My opinion of the Cable Beach day pass

Just thought I would put my two cents in here, as we just returned from the Allure of the Seas. Off the ship, we took the advice of a local at the Information Desk and went to the Wyndham on Cable Beach. I have also done research on these boards regarding the best day pass in Nassau.

We caught a cab by ourselves (no ship excursion), 6 of us. I think it was 5 bucks apiece for the 15 minute ride to Cable beach, where we went to the Wyndham, based on a recommendation by the information desk in port. Cable Beach is gorgeous, but DO NOT go to the Wyndham! I do not know what anyone sees in this place. It was only $20 per person, but the hotel lobby is the most horrible place I think I have ever seen! In gross need of painting and updating, it smells like a combination of mildew and smoke (casino right there), and has sort of macabre, creepy Junkanoo masks that are filthy throughout the lobby. It kind of reminded me of a bad Twilight Zone episode - very nightmarish! I mean, if you put a blindfold on, and walk through to the beach, you're OK. But once outside, the beach is beautiful and you can use the lounge chairs and such, but there is absolutely NO sign of hotel staff. The pool bar is closed. The pool is open and refreshingly chilly! But NO place to get either a drink, or a snack. Chipped and cracked concrete around the grounds. I have no idea what the rooms were like but if I booked there for a week, I would run away screaming:eek: You are better off at the Melia next door. Lots of activity, food, active bar, music. You know, the things you expect at a tropical resort. Anyway, we were only there about 2 hours, so it didn't matter much. I think the Melia is much pricier, too, which considering the very brief time we had there, was not worth it. I would definitely go to Cable Beach again, but choose a much nicer hotel. We saw Breezes on the way back, too late.

Melia is only $10 more, and worth it. The last time we did a day pass in the Bahamas was 6 years ago, and we went to the Sheraton. We walked over to the Wyndham, used the water slide, and then walked on back to the Sheraton.

Thanks for in the info! I've been searching these forums for more current reviews of a day pass in Nassau. I kept getting posts from 2012 and prices listed from $10pp -$30pp/ taxes from $5-$15 pp.

So my understanding is (as of this year) $5pp taxi rides, $25pp day pass at Sheraton?

We will be going to Freeport/Nassau in mid May 8am-5pm both ports. This sounds like a great option compared to some of the excursions offered. We took a cruise back in April 2012. We did the dolphin encounter in Freeport and didn't have anything planned in Nassau. When we got to Nassau we were asked by one of the taxi drivers if we wanted to take a tour and shop. That was an experience we will never forget- not bad just different.

Any thoughts on a day pass in Freeport? I've read the Radisson offers days passes. Is it worth it and how much?
