Why does NCL do AA meeting at Night?

We are fairly new to NCL going on our 3rd trip. Why does NCL do their AA meetings at night? The other cruise lines we have been on do their AA meetings in the morning so people in our party can go out to pay dinners, gamble (they may not drink but they like to have fun) etc...

Our family cruises together in a party of 10.

Couldn't get a straight answer out of NCL (they had lot's or excuses).

Why not arrange your own meeting, if you require another time?

I think they do the best they can. If they move it to the morning, then someone is going to complain that it is held to early or during breakfast hour, or when its time to get off the ship in port.

What sounds like a good time for you may be the worst time for someone else. So they just have to choose.

Looking back at my dailies from the POA the meetings were around 4pm. On the Stars dailies it appears around 3pm

I don't quite get what you mean by they "had a lot of excuses". I mean, there are probably a lot of people who appreciate that it is in the evening. I doubt that whoever you asked had any idea why the schedule is as it is--I mean why would they?? I mean why is yoga at 7AM? I totally support that you advocate with NCL for a time change. But to say that you can't get a straight answer or lots of excuses--I don't know--I don't get that.

Go to the first evening meeting and ask if anyone else would prefer to meet at a different, more convenient time and agree to hook up the next day at the new time. The meetings are very informal and the cruiseline really doesn't get more involved than making the venue available and letting people know when/where it will be. You only need two people.....

Thank you for all the feedback I will forward the advice. When I called NCL they keep transferring me to some else each time it was like they were fumbling on what to say... Really they didn't say much but here you guys have given some great ideas :)

Calling NCL on a ship's specific agenda of shipboard activities is a waste of time. The Cruise Director pretty much dictates the day-to-day schedule. In addition to the helpful hints already given, my advice is to talk to the Cruise Director.

I know that many people rely on the meetings, so please be thankful that the cruise lines organizes the meetings in the first place... they certainly do not have to.

As far as the time is concerned, as another poster wrote, if you don't like the time, then make your own meeting, or go to the first one and propose a new time for follow-up meetings.

That's definitely your call to make, but keep in mind that what's convenient to one is certainly inconvenient to another. You're on a floating resort with thousands of other people who have their own times that they prefer to eat, swim, sun, shower, exercise, sleep, dance, etc. There's no way in the world to set a schedule of events that works to every pax's liking. Hope you enjoy the flexibility and customer appreciation of RCCL.... :rolleyes:

Wow. I would have appreciated any company that were considerate enough to even offer a time and venue. It has nothing to do with "convenience of their customers" and all to do with offering their customers something that may be appreciated by a certain group of people. Sorry but your post comes off as real entitlement.

As others have stated NCL corporate does not arrange for any ship board activities and there they were probably trying to find someone that may have a more direct answer to the possibility of why this may be held then.

Here's an idea, maybe AA meetings are needed more at night. Most of the people I have known involved in AA over the years attend night meetings. There may be a concept to that way of thinking. Just saying, I have no actual knowledge of that being a fact. :)

I have no knowledge of how an AA meeting lasts, but is this an event that lasts several hours?

If so then I can see how it might interupt some plans, but if it only last an hour or so, how hard is that to work around?

There are usually two shows 7:30 and 9:30, dinner is served in the restaurants until 9 or 10 (not sure exactly what time), and isn't the casino pretty much open all night (or at least until the wee hours).

If the meetings are at night (don't have a Freestyle daily handy), are they during the cocktail hour? If so, wouldn't that be the ideal time to have it?

And I don't know about anyone else, but during the day we are usually in port on an excursion. Sea days would be another story.

I know we have gone up to the Star Bar for drinks before dinner and it has been closed for an AA meeting, as a matter of fact on one cruise we never even got to see the Star Bar because it was always closed.

I just not sure what the complaint was about and if it was worth changing cruises for.

I find it amazing that someone that books 8 rooms for the cruise, 4 suites and 4 balconies would cancel because the AA meetings are at 6PM. They say they have sailed with NCL 3 times with this same group and now the meeting time is a problem? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Hope they enjoy RCCL. I guess RCCL arranges their ships schedule for each guest?:eek:

As previously pointed out, the daily schedules are set by the Cruise Director, at least on NCL. I'm pretty sure that's the case on other lines. I don't think the scheduling for this type of activity is set in stone.

Plus, I've been on numerous NCL cruises and I can state with certainty that their AA meetings are NOT always scheduled at night. I've seen them in the Freestyle Dailys at all different times of the day. I'm not sure where the OP is getting the idea that they are always scheduled at night.

Actually, the guarantee is that they won't schedule a meeting at all! On Royal and their other brands (Celebrity and Azamara) it is up to individuals to put a meeting together and post it on a bulletin board located by the reception desk.

Wow - sorry for the inconvenience that you feel you may have encountered with NCL. Sounds like you have a bit of a sense of entitlement. An AA meeting is certainly not the responsibility of any cruise line - only the responsibility of the attender and if you feel that NCL is not "doing their job" by accommodating the passengers whom would utilize this 'bonus', then it may be a good thing for you to switch lines. Have fun wherever you may end up.

OP - Have you checked with all the RCCL ships to see that the meetings would held when you wanted them to? Before you go canceling your cruise you might see if you can find people with the different dailies.

Nothing says that just because it is offered at 8 am this time of year, it will be offered at 8 am when you sail.

Just a thought. Wish you all the best and it does give everyone to something to think about.

Wouldn't the meet times also depend on whether it is a sea or port day.

Friends of Bill aren't the only group on the ship - tour groups need rooms - bridge players want a room - cigar smokers want a room - Friends of Dorothy want a room - religious groups want a room.

I am sorry about that, I really didn't pay that close attention, all I remember is that there were meetings in the Star Bar every night. I am old and this was 5 years ago, memory is not what it should be.
