Formal night - Men's shoe question

Okay, so my cruise is in a few weeks and I have a question about the formal night. While I do have a dress shirt and pants, I don't have dress shoes. If they're really nice, could I get away with regular shoes?

Absolutely. On Carnival Elegant Nights you will see people dressed in tuxedo's and formal gowns to men in slacks and golf shirts and women in cocktails dresses. They enforce on elegant nights no shorts or flip flops and sandals in the main dining room. All other nights are fine.

The last formal dinner night I wore a hawaiian shirt with a pair of slacks and black slip on tennis shoes.

Our son honestly forgot to pack his dress shoes on one cruise and I had him wear black socks with his suit since all he had wore flip flops and skater type sneakers. No one even noticed that he didn't have on shoes:eek:

We went to take pics and finally the photographer giggled because she noticed so we all kicked off our shoes, including his grandparents and we bought that photo. A great memory.

Wear what makes you comfy as long as you look nice.

I don't know that you need dress shoes per sé, but sneakers? People will notice and some of them will think you look silly, like a middle schooler at his first school dance whose mother doesn't give a damn. At least make sure they're black so they blend in a little better.

My husband will be wearing dark dress pants and dress shirt for formal night. Trying to save space in luggage and would love to avoid packing his big bulky dress shoes for something he would only be wearing for an hour or so.

He just got new dark brown sandals (not flip flops) tonight, and was wondering if it would be acceptable to Carnival if he wore them on formal night, with his dress pants and shirt. I know it would look crazy but they would only be seen for a few minutes. What do you think? I don't want to break any rules or get stopped at the door.

Those are fine ,you will have no problems. They look more at dress than shoes

I face the same dilemma - I dread packing and lugging around an extra set of clothes & shoes that are only going to be used for 1 hour on a 2 week vacation.

I'm also just bringing a pair of slacks and dress shirt (no coat), but I'm leaving my dress shoes at home and going with my dark sneakers. I won't lose any sleep if some of the tuxes look down their noses and are offended by my shoes.

I regret to inform you that your husband will be escorted immediately to walk the plank for wearing the wrong shoes.

Just kidding. This is Carnival. Have a good time. Nobody freaking cares. Dress nice, respect others and have the time of your life.
