Our ship docks at 8 am. What would you suggest as earlier st tour to take to Alkatraz Island???

FYI: Tickets to Alcatraz (The Rock) sell out months in advance.

Sail-by Bay tours are a plenty.

Im thinking about time. 10 am?? Its not till end of Sept but i want to buy tickets asap. Just wondering if we will be able to get off ship quickly enough. When the say they dock at 8am is that what time we can get off ship or is there still customs to clear? Its an NCL ship so how far is the ferry to Alkatraz???

Is this a coastal coming down from Canada, where San Francisco is the first US stop? One time when we did that, the ship was at the dock for 3 hours before passengers were cleared to leave. A lot of people missed their early Alcatraz tours. We didn't have any set plans (we've visited San Francisco a lot) and I was so glad!

Last time i did this one, San Francisco was to be our 2nd US stop, but we were unable to dock in Astoria so in fact it was our first. We were off by 9. (2011) I HOPE WE GET OFF IN TIME!!!!!

Is it walkable from pier 27 (where ship docks) to pier 33 (to Alcatraz) ? Or is there a shuttle? TIA.

It is very walkable...totally flat, sidewalks.

How long it takes depends on you, and which pier...see above comments. 1 would say no more than 20 minutes, but again, depends on those variables.

We are also doing this but one issue is finding storage for luggage.

When I recently did a tour in San Diego, we found a nearby hotel to hold our luggage for us. The didn't charge for the service but of course gladly accepted a generous tip for the trouble. Call around and ask. Worth it imo
