I was on same cruise and you are so right,Casino smoke was worst of any of my cruises and Rodney stunk!

I have noted that there is only two places to smoke on the magic.

Deck 5 outside /Casino and Deck 11 AFT. This is a larger ship and has a lot of people but it seems smoking is limited to two smaller areas.

My Question is can you access deck 5 forward and aft from another deck without passing through the casino. I also see that Lido is smoke free which i am good with. The remainder of the ship is a smoke free area, so there is lots of places for a non smoker to hang out. Also I think that smoking has been in casinos for as long as I can remember so most people will expect that. Sailing on the Magic in 18 days. Thanks for the info

...............

We had the Cheers Package and a Deck 9 Forward Inside Cabin. Which was great we were 2 doors away from access to the open deck right on top of the bridge wing.

..........

tpmartin,

Did you happen to notice if there were any lounge chairs out on the front decks? I know they have them on some ships, but of the pics of Magic that I have seen only very few show any lounge chairs. Our cabins are on deck 11 so we'll be two decks above, but maybe you saw some?

Thanks for the updated info. I see outside seating on Deck 5 10 11 12 15 if I am looking at the plans correctly.

It seems that smoking is allowed on 5 and 11 but not on deck 10 12 and 15. So Carnival is being fair with the ratio from Smoking and non smoking areas. I have smoked in the past and also quit so i can see both sides to this equation.

I would think that Carnival would lose out in the end if an entire ship became non smoking. We can have people say that not allowing smoking on Lido isn't fair and other say they cant walk thru deck 5 without needing a shower. I say to each there own. If we know up front about the entire situation then we can plan our vacation accordingly. I will be chilling all over the ship with drink in hand. Vacation is almost here.

Fairness is pretty subjective. If you measure it based on the percentage of square feet of shipboard public space devoted to smoking compared to the percentage of passenger-minutes spent smoking you will get a very different result as compared to if you measure it based on the percentage of square feet of total shipboard space devoted to smoking compared to the percentage of passengers who will smoke at least one cigarette during the voyage. As such, I think Carnival is being practical more so than fair, especially since they updated the areas set aside for smoking since the introduction, the intention seemingly being to provide enough space without spurring on transgression on the basis that there is not enough room in those designated areas.

We were on Deck 11 Paul (11228) and there was nto any seating except two benches. As it is the top "secret" deck, it was also VERY windy. I almost lost a hat!

We were on the Magic in December as well as this sailing - this sailing felt more smokey. I really think there may have been some problems with the ventilation system on our sailing - we had no problems with the smoke in December. It just seemed a lot stronger than we remembered in December. I'm not advocating for removing any smoking area, I actually think they are well placed on this ship. Again, I just think it was a ventilation issue. :)

No one special they had 2 and,I can't remember their name as they just didn't stand out.

Plus the room is so small you have to get tickets 40 mins in advance to see the show

Wait, you have to get tickets for the comedy club now? Where do you get tickets?

You go to the Vibe Night Club where they will give you a ticket, you will also hang out there until they are ready to seat you in the comedy club. What's good about this is there are no lines in the passage way which is nice when your trying to walk through.

We sailed Magic in January and stinking cigarette smell permeated the area in and all around the casino area. It was not just your sailing. Our clothes reeked of the smell just walking near it. The barbeque place is close by so alot of people get their food and come in to tables to eat and the smell makes for a horrible lunchtime. Carnival seems to ignore the problem. They need to reconsider that nonsmoking ship idea again. The times have changed.

I agree,

Smoking should be on a outdoor deck that can air out.

Smoke absorbs into the carpet and fabrics which is everywhere in that area.

Smoking in casinos in Atlantic City is prohibited, why don't they do that on Carnival

Paul, when are you sailing? Are you going to write a review? The Magic is a great ship with a great crew.

tlw440,

We sail July 8.

I'm not sure yet about doing a review. If I get everything organized and time allows afterwards...

We're really looking forward to Magic; we'll have all three boys with us on this one so a review will be more likely.

So curious since it seems as if this has changed since our last Magic cruise, what time did you go to get these "tickets" for comedy club? Will admit it was congested waiting in line and standing in the piano bar area. Guess there were complaints about that one. But jw how far in advance you went to get the tickets prior to showtime? We love the comedy shows, so thanks for the heads up about this change.
