I was reading tonight how Dream does not have a "Sports Bar"

That cracked me up because all the other ships don't have one even though Carnival says they have one. I'm 6 or 7 Carnival cruises in and I still go to the sports bar even though you very rarely see anything other than soccer in Spanish on ESPN Deportes. On a 7 day cruise you might get max, 1 or 2 relevant sporting events to American passengers. The poor bartenders get so much abuse from unwitting passengers who actually think they might get to see their game. I've seen people screaming at the poor guys or girls. The important "can't miss" games that go unseen is incredible. I'm so jaded it actually cracks me up sometimes when I tell the guy next to me at the bar that there is NO shot he's gonna see what he thought he would see. I still go in there though hoping for a miracle. It's a tough call though. When I was a newbie I scoped out the "sports bar". If they stop mentioning a sports bar would someone actually look for another ship that had one? Not sure. Highly doubtful even though we want and need our sports fix. I'll one day check out Dream even though they don't have my beloved sports bar that show no sports.

Strange thread I just read that maybe only a sports fan may appreciate.

The Valor did have a sports bar. Just because they may not be showing the games you want to see does not necessarily disqualify it as a sports bar. But with so much to do aboard and on shore, it seems like a waste to sit in front of a TV while on vacation. You can do that anytime at home.

Ahhh.

Thanks for the "it seems like a waste to sit in front of a TV while on vacation. You can do that anytime at home." Please forgive the few of us who like to watch a sporting event during our vacation. I was just putting a random thought out.

Hey, Fig, I'm with you.

On a one week cruise, you're on board about 164 hours. Are we idiots for wanting to spend 2 or 3 of those watching our favourite pastimes? I don't think so. We're on vacation. Why shouldn't we want to watch some sports.

I do get the "you're on a cruise ship", so I certainly wouldn't watch golf for six hours, even if it was Saturday at the US Open. But I'd probably try to catch an hour or so.

On the Conquest on March, I headed down to the "Sports Bar", naively thinking I could catch a bit of a hockey game (last couple weeks of the season - playoff positions at stake) or at least something. But no, all they had was what was on the "in cabin" TVs, which meant not much, not even ESPN. I guess I was lucky because the March tournament was on, but I could get that in my room and frankly the ambiance of the bar just didn't entice me to stay.

I guess they call it a sports bar so they can get a few more people down to buy some extra drinks.

But I did get a chuckle at your post because I had exactly the same experience on my last Carnival cruise!

I'm wondering if its a waste to, sunbathe, drink, go to the casino, sleep, karaoke, see comedians, see the shows, go to the beach, swim in the pool, or see one of the shows, because you know you can do some of those things at home. Why waste time doing those activities, because you are on vacation:rolleyes:.

The ship can only show what comes in on their satellite connection. You can see it in your cabin, or in the Sports Bar (on Splendor it is Our House) on a multitude of larger screens. EM

We will be on the Dream in October in the Med. We have heard they will be showing the Formula 1 race on that weekend. Europeans love their Formula 1 so we hope it is true as we love it too. My husband is looking forward to watching it with others who are as passionate about it as he is.

The Sports Bars on Carnival Ships are a waste of space. I understand not being able to get all the channels but at least find some way to provide additional channels or at least a sports ticker.

With the lack of sporting events Carnival provides that space could be put to better use.

I spent a great sunday afternoon watching the Patriots whip up on the Cowboys on the Liberty in a packed sports bar.

Made a lot of new friends that day.

I know there are sports fans out there, my DD is a nascar fan. but when you go on vacation, why can men not leave their stupid games alone? I mean you are there to relax. how is watching a bunch of jerks relaxing? And this goes for the SOAP watchers of women also. Heck, set the stupid DVR or VCR to record what you want to see and leave it on deck. I personally, have only stepped into the sports bar, NEVER went in for a game, race, etc. And I don't have to be by a TV when my soap comes on.

Give it a break. They are not going to take the stupid stuff off the air because one person or 10 persons misses a game on Sunday.

