No, not at all. It is in fact terrible.

Yes at Kauai and I am sure on Maui too, but on Maui are you docking at Kahului or getting tendered in Lahaina?

If you are getting tendered into Lahaina then you can walk all over town. If you want to rent a car, there are a couple who will come get you and take you to the Kapalua Airport to get a car.

Driving is quite easy in Hawaii...so if you have a full day, a rental car is the way to go, if you're doing things on your own!

The only place where buses are good are on Oahu. Kauai and Maui are greatly lacking. :)

As others have said best to use a taxi or rent a car.

So if you are getting tendered to Lahaina, if you want to rent a car there are some car companies that will come get you and take you to Kapalua Airport to pick up your car.

If you are content to just see Lahaina, there is plenty to do and it is almost all walkable.

While public transportation is not good in general on Maui, it is good between Lahaina and Ka'anapali on the Kaanapali Islander route.

Renting a car for the day would be cheaper than the round trip cab fare.

A ball park in Hawaii for cab fare is $5/mile, it's about 6 miles, so budget $80 round trip, with tip, as a cushion.
