Venice Hotel Recommendations

Hi,

We know that staying in Venice can be very expensive, but we heard that there are people who stay a few miles outside of the city and still can take the bus into the city and enjoy the city.

Could you please recommend a reasonable hotel (approx $150 per night)?

Thank you.

Danny

We have just returned from a cruise from Venice. We would not hesitate in suggesting and recommending an excellent family run hotel / b&b called Cai De Polo - it was, for us, just fabulous. It's near Piazzale Roma, a few minutes walk. Close to restaurants and an easy (sorry, no walking in Venice is easy) walk into the Rialto Bridge and San Marco.

Check out Tripadvisor for the reviews...

Thank you. I have just email the hotel because the dates haven't been release yet.

You are probably thinking of the town of Mestre, which is the last town on the mainland before crossing the causeway into Venice.

A bus or train from Mestre to Venice is about 10 minutes and under 5E.

And there's an ATVO express bus that runs from the airport to Mestre, assuming you arriving by air. 15 minutes, 7E

There are hotels for about $150 in Venice, but it depends on your requirements. Can you easily manage your luggage for a few blocks and over a couple of bridges? do you need an elevator? private bathroom?

ie Hotel Santa Lucia near the Venice train station or Locanda Salieri near Piazalle Roma.

Piazzale Roma is the last point of land travel in Venice so it's where buses, cars, taxis drop off their passengers. It's a convenient area for 'cruisers' to stay because you can take the People Mover to the pier ( if you can manage your luggage easily) and it's only a block to the Grand Canal for sightseeing.

The time of your travel can raise the rate you will pay. When we were planning (approx. 18 months out) prices were reasonable. As we got closer to our cruise (approx. 9 months out) prices had risen considerably.

Check out Hotel Tritone & Best Western Hotel Bologna (both in Mestre) a short bus or train ride to Venice proper.

As another poster stated Hotel Arlecchino and Best Western Hotel Olympia are two good possibilities too (close to Piazzale Roma).

Rates I found were in the $150-160 range for a double. Good luck and have a great trip!

This is a good one in Mestre - Hotel Venezia, Piazza 27 Ottobre, Angolo vis Teatro, 30171 Mestre. The restaurant here is one of the best we have come across in a hotel. Rooms are comfy and you can buy your bus tickets etc at reception. The bus stop is only a few minutes away.

If you prefer to stay in Venice itself we can recommend Hotel Monte Carlo which is a Best Western just a minute or two from St Marks Square.

I, too, would recommend the Best Western Hotel Bologna in Mestre. It's right across the street from the train station where you would catch the train or bus to take you to Venice. We've found the bus to be more convenient, especially for the trip back to Mestre. Also, the bus ride is free if you're holding an active vaporetto pass. Train and vaporetto tickets are available for purchase at the hotel's front desk.

The rooms at Best Western Hotel Bologna are quite large by European standards and a buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. If you''re staying more than a few days, book through the hotel's website for special deals.

Lawyers use a term in court called "asked and answered." A quick search for "Venice Hotels" on this forum gets 497 hits...and quite a few of them are in the past few months.

Hi Hank...

You've been on these boards long enough to know everyday is Ground Hog Day...

My daughter just booked the Hotel Arleccino up near the railway station only 2 bridge to cross.:)

I've stayed 2 nights at the Arlecchino. We took a bus from the airport to the Piazzle Roma. Then it is one small bridge to the hotel. Highly recommend it.
