Montego, Jamaica, Margaritaville feedback wanted

Has anyone here visited the Margaritaville in Montego?

I'm looking for advice on available taxis at the pier if we do not book an excursion.

Also, I would like to know how the transportation works if you are on a Carnival excursion and opt to be dropped off at Margaritaville on the way back to the ship. Are you on your own, or does Carnival offer transportation to and from throughout the day?

Thank you!

There are lots of taxis at the pier and will take you to the "hip strip" where Margaretville is as well as lots of shops. There's a board at the taxi stand that tells the amount that's charged for specific destinations. Be sure to confirm what the charge will be before you get in the cab. There's also a beach right off the hip strip that charges a nominal fee but folks that have gone there seem to like.

We bought our souvenirs and tee-shirts then went to Buffet's place for lunch and good cold Caribe Beer. It was lots of fun - they have a party going on :D

Believe the taxi is $ 7 pp each way.

We tried to go there two weeks ago. Got there about 10 am and it was closed. No sign indicating when it would be opened.

Walked down the block and asked several other stores when they would open and got different times.

Than we saw a fellow with tourist uniform and asked him and got another answer.

Therefore we asked 5 people and got 5 different answers. We do know their property is not along the beach just have a pool.

As a result went to DR ___ Beach which is right there. $ 6 pp for admission and 6 pp for chairs. Spent a nice few hours there and was even offered a few illegal substances while there.

We hit Margaretaville a few years ago and had a nice afternoon there. Had drinks and lunch, sat on the deck overlooking the bay.Watched the catamarans from the resorts come and go, the kids using the water toys, and parasailers go by.The excursion we took dropped us off by the beach, just down the street. The excursion bus picked us up in front of Margaretaville at a pre planned time for the ride back to the ship. It gets crowded on the street and beware of the people trying to sell illicit items to you. Its done right out in the open.

Beyond what others have said, the only thing I was going to add was something like this. Our last time in Mo Bay at Margaritaville, we were on an excursion and the van driver dropped us off and waited for us then drove us back to the port. There were more than a few sketchy looking individuals on the street right outside Margaritaville and we were glad we had a driver waiting for us. ;)

Are you talking about Margaritaville in Montego Bay? While it's not on a beach (sand) it is oceanfront and on the water. There is actually a large waterslide into the ocean. FUN! They have a nice swimming/water toy area in the water as well. There is no pool at this location....well, one giant one called the Caribbean Sea. We've gone around noon and it was hopping! Stayed for a few hours and will go back again someday.

Just be ready to pay through the nose. It's a great place, but not somewhere to spend the entire day. Highly recommend Doctors Cave beach... Cheap, beautiful, etc. not too far from Margaritaville if you want to wrap up the day there. Not a beach, but great water toys and slide for the kids.
