Mandarin Orchard is on Orchard road near the Orchard MRT subway. We stayed in the Royal Plaza on Scotts, which is also in that area.

According to Booking, the Mandarin Orchard gets a 8.2 rating while Royal Plaza on Scotts gets a 8.5 rating. The Mandarin's prices are slightly higher than Royal Plaza's.

Looks like a nice hotel.

I found, when I researched hotels in Singapore that the hotels in the Orchard Road area tended to be about $175 per night as opposed to the downtown hotels that ran close to $300 per night. Taxis are cheap in Singapore and the MRT is easy to use, so staying downtown is just expensive.

Royal Plaza on Scotts is an independent hotel and not affiliated to any chain. So it has to work doubly hard and price itself competitively to get tourists. I think it is owned by the Sultan of Brunei (or his family).

The location is not bad and the hotel is well reviewed by all who have stayed there.

This video gives you an idea of what the area looks like.
