cruisenanny Posted October 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2011 We just got back from what was a great cruise overall & I will give you all the details over the next few days. I will do the bulk of the review tomorrow & Friday, but wanted to get it started tonight. WARNING!!! Lots of photos & food porn!! Please skip if you aren't interested. I'm including things in this review that I would have enjoyed seeing when waiting for my cruise and I hope most of you will like it too!! We hadn't sailed with Carnival in ten years & I am thrilled to say that OVERALL, we were impressed & our expectations were exceeded! We live in south Jersey & decided to park & take the Weehawkin ferry vs paying the $240 plus toll to park at the pier. Chris dropped me off to wait with our luggage while he went to park the car, YAY, our long awaited vacation is about to start!! From here I can see the ship across the river. The terminal was super easy to navigate & the ferry was $9 pp each way, for a total of $36 plus $90 to park for the 8 nights/9days. We also spent about $20 on taxis, but could have walked if we didn't have way too much luggage in tow! So overall we saved about $100 & had no hassle getting into the city. Would do this again. It was overcast all day, but the weather held for sail away. Here was our view from across the river, waiting to board the ferry.
cruisenanny Posted October 5, 2011 Author #2 Share Posted October 5, 2011 So we rode the ferry over to 39th st. & caught a cab to pier 88 at about 11 a.m.. Security check was quick, no one checked any of our carry on beverages. We were directed to the VIP lounge for check-in. It was very crowded & we waited awhile. Boarding had started by the time we were checked in, we missed it by maybe 10-15 minutes, so overall I'd say that was pretty good timing. I was sooo excited though, it was a loooong 10-15 minutes, lol Here is a pic I took in the VIP lounge area, it was SRO. Then we were quickly on board & headed for Horatio's. We had a lot in tow & wanted to get a nice seat for lunch & to wait until our room was ready. We got a great table by the window & this was the only other ship there with us that day.. cruisenanny Posted October 5, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted October 5, 2011 I was itching to explore, but as I said, we had a lot in tow (12 waters, 12 coke zeros & two bottles of champagne, plus a backpack & Chris's tux in a garment bag.) So we sat and took turns to go see what was for lunch. We were right by the grill & Chris LOVES hot dogs.. I must say, as hot dogs go, they really were VERY GOOD. And my lunch, also from the grill. It was all great until I flipped my burger over to put some mayo on it.. Uh oh!! lol it was a charred hockey puck! The chicken fingers were VERY good though, I DID NOT go hungry:p Since i din't get to eat my burger, I went to find this.. (like I wouldn't have anyhow, haha) The "fruit" cupcake was BAD, as others have reported. The other two things were YUMMM. Diet banana cake & a dulche de leche cheesecake. cruisenanny Posted October 5, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted October 5, 2011 Before we knew it it was time to go to our cabin. We had an OS midship on deck 6. There was TONS of storage & closet space. The room smelled like cigars & I was a little concerned, but it cleared very quickly & wasn't a problem. We met our steward Albert, who did a great job all week. Here's some room photos.. Delta Dear Posted October 5, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 5, 2011 Can't wait to read more. Albert was our steward when we were on the Miracle in Jan. to St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Kitts. It's like hearing an old friend's name. 10 days until we are heading to Bermuda on the Glory. I'm so happy that there are finally some reviews about Bermuda. Love the food porn !
