I come here for advice on Carnival cruises. I want to hear from posters who have actually been on a Carnival cruise. I do not want to hear from someone who heard something about a Carnival cruise and then formed an opinion. When I need information, accidentally those uninformed posts wastes my time.

Again, I have to say, how much is an opinion of Carnival worth when the poster has no personal experience with the cruise line?

I wonder at all the bashing myself....the bashing stopped me from trying NCL for the longest time, and once I did, I was so freaking shocked that I liked it, then I felt utterly stupid for listening to people on the boards who bashed it.

It was a big lesson.

I sailed Celebrity with the opposite expectation...I thought (because of all the 'board talk') that X would be FAR SUPERIOR to all my CCL cruises...the joke was on me.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my X cruise because I love to cruise. I don't know if it was just 'bad luck' or a bad choice of itinerary (14 day PC Crossing) that had me on a ship with passengers as snobbish as the ones on these boards. Yes, we were continuously asked what we do for a living...but not only that. My DH was also asked what type of car he drove (which was strange/rude enough) but then, after he answered, the person had the gall to respond, "Oh...that's a shame."

 wth?????????

The crowd on that ship was just VERY subdued and sometimes rude.

On that particular sailing, there was just no 'fun' I spent the first two days defending Carnival to people until my DH told me to let it go. It was funny...in general conversation, people would ask what lines you have cruised...when I would respond CCL, the faces I saw were just amazing...their eyes would glaze over or they'd screw up their mouths like they just bit into something sour.

I have heard from others that it was just a bad group...that if I tried X again, maybe a shorter itinerary as opposed to a two-weeker, that I might find it different. I would like to give Celebrity the benefit of the doubt...but not yet. I just can't get myself to even look at possible cruises on that line, which is a shame because the cruise itself wasn't bad. The point is, I'm comfortable sailing CCL and NCL and even RCI for now. No one of them is better than the other; each have something special to offer. When I sailed NCL and RCI, no one scrunched up their face when I said I liked Carnival.

I think some people's idea of fun is different than what others is. If all those pool-side games like Hairy Chest contest are appalling to you and you don't like the waiters singing in the dining room, then Celebrity may be a better fit. But let me tell you, for me, for 14 days, every day while on X, the most 'exciting thing' every afternoon was the 2:00 sorbet parade.

After two solid weeks of that, I swore I'd NEVER complain about dancing waiters, hairy chests, and 300 pound men in speedos again. I'll take that any time over what I had on my Celebrity sailing, because that's what's best for me. This doesn't make CCL a better line, it makes CCL a better fit for me. If the people on the X boards were to state their opinions in that way, it would be a lot nicer. ;)

Easy fix... review the poster's Cruise Resume to see if it meets with your needs and then read the post or pass right over it based on your critical evaluation of the possibility they may be wasting your time.

Ted,

Great tip, Thanks!! I will have to scan past cruises before I read. But this does not answer or really have anything to do with my original question of why they post in the first place.

I would never go over to the RCCL forum and post that I heard that RCCL cruises and their customers are pretentious snobs, who would not know a good time if it slapped them in the face. It would be out of order and mean because I know nothing about RCCL or the people who cruise the line.

Can you tell me why someone would post a personal opinions of Carnival and Carnival cruisers in the Carnival forum if you have never sailed with them? I still don't understand it.

You can always find a quiet place on a Carnival ship if that's what you want.

On some of these other lines, you can't find lively places if they don't exist.

That is so true!!!

We are getting ready to book our first carnival cruise. And , yes, I have heard the bad press. But, I decided to check it out for myself. This will be our first cruise for our 2 teen daughters. I was looking into RCCL but Carnival is offering a better price. So we are looking into sailing on the Valor come this summer.

My Dh and I have sailed Celebrity many times. And I agree with the poster, the board can be stuffy.

I have very much enjoyed the Millenium class ships. The service is excellent. We have also been very lucky to make some very great friends with other CC'ers from our roll call. I hope you get to do the same.

Probably the advantage on X is you always can find a spot in the hot tubs, pools etc...

But the entertainment in the eve is pretty sad. We dined at the late seating, would then go to the show, the casino and have drinks with friends.

I think X could use more "fun". I dont need belly flop contests etc but napkin folding!!?? That being said I will gladly sail X again. But, I am so looking forward to my first Carnival

cruise.

LOL! I'm actually not sure either! :D

It could be either. "Hear" being the speaker liked what they heard or wants to be heard that they agree, and "here" being the person saying I'm present and I agree.

Now how's that for some edumacation? :D

I honestly have never understood why people care so much about what other people think.

It sounds like you have already formed an opinion about RCCL and so there would be no need to post on that board, unless you really wanted to and there are no rules precluding you from doing so.

As far as why someone would post opinions/comments having never cruised Carnival...I don't know. I think maybe you are making some assumptions about people who post here on the Carnival Boards. Not everyone includes their Cruise Resume/History with their signature which would limit our knowledge of what lines they have experience with, so I would think you have just a few suspects that may be irritating you.
