Nausea Post Cruise

Recommended Posts

It WILL go away, but can take a couple weeks.....It won't happen every time you sail...but it can happen sometimes!

Did you take anything for the nausea on the ship? It's best to "nip it in the bud"...rather than let it get worse and worse!

Please do not post any medical advice without diagnosing the patient.

I don't get seasick, I get lands icky when I get back on Terra Firma. And this is from fishing trips. It usually is gone by day 3. So yes go to dr

Same here. Don't get sea sick, but get land sick. I'm wasted for the entire day when I get home.

cb could post "grass is generally green" and you guys would say she's wrong and ask if she's a botanist. It's getting ridiculous. If almost anyone else had posted what she posted no one would get on that person's case about it.

In MY case what cb said was true. The symptoms I had after our last cruise, which lasted for weeks, DID go away. And I didn't feel the need to see a doctor. It was annoying and difficult, but not an actual medical problem.

Unfortunately most of what cb posts is either inaccurate or misleading, not all but quite a lot of it. In this case she said it WILL go away and basically don't worry. For some it doesn't always go away and a doctor visit is warranted. I would rather have her posts corrected to allow others, sometimes first timers, to realize there is another side. If cb would ever come back to see the corrections maybe the incorrect information would stop, but it never appears she does as the same incorrect information is posted over and over again.

Good for you it wasn't a medical problem.

In the rare case it might be, seeing a professional can help.

My post cruise "land sickness" generally consists of being sick of having to carry keys and cash, exhaustion from making my own bed and meals, I grow increasingly pale over the weeks following a cruise, and (especially after sailing in the winter months) I experience extreme chills upon returning to my home in Buffalo, NY. I've found that the best cure for this post cruise sickness is going on another cruise.

I just want to preface by saying that I have been on 15 Royal Caribbean cruises thus far and have NEVER had an issue with seasickness. Sailed on Brilliance of the Seas over Thanksgiving to Cozumel. The seas were REALLY rough along the way, the boat was swaying significantly. Second day out at sea, I felt unwell all day and threw up that night (never happened before). Felt unwell the whole second day at sea. I have now returned, 4 days back at home and I still feel nauseous and unwell, worse in the mornings/evenings. I am extremely upset because I adore cruising but this has now made me reconsider ever sailing again. Google has heightened my anxiety after reading about Mal de Debarquement Syndrome, I am worried this wont go away. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice? :(

My niece was diagnosed with this syndrome after she saw a specialist. This occurred after her second cruise, and took over a year to resolve... needless to say she was uncomfortable at first, but gradually she learned to live with it and finally it went away... she is not afraid to cruise again, and is booked a cruise for the spring...

My daughter was also diagnosed with the syndrome, but it is treatable and she still cruises. Her neurologist was able to diagnose after ruling out Meniere's disease and other possible causes.

YOU ARE NOT A DOCTOR and have no business stating this.

How do you know they are not a doctor?? J/S..... and they didn't give any more advice about seasickness than anyone else on here does... they just asked if they took something..... geez....

Considering her obsession with sun tanning I would say the probability is high that she is not a doctor.

You really need to understand cb's posting history before you start defending them. cb has given a lot of bad and wrong information over their time on here. As I said previously, no one knows for sure if cb has ever cruised since no one has met them. I've met several cc members over the years as have a lot of us, especially those that post a lot. The consensus is that cb posts only to get their post count up and never comes back to defend any posts made. It's a lot of hit and run.

I also use "them" and "they" because no one knows for sure if cb is a she.

I used to get the land syndrome so bad that I would have to hold on to the wall at work to make it from my office to the restroom! The hallway would look as though it was swaying like a ship in rough seas. The symptoms would gradually lessen, but would last for about three weeks. Needless to say, I greatly feared that I would have to give up my cruising addiction.

I had never felt seasick while at sea so I had never taken medication on board. However on one cruise, I decided to try taking dramamine at nighttime. To my great surprise, I found that I didn't have any "landsickness" when I returned to shore. I now find that I don't even have to do that anymore. I seem to have outgrown the syndrome.

I can remember reading about mal du debarquement and noticing that there was a prime age group for females to experience symptoms. Perhaps I naturally "aged out". However, since this worked so well for me, I did want to share my experience.
