possible cruise

hello:

My partner and i are getting married in October and looking for honeymoon in November. I need your help on picking a possible cruise for November/December 2015.

We have about three weeks that we can go, and prices seem good.

First: we are in our mid thirties and never cruised before.

Second, looking for a 7-night cruise that includes St. Maarten

Third: Do not want Carnival: I do not think they are a good product, and have been told that they are the Walmart of the cruise industries.

I have pretty much narrowed it down to Celebrity Reflection over Thanksgiving week, or RCL Adventure of the Seas in December.

What I need help on is: Which one is a better product all together. I am looking for a peaceful opportunity to relax that is not going to make me go broke and wish i had done something else.

I live down here in MIA so taking a cruise out of here would be easier, but worried that on Celebrity, we would be very bored and the only ones under 50. RCL is cheaper, but rated on C/C less: getting to PR from here is easy and cheap btw.

Also, if we go T-day week: how bad are the crowds? I want to avoid crowds, and child filled ships.

the other option I have is to go to London for a week, so that is as to say, the competition that I am facing for this.

Thanks!

I would definitely avoid the week of Thanksgiving if you're looking for peaceful and fewer kids on board.

I can't speak to Celebrity, but we have done several November cruises on Adventure from PR and like it for several reasons: it's already warm when you get there, the Southern Caribbean routes are great, and we really like the size of ship. Depending on the sailing, the passenger mix can vary, and some groups can be pretty loud and boisterous. Each of our PR-based cruises was different, so you just never know.

If you want quiet go with Celebrity. RCI has a tendency to be a little louder and more announcements. If you get the current promotion from Celebrity , there won't be much to pay for other than excursions on the islands.Celebrity actually has only a couple announcements daily.

I agree with your choice of Celebrity over RCI; I've been on Celebrity and liked it, and I've heard bad things about how RCI handles problems.

RCI will probably have a younger crowd, but you wouldn't be the only people under 50 on Celebrity. Thanksgiving week is a wild card - some people will take their children out of school for a few days to go on a cruise, but it also depends on what specials the cruise lines are offering for that week. The week before Christmas is also likely to have children sailing.

I like Saint Martin. The Sint Maarten side is more crowded and touristy, but it's not the worst place I've been.

Weather's a factor in deciding between a cruise and London. The cruise would be more relaxing, but there might be more to do in London if there are storms.

For a honeymoon, I'd do the cruise, and get a balcony in a quiet part of the ship. Maybe even a suite!

thank you all..I will be honest: the one thing that i am most worried about though on cruising all together, is being bored.. I tried to go to Celebrity's website to see what entertainment is on the ship but that was no help.....I do not want to be on a geriatric ship where the normal bed time is 9pm....I am guessing a cruise will be relaxing, but i do not want it too relaxing. How does one alleviate boredom, or if there is a concern, should i not consider a cruise?

Again, can't speak to Celebrity, but on Adventure of the Seas, there will be entertainment every night that you can go to after dinner. To get an idea of what, you could look for a review here on CC that includes Cruise Compasses, the daily schedule on RCI. Generally, though, there will be music, sometimes dancing, possibly a show in the theatre (these run very much according to taste, and can be comedy, variety, or a band or performer), or the famous "70s night," which is sort of a street party on the promenade.

As for during the day, ports days are obvious--you can go to the beach or take an excursion. For sea days, we enjoy dining a little more leisurely for all meals, spending some time in the fitness center, and relaxing in the sauna/steam room (Adventure has these available free in the locker rooms). Additionally, there may be activities and live music going on during the day, and these will likewise be listed in the Cruise Compass. They may show movies on the big screen on the pool deck as well.

Lastly, it'll be your honeymoon. If you can't figure out how to occupy your time, well ... :)

Just came of a Celrbrity cruise. You definitely won't be bored. Many activities and shows run late until 1AM.

Having done 2 cruises on the Eclipse(sister ship to the Reflection)I'd choose that option. It is a bit mor formal than some lines,so bring a suit & tie(or tux if you go all out)Overall you'll find the food generally better than most lines & the entertainment to be quite enjoyable. Compare RCCL to an auto company...RCCL is the ford wearas Celebrity is more the Lincoln variety.

Another vote for Celebrity here too. These ships are some of the most beautiful afloat. It's a higher end product with a (generally) more sophisticated crowd than RCI. The ships are quiet and relaxing, but offer plenty to do if you chose. We are in our 30's and enjoy quiet time all day (usually in the Solarium with our iPads) and then we like the activity at night with the bars, casino, shows and hanging out with other like-minded people. Splurge for a veranda room or a Sky Suite in a quiet part of the ship. Celebrity is great.

We enjoyed our time on the Celebrity Millenium. Since you are worried about boredom, I will write about that. We were not bored as we enjoyed ports during the day, dining and the shows at night, and since I am a blackjack player, the casino was fine. Passengers were friendly and delightfully diverse, so I think you can socialize. There are things to do, and for a honeymoon it can be very romantic. However IMHO London would be way more exciting and would offer tons more diversions. Cost-wise, London is in the stratosphere, versus the very good buys one can find on a cruise. IMHO London versus cruising, very different options, both very appealing. I wish you two the best, a lovely wedding, and a happy holiday, whatever you choose.

Def celebrity! Great ships and good crowd. We always met younger people onboard. There are always people in their 20,30,40 onboard. Like the entertainment onboard too! Try to get an aft cabin. Is quiet with a big balcony. Enjoy!!
