Ashland Posted July 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2017 going out on Oasis August 20th, wasn't sure if any "deals" are offered onboard vs buying aheadThanks! Usually best to purchase before you board...however...if you find a better deal once onboard cancel and you'll receive OBC for your pre-purchase. TonyL128 Posted July 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2017 It's always cheaper to buy before your cruise. Sometime you can get "drink & stream" special before cruise too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ourusualbeach Posted July 25, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 25, 2017 It depends on whether you want surf and stream or just surf. Pre cruise you are purchasing surf and stream and you cannot use any C&A discounts. On board you can purchase surf only for about the same as surf and stream was pre cruise and you get to use your C&A discounts making it cheaper to purchase on board. Biker19 Posted July 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 25, 2017 Let's see - pre cruise it's $14.39 but on the ship it's $12.99 - by my math that says it cheaper on board.
TonyL128 Posted July 25, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2017 $12.99 is the "surf" package. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Biker19 Posted July 25, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2017 $12.99 is the "surf" package. So? For most uses and users, there's negligible performance diff between the two tiers. Now, if RCI somehow tiered latency, that would be a different matter.
TonyL128 Posted July 25, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2017 When you are on a ship with thousands of people and most are now on their smartphone, when you start off slow, you will get even slower. On our last cruise, two weeks ago on Harmony, our "Stream" package never got above 2Mbps in our cabin. And satellite latency is long to start off with; our average latency was 200+ ms. Biker19 Posted July 25, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2017 And satellite latency is long to start off with; our average latency was 200+ ms. I would take that and pay extra any day over the 600+ ms latency of ships without O3B.
Rare OCSC Mike Posted July 25, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 25, 2017 Surf was good enough for everything except streaming live TV (including Facetime/Skype) on both my Oasis cruises this Summer. As has been posted (especially if you're Diamond or above), Surf on board is usually the better deal (and much better if you can skip a half day here and there to maximize the value of your Diamond discount). chrob Posted March 5, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 5, 2018 What is the difference between "surf" and "surf & stream"? Can you still check emails, send texts etc with surf only?
Biker19 Posted March 5, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Up to .5 Mbps download speed vs up to 4 Mbps. Yes.
robtulipe Posted March 5, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 5, 2018 On Anthem this past January we used one of our D+ credits to get two Surf only 24 hour periods early in the cruise and the other to get a 3 days Stream and Surf package at the end of the cruise since this was being offered as a special so we got this at no cost with the D+ credit. I actually found the Stream and Surf to be inferior speed wise likely because many more people were using the internet for the last 3 days because of that special offer.
