Pearl64 Posted June 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2009 We are flying in the day before our Alaskan cruise on the Sapphire Princess the end of August. We need a place to stay (basically sleep) near the Vancouver airport. We do not arrive until 9 pm and will need shuttle service to the airport so we can go to the hotel and then back to the airport in the am to pick up our cruise transfers to the port. Due to our late arrival and 3 hour time difference we do not need the nightlife packages. We do want a safe neighborhood. All of the hotels near the dock seem rather pricey when all we will be doing is sleeping. We would like one with breakfast included if possible. I have read on CC about people using Priceline. Does that mean the reservations are a No Change one? Just never done Priceline so I do not know. Thanks for everyone's help. Pearl
Urban trekker Posted June 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2009 While pricey - the Fairmont Airport hotel is located right at the Airport - no luggage hauling required. There are lots of chain hotels located in Richmond BC - a short shuttle from the Airport and in a safe area. Also - you say you have a late August cruise - our new Rapid Transit line from the Airport to the Cruise Port - Canada Place is due to start up NO LATER than Labour Day so you might get lucky and be able to use it to get downtown. I am no expert on Priceline - but either Richmond or Vancouver Airport would be the area that you would bid for. ScottBee or Putterdude after he finishes his golf game will be along to give you more information. Hope this helps and gets you started Cheers Dennis
andy.capitan Posted June 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I liked the Radisson at the airport. http://www.radisson.com/hotels/bcvanair Their "24 hour" shuttle doesn't operate 24 hours (I think 11pm is the latest) but if you arrive after that, they will pay for a taxi. I booked through hotels.com. There is a Tim Horton's nearby that is 24 hours.
FlCatLover Posted June 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I'm staying at a Choice Hotel in Richmond in June and they have an airport shuttle that goes until 12:30 AM. They also have a breakfast.
sooper Posted June 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Yes, Priceline reservations cannot be changed or cancelled (unless you get the insurance option). Check out the West Coast Departure forum - there's a link on top with all the Priceline bid information. It's fairly easy to bid and you can get hotels for much less than the advertised rate. Putterdude Posted June 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Out at the airport there is the Delta and Accent Inn both of which I can recommend. www.deltavancouverairport.ca http://www.accentinns.com/
Pearl64 Posted June 23, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks to all who gave me suggestions on hotels. I will be researching the Delta and Accent Inns later today. I did find out the Radisson has a special for cruise passengers that may work. It is refundable two days out. The other couple going with us has some health concerns which is the reason for the cancellation policy. In my research which was limited to my familiarity was limited to the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton both on Bridgeport Road. Does any one know anything about them? I enjoy reading your responses, Urban Trekker and Putterdude! You both have a wealth of information. All of us travelers really appreciate you taking the time to reply to our questions. We are getting anxious about our trip. Can't wait. Pearl
BCHappyGal Posted June 23, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2009 The Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Richmond: Holiday Inn Express is right on the curve of the access road to the Bridge over the Fraser so if you get a room on the east side of the hotel it will have a wonderful view of the very busy highway #99 and probably be noisy... other than that probably fine. The Hampton is almost accross the street form Costco and would be the better choice in my opinion however have never stayed at either of them. bimmermom Posted June 23, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 23, 2009 We also stayed at the Richmond (Airport) Radisson and thought it was comfortable and clean. They have an airport shuttle.
Glaciers Posted June 23, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2009 While pricey - the Fairmont Airport hotel is located right at the Airport - no luggage hauling required. This is probably the closest hotel since it's right in the airport. Just take an elevator from baggage claim to the hotel lobby.
billet Posted July 3, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Get the friends and family rate at the fairmont and it will be as cheap as any other decent hotel in the area. If you use NFAF as the rate code the reduced prices will display.
lakeswan Posted July 3, 2009 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2009 What is the friends and family category - code NFAF for the Fairmont at Vancouver Airport? Are there restrictions on who can use it or is it available to anyone who has this code? Thank you.
nadonative Posted July 5, 2009 #13 Share Posted July 5, 2009 We just returned last Thursday. We stayed 2 nights on Vancouver Island and then came into Richmond for the last night since we had an early flight. We stayed at the Sheraton. It was a Best Western when I booked it, but on July 1st, when we checked in, it was celebrating it's first day as a Sheraton hotel! Very nice! We bid on Priceline and got a great price! 24 hour shuttle--FREE!

oilsand Posted July 14, 2009 #15 Share Posted July 14, 2009 I have stayed in both places A couple of blocks apart but both were very clean and satisfactory. Very safearea and probably no more than a five or ten minute shuttle to the airport. Think the hampton had a continental breakfast ( Decent) Not sure of the holiday Inn. I Teach Posted July 14, 2009 #16 Share Posted July 14, 2009 We recently returned and stayed our final night of our trip at the Raddison near the airport. We had an early flight and used their shuttle, (along with the flight crews for many of the airlines). We used Hotwire and got the Raddision for $90.00. It was very clean, rooms and beds very nice. FlCatLover Posted August 6, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 6, 2009 The Comfort Inn Vancouver Airport was wonderful! Close, clean, comfy bed & easy shuttle. No breakfast but they do have a restaurant or you could take the shuttle to the airport and eat breakfast there.
spotgrey Posted August 6, 2009 #18 Share Posted August 6, 2009 We couldn't get a decent flight from Vancouver on the day we disembarked in Vancouver from our cruise. Delta had a non stop from Vancouver to Atlanta on Saturday so I asked Cruise Critic experts where we could stay in Vancouver and enjoy it for one night since we had no car. We do like to gamble so we decided to stay at the River Rock Casino in Richmond BC. Cruise Critic people said it was a beautiful casino so we decided to pay the extra and enjoy the last night of our vacation.
mtnbikechick73 Posted August 6, 2009 #19 Share Posted August 6, 2009 I recently booked the Days Inn Vancouver Airport for our 1-night stay next week. I got the best rate through Travelocity - $69 plus taxes, which ended up being $84. We are coming in late as well and just need a place close to the airport to sleep and get back to the airport the next morning for our shuttle to the airport. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle. diverearl Posted August 6, 2009 #20 Share Posted August 6, 2009 We arrived late to Vancouver (YVR) around midnight and stayed at the Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport location (70.00 taxes included on Hotwire). They have a free shuttle that stops at 12:30am. After hours you simply get a cab and the hotel gives you $14.00 C (the fare was about $15 C). There is a shuttle to the Cruise ship docks (I think it was $15.00 pp) just ask upon arrival or call ahead and make reservations. The staff at the Holiday Inn was extremely helpful and friendly. If you use NFAF as the rate code the reduced prices will display. I have to add my big THANK YOU for this rate code, I just booked it for two weeks from now, and got an AWESOME rate. We arrive at close to midnight, and although I had a nearby hotel booked, it will be MUCH more convenient to not have to deal with a shuttle at that late hour. :)
rosesq Posted August 31, 2009 #23 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Just a head's up to you avoid any unpleasant surprise at the Fairmont. I work for another hotel company that offers a similar Friends and Family rate. At our properties, when you check in, you need to have to have paperwork (an authorization) issued by an associate of the company. This is true even if you have the Friends and Family rate quote. I don't know if the Fairmont has the same policy, but you may want to check.
