Cheers program (pregnant wife)

You may be out of luck, but if you ask and show proof, aka Dr. note, that your wife is pregnant then there might be a loophole in the rules for that. I can see where having a spouse who is a non-drinker or a recovering alcoholic wouldn't apply because they have no proof or a doctor's note...

I would like to purchase this sometime, but as long as I cruise with DH, who doesn't drink, this will never happen. Although I would like to pay up front and just order without worrying about my bill-no way will I EVER make my drinking worth $800. So it's by the drink I go...;)

LOL, now that is funny. Have a spouse in AA and want to drink a lot in front of him..not OP But a few posts from the top. That's like telling a child not to touch that bag of candy while his friends are wolfing down....

Same here. DH very rarely drinks. Only way I would get this is if we booked two rooms with a child in each. Carnival has it on lock otherwise. They not trying to lose a dime in booze purchases.:p

I still do not understand their policy.

Once you hit the 15 drink limit you have to start paying for drinks. What difference does it make if one or two people are drinking from the card. 15 is 15 when it is hit, the card is out for the day.

I think you are on to something here 15 is 15 regardless who it is..

That's exactly what they don't want to happen: each of two guests enjoys 7-8 (which is a fair number), thereby maximizing the savings. That's much "easier" on the average person than one getting to 15 each day.

I am guessing most do not reach the 15 and Carnival makes out even more.

I would not purchase it even if my DH drank enough to make it worthwhile to him as well, which he never will. he prefers soda most of the time.

I don't like the 15 drink cut off. Now I know some will say if you drink more than that you have a problem but think about it.

2 bloody Mary's or mimosas in the morning.

4 drinks by the pool

3 glasses of wine at dinner

2 drinks at the show

4 drinks in the casino

You have reached the limit.

Considering this is stretched throughout the day from 7 am until 2 am you never get inebriated.

Still, DH may drink 3 drinks per day at most if he decides to drink at all, but if I decide to have just one more in the casino or one while playing bingo I would be cut off.

These are sea days. No way either of us could fit that many in on a port day unless we stay on the ship.

When I cruised with a friend on Royal, their package was $5 more per day. I didn't have to worry about being "cut off". It was truly unlimited. I don't know that we every drank 15 per day ( and probably not because the wine choices at dinner were terrible) but I do know that it was nice not having to figure that into the bill because it was prepaid. On Carnival, if you do any math, it isn't worth the price.

I don't know about that. I think most people DO reach the limit. At least from what I have observed. On my last Breeze cruise I encountered so many people from our M&G group who were so drunk by 2 or 3 in the afternoon it was ridiculous. They all had the Cheers program. Some of them didn't ever leave the ship. They just stayed and drank. I am sure they reached their 15 limit early but they were still drunk very late into the evening/morning. So I guess they were paying seperately after their 15.

I own liquor stores and I know how cheap it is to make mixed drinks. And since they buy in bulk they get an even better deal. On beer too. I am certain Carnival has about a 1000% mark-up on bottle beer. Probably about that much on mixed & frozen drinks too. Although mixed drinks usually have a higher % of profit.

Carnival isn't hurting in the drink category. They should ease up in certain situations involving the Cheers program. But, it's their business and they can run it as they wish.

PAY ATTENTION (for those who may not be aware):

The reason for 15 drink limit & 5 minute wait period is stop sharing!

YOU paid for YOUR drinks...By using YOUR card, THEY DID NOT PAY FOR THEIRS!!:(

The whole point of the package is to their (CCL) advantage, not to yours!:D

If I drank that much, I would be falling down drunk. That is more than I will drink in my entire cruise. Hence, I have no interest in Cheers. Most I every drink is 3 in a whole day on vacation. I'd rather just have a diet coke.

We don't typically take our first drink until sometime late in the afternoon (around getting ready for dinner time) - most likely that's poured from our personal stock provided by bon voyage or the casino. We usually enjoy a bottle of nice wine or champagne with dinner - something they likely wouldn't serve by the glass to begin with. A good portion of the evening is spent in the casino, where they typically cover drinks.

The Cheers program would not "work" for us.

Having said that, we've opted for the premium (alcohol) beverage package on Celebrity in the past, and did again for our Reflection sailing in January. Booking during a certain window earned us the "classic" package as part of the cruise fare. For something like $10/day we upgraded to the premium, which covers drinks up to $12 each. If a glass of wine or special cocktail costs $15, we just pay the $3 difference. Their classic package does not allow that feature, nor does Cheer's as I recall.

I would be sleeping thru dinner assuming I could even walk into the DR under my own power.

Could never hold that much and if I did would not make it to the second day.

wow we are all so different

... but she is allowing for 5 hours of sleep/non-drinking! :D

(misstopgun - just having fun. I understand what you're getting at regarding pacing yourself)

Aside from the fact that this is mixing too much stuff up in one day (recipe for calling earl IMO lol) this is still alot. I don't go into the casino, so where's room for those 4? I guess people do reach the limit but I sympathize in advance with any pregnant woman who has to potentially deal with a husband that's drank 15 of anything. :D

Would love to be the pregnant wife of a husband who had 15 drinks per day on a cruise.......

I would hope that he wouldn't hit that while wife is PG...

The good thing is that the break-even point is between 6-8 drinks, depending on what you order, even one more is a bonus!!
