STEELERETTE Posted June 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2009 We are traveling on the Liberty of the Seas on 6/20 and I want to make a dinner reservation at Chop's and Portofino's, but I do not want to miss the lobster night in the dining room. I missed it the last time and was very disappointed. I believe I thought it was on one of the two formal nights, but it wasn't. Does anyone know how to find out this information? Do I need to book my dinner reservations now, or just do it when we board the ship? Thanks, Steelerette
peteranddan Posted June 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2009 We will be cruising RCCL for the first time in December, but from what I've read on these boards, they no longer do a "lobster night" in the MDR. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...enjoy your shrimp

Dirty Hobbit Posted June 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2009 According to the 7 day standard RCCL MDR menu that has been posted here reciently, the "Fisherman’s Plate" (lobster tail served with shrimp) is served on the second formal night (day 6, second to last night). I have always been served lobster tail and always been allowed seconds (or thrids or more!) but that is based on supply and I always eat on 2nd seating) on all of my RCCL cruises and it is almost always on a formal night. cb at sea Posted June 12, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2009 There really isn't a "lobster" night anymore--now, they call it a Fishermans platter (or something like that) and if you miss it, you won't have missed much. It's NOT what it used to be!

cruisedawgg Posted June 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Sure, it's called the "Fisherman's Platter" now, but it's still the tail of a Lobster. I was on the May 4 sailing on FOS out of PC, and we definitely had the "platter" one night. And I was OFFERED a second plate without asking! SDA1125 Posted June 12, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Just back from EOS on May 28th -lobster night was the last night and we ordered two with no problem. Its by no means a huge tail but it is still lobster and was very good.
karena1 Posted June 12, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2009 My DH thinks the Fisherman's Platter is not bad at all. Sure it is not huge lobster. But he got as much as he wanted, in fact our waiter brought hime 3 to start with. With all the shrimp cocktails he had before dinner, and the shrimp with the lobster, he was stuffed. When we were on Liberty last year, it was on the second formal night. Unless you want 5* dining lobster, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the fisherman's platter they serve now. DH was perfectly content with it.

Its by no means a huge tail but it is still lobster and was very good. For those of us who don't get lobster at home the RC lobster is GREAT! Although we live on the Gulf Coast we don't get lobster...any other seafood, sure. We've got the best shrimp around! But lobster...have 3 :D
grand isle joe Posted June 12, 2009 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2009 You can't even call them lobsters...being warm water creatures and probably from South Africa or someplace else and previously frozen. Nothing like a fresh Maine lobster. Nothing else can compare. As previous posters have stated you are not really missing much. As they say down east "Lobstah just excuse for eatin' buttah.":D
mation101 Posted June 12, 2009 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Here in So Cal we have been seeing fresh frozen tails for $3.99 -$6.99each, at that price I would rather buy my own and cook them properly, then eat the little rubber balls you tend to get in the MDR. I personally think lobster gets a much better rap than is really deserves.
firefly4423 Posted June 12, 2009 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2009 thanks for the dinning list. Its gives insight and what they actually do on most cruises and shows how the present things!

I would be - its not somehting I typically splurge for at home and something I look forward to. I'm sure you feel the same way about other aspects of cruising that I couldn't give two hoots about. I personally think lobster gets a much better rap than is really deserves. I agree. Here in the Atlanta area, the prices are pretty much the same and the quality, although frozen, is far better that what is served in the dining room (also from frozen). I thought that you could get frozen lobster tails almost anywhere these days. All of the supermarkets as well as Costco, Sams & BJ's have them. ;) Now, whole fresh lobster is another story.... That's good eating!!... :D

dougp26364 Posted June 13, 2009 #22 Share Posted June 13, 2009 We are traveling on the Liberty of the Seas on 6/20 and I want to make a dinner reservation at Chop's and Portofino's, but I do not want to miss the lobster night in the dining room. I missed it the last time and was very disappointed. I believe I thought it was on one of the two formal nights, but it wasn't. Does anyone know how to find out this information? Do I need to book my dinner reservations now, or just do it when we board the ship? Thanks, Steelerette I have found the easiest way is to just ask the host at the specialty restaurants. There are a few menu's that we don't care for in the MDR. One was the night they had the tom turkey offering. I told them what I was trying to avoid, they looked at their list and told me what night that meal would be served in the main dining room and we made our reservations. I'm sure they can tell you what night is "lobster night" in the MDR if you want to make sure you don't miss it. As mentioned by other posters, you're not really missing much. It's more like overcooked pieces of rubber with drawn butter poored over it. Definately not a lobster lovers idea of what lobster should be but, probably the best that can be done when you're serving 1000 or more people in a seating and almost all of them want the lobster. Dpeeps Posted June 13, 2009 #23 Share Posted June 13, 2009 We were on the 5 nighter on the Navigator....and yes there was a lobster night...the fishermans platter which has already been mentioned....but us being from Ohio....and not picky eaters.....my husband thouroughly enjoyed the lobster tails! He actually had 7 of them! But like I said ....he is not a picky eater! :) Sorry tho...I can't remember the night it was on??
LuckiePuris Posted June 13, 2009 #24 Share Posted June 13, 2009 For cruises of more than 14 nights, would you have more than one lobster night? Can you order as many lobster tails as you want? If you want two or three, do you ask for this many when you first order? Or finish one, and then ask to order another? Also, if you can't decide between two desserts etc. Do the waiters have any problem with you ordering two desserts?
monn_a Posted June 13, 2009 #25 Share Posted June 13, 2009 I just returned from the Serenade and the lobster night was on the second formal night...but the cruise before that it was on the last night of the cruise. They did offer add'l tails if you wanted one on our cruise...apparently it varies from cruise to cruise...
