Canada Customs/Imigration

Recommended Posts

We will be departing from Seattle for a 10 day Alaska cruise, disembarking in Vancouver. Will we go through Canadian Customs/Immigration in Seattle or will it be in Vancouver after disembarking? Will we do anything prior to Victoria which is our first Canadian port? On our last Seattle roundtrip cruise we did customs forms prior to Victoria. Also, when we did one our one-way cruise, we went through US Immigration before embarking in Vancouver and disembarking in Whittier. Just confused

Thanks.

You will go thru a very cursory CBSA routine showing photo ID or passports in Victoria. The completing and handing in of declaration forms seems to vary, but yes it may well be done in Victoria. The full blown CBSA clearance will occur in Vancouver as you disembark at Canada Place.

We disembarked in Vancouver on May 14 after a 19 day Panama Canal Cruise. The ship and passengers cleared Canada Customs in Victoria . No physical face to face interview. On arriving in Vancouver , we just walked thru the terminal and no customs check. The same thing happened last Sept on the Solstice after a stop in Victoria and Naniamo. The other two ships from Alaska hadn't even started disembarkation when we started disembarkation.

We just returned from a cruise that began at a USA port with its next to last stop in Victoria and final stop in Vancouver.

A couple of days prior to our stop in Victoria we filled out a Canadian customs form. Very simple and then turned that into the front desk. We didn't have to do anything else and we didn't show any photo. Maybe the cruise line did that but we didn't.

After we got off the ship in Vancouver we went to Vancouver airport.

We checked in at the ticket counter, walked over to another area where we turned in our checked luggage, went through airport security and then went through USA customs/immigration.

Get to the airport early.

We had the same experience as Kamloops and Keith. We embarked in Vancouver, cruised to Hawaii and cleared customs in Victoria. When we disembarked in Vancouver, we just walked off the ship, got our luggage and went to the buses for our transfer to the airport.

I agree with the other poster who said

Vancouver's airport is extremely busy as it handles all the Asian traffic as well as the flights to the rest of Canada and south to the U.S. Our two main Canadian airlines alone, Westjet and Air Canada have flights arriving and departing almost hourly.

Our last Alaska cruise we boarded & disembarked in Seattle but there was a stop in Victoria. We walked off the ship and right past the customs office and no one asked us anything.

We just disembarked in Vancovuer after a Hawaii to Vancouver cruise and as we left the ship we collected our luggage then turned our completed customs declaration forms into a customs officer and kept right on walking...easy peassy!