RELAX is the key, and getting uptight when your team looses or makes a wrong play is NOT relaxing.

Be thankful you are on vacation, and able to do things other than watch a stupid game.

I found the "Sports Bar" on the Splendor kind of worthless. It reeked of smoke at all times. I stopped in there at around 7:00-8:00am a couple of mornings hoping to catch at quick Sportscenter, and the TVs were on Fox News Channel.

I will say, though, that my relaxation was actually heightened by NOT knowing scores for an entire week (I'm not a fantasy geek) and NOT worrying about the old June swoon for my Giants.

It's actually refreshing to have pretty much no idea what's going on in the world for about a week... even the sports world.

When I was on the Paradise in March, 2008, though, they did carry wall-to-wall March Madness on the first Thursday and Friday. I would have been pretty upset to miss that, but that was network TV.

WOW....you don't sound too relaxed....LOL...a vacation means different things to different people....people relax in different ways from each other....and everyone has an opinion as to how they personally would like to relax. Sounds like your opinion on anything *sports* is different than sports lovers!!! Remember..you can only change yourself, not others. :D

Well, sifting through all the BS here, the relevant question is Does the Dream have a Sports Bar? I have scoured the deck plans and can not find any mention of a Sports Bar as there is on many of Carnival's ships. What is the real answer?????

best way for me to relax, at home or on a cruise, is to sit back and watch a nascar race on sunday afternoon

Fig414 is right! Some of us love sports. One of my best "sports watching" experiences was on the Adventure of the Seas. I had earned a free cruise with my company. The Sunday we broaded ship in San Juan was the day of the Super Bowl between New England and my beloved Carolina Panthers! Me and my work mates watched in the sports bar which was packed with Panther and New England fans. The game was carried all over the ship. They even served hot dogs in the main theater.

My wife wanted to book an early April, 2010 cruise on the Dream. I talked her into booking the April 24 cruise so I wouldn't miss the Tar Heels trying to repeat as college basketball champions!!!! :D:D:D

watching the Olympics in the hot-tub or pool on the Liberty was a blast......They had it on the Big Out-door Screen.........it was great........

I am just thankful when I am on vacation so I can tell people where to go when they say things like this...:D

I go in to a Sports bar to meet people with similar interest have a drink. On the AOS they had draft beer , which I like, met some of the same guys there a few times for a couple of beers and to chat. I have met people from all over the world , even though I dislike soccer I enjoy talking to people from countries that love the game and hear their take on it and to tell them its not football LOL.

Which to me is the point of cruising, mingle with others and make friends.

I remember a few years back on an October cruise I met 2 little old ladies, they were sisters one was a Mets fan the other rooted for the Yankees.....it was playoff time and both teams made it........we would watch the games together.......they would save me a seat........they would see me on the ship and say "see you tonight"......it was priceless.....here I am a big 240lb big black guy and 2 older little white ladies had become my cruise friends............I love cruising...........meeting people......

We had an absolute BLAST on the Legend last October watching the Red Sox/Tampa Bay series. Since we left from Tampa there were tons of Rays fans, and of course, Red Sox fans are everywhere, so the bar was packed and the games were great. There was nowhere I would have rather been on those evenings!

One of my favorite things to do is to go to Sox games on the road, so for me this was a real treat. I am also offended by women who assume that only men enjoy sports  I don't tell people watching belly flop contests or frying themselves on the sun deck that they are wasting their vacation, so I would expect the same in return!

I hope there is a decent place to watch some games on the Dream, although it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

Great story! We were on the Freedom last year on AFC/NFC Championship Weekend and it was great banter amongst everyone. A lot of fun!:)

LOL, Welcome to every day of my life as an Australian living in the US. Channel after channel of sports I don't care about, followed by channel after channel of "college" versions of the same sports.

What we need is a cricket test match broadcast for the full five days on a five day cruise, but sod the sports bar. The big screen out by the pool!

Why do some people insist on telling other people what they should or should not do with their vacation? Relaxation is the key- worrying about what everyone else is doing is NOT relaxing.
