Sailing into Istanbul

I have heard that it is a beautiful sight if you are on deck when the ship sails into Istanbul. My itinerary says the ship docks at 7.00 a.m. What time would be the best time to be on deck?

Someone on the ship will give you the best advice.

It's going to be pretty early though, as the docking time refers to when you are able to leave the ship.

It is an amazing sight though.

And a beautiful sight too if you get a good sunset behind the Blue Mosque as you sail out - something else to make sure you see. The minarets and roof lines silhouetted against the red sky is very special.

You'll sail through the Dardanelles on the way to Istanbul. Thomsons give a talk on the war and it's really worth going to. You can quite easily see the monuments on the headland. Very interesting and moving. We were at Galipoli just as the sun set and it was absolutely beautiful.

I would want to be on deck by 6:00 as they often seem to arrive a tad early.

Must admit that one of my best memories (probably a bit fictitious now) was sailing through the Sea of Marmara when there was a fog,then a great sunrise, and there was the first glimpse of Istanbul -magic!

I would try to get out there as soon as you know it will be daylight.

yes agree...v moving ....should be more of these kind of commentaries during sailouts (instead of the 'dont forget to visit the shop to buy a watch' style announcements)

I would be on deck just before 6, I got great shots of the sun rise too
