What would you recommend we try for local cuisine - fast food and regular dining? Do you have places you prefer that are convenient for visitors staying in central Copenhagen?

How about places easy to get to via public transport away from Cemtral area?

Thank you for info. The pillow form is usually a foam pillow form that can be covered with needle work, fabric, or some other covering. I didn't want to carry them on the plane, and was hoping I could pick them up while in Copenhagen.

Danish Viking - I have spent the past 1 1/2 hours reading through this thread and making notes relevant to our visit next year. - THANK YOU!!

We visited in 2014 and did a free walking tour which was amazing. Then we took a canal trip. We were fortunate (or maybe not so fortunate from a local's perspective) to be staying in the city on the day of the finals of Eurovision, so the atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately, we had planned to visit one of the live sites that evening but it was pouring and very cold. So we went close by our hotel for dinner then headed back.

Now, thanks to this thread I am well prepared for what we can achieve on our short visit next year, including transportation from the airport, where to stay (cheaper than on our last visit) and transport to our cruise ship.

However, I may be testing you on this question. On our free walking tour, our guide took us to a café for a break, mid-tour. I'm not sure but it may have been close to the Hotel d'Angleterre (I remember him talking about the significance of that hotel!).

Our guide suggested a hot chocolate that the café is known for - a stick each of white, dark and milk chocolate with hot milk poured over. You swirl around the chocolate in the hot milk until it melts - DEVINE!

Any ideas where this café is? Name? I would really like to have another one while in your beautiful city. :) I don't think we were in Stroget, I seem to recall a square.

We are taking a cruise from Copenhagen in September and will be there 4 days before cruise and and 2 days after it. Was hoping you would know of a reasonable tour that we could take the first day we are in the city. Would like to get our bearings and see some of the sights 'the easy way' while we are a bit jet lagged if possible. Thank you and have a great day!

Awesome - thank you. I'll plan on eating at some of these. The Royal Smushi Cafe looks like a fun way to try a sampling a various smorrebrod - it says their signature dish - Smushi - is various sushi sized smorrebroads for you to try and then served on Royal Copenhagen porcelain with George Jensen cutlery.

Thank you so much for all your great information. I have a quick question. Our ship will be arriving at Oceankaj August 1. We are thinking of taking the bus to our hotel. You mentioned that we can get city passes at the hut in between terminals. Will there be a person we can buy these from so we can use our credit cards? If its a ticket machine, we only have chip and signature card, and I know it wont work in the machine.

You can however get the city pass on your mobile phone, just go to Citypass.dk

Another quick note, The Citypass is not the same as the Copenhagen Card.

Citypass is only transportation in zones 1 to 4.

So that's Copenhagen Frederiksberg and the Island of Amager where Ørestad, Christianshavn, Christiania and the airport is located.

Copenhagen Card covers transportation in the entire metropolitan area (Køge, Roskilde, Helsingør etc) plus free or reduced entrance to most sites.

An odd question. Are the battery size and voltages the same in Denmark as in the USA? We have a battery fan that we might bring with us and we were thinking we could buy backup batteries in CPH.

Our ship docks at Langelinie, and we were just going to take the Hop On Hop Off around once to get a feel for the city and then stop off at a few sights we'd like to see and maybe do Rick Steves' walk. BUT the HOHO (all of them, it appears) have received such horrible reviews lately (well, for the past 5 years, actually on Trip Advisor) that we think we need Plan B - would that be Bus #26? Can we purchase tickets at or near the pier? (Somewhere that can make change?) Is this the best option you think?

Yes, batteries are all the same. You can buy backup batteries in CPH. (I did this in both CPH and Tallinn).

I can second the free walking tour - we saw and learned so much more by walking with a local. He was incredibly entertaining too which was a double bonus.

Though I've never had a bad free walking tour in any city, the guides are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They need to be, of course, to hopefully receive a good tip.

Have you tried to contact the tour company, they surely know where it was.

I have never tried one of these busses so really can't tell whats up and down with them.

If you use journeyplanner.dk you can see what public busses or train you can use to get from a to b.

You can buy tickets at the busses but he/she probably doesn't takes larger note's like a 100 kroner.

The departure dock is near Langelinie, not far from the Little Mermaid. Arrival dock in Oslo is downtown, walking distance to hotels and sights. Tickets can be booked online, with choices of staterooms, meals, etc. We are doing the reverse route in two weeks and booked online at AFerry. Rates can vary with booking agency and chosen currency.

I have a question. We are staying at the Hilton changed to Clarion Hotel at the airport. I can see that it is indeed very close to the airport. Do you know if they have a shuttle from the airport to the hotel? Or Can we walk there from the airport?
