Cabin Upgrade/Onboard Credit (Norwegian)

Hi All,

I am a newbie on this site! I booked a cruise for December and I see the price has decreased dramatically in every cabin category. My oceanview cabin price is now less than the Balcony Cabin. We are mid-ship deck 5. My travel agent said my cousin and I should just stick to that cabin because its in a good spot. I was wondering if I should at least ask for on board credit or an upgrade to the balcony since it is much less than my oceanview? This will be my third strip w/ Norwegian. Thoughts, opinions and stories welcome. Thank you so much.:)

Your travel agent is lazy, have them call and get you upgraded. (Since you booked with a TA, NCL will not deal with you, only your TA). In the future, find yourself a new travel agent or book direct yourself.

I would much prefer a balcony in any location to an ocean view. Would def insist they call and get you upgraded. I've never had a TA resist calling for something, most of them are happy to make you happy to keep your business.

Definitely, contact your TA and tell her you want to get the upgrade!! We had a family balcony and were upgraded to a family mini-suite with balcony! Had to deal with our TA who told me we were not eligible as we were paid in full! NCL told me we could get the upgrade!!!

I am not a newbie to this site, but I am to booking and cruising with NCL. We are in the process of booking an interior room for next summer out of Southampton for a Norwegian Fjord cruise. I was also wondering how any price drops worked. So it sounds like if the price of our cruise drops, I can either ask for an upgrade to a higher category(Ov or higher depending on the price drop) or could I also get OBC for the difference??

They do not always offer an OBC and if they do it's only a partial amount.

So then I guess it is better to get an upgrade if the drop is equivalent to the upgrade price??

I am used to OBC with Carnival when a price drops occurs. I don't always want/need an upgrade and the OBC is better for us.

I am just trying to learn the ways that NCL differs in this area. Thanks!

Before final payment is due, you can cancel and rebook with the lower price or higher category. After final payment, it depends. You can always call and ask. NCL does not have the early saver rate that Carnival does where you can get OBC for price drops up until the day before you sail. I don't think any other cruise line has such a program.

Carnival might have that program, but what many forget is it comes with a price so to speak. Carnival's deposits under that program are NON Refundable.

Norwegian will generally work with you or your agent after final payment. Most often they will offer an upgrade, sometimes with a small cost, other times just move you to the better category if you want.

I have seen small token OBC amounts given, but upgrading is a bit more prevelant

Since you booked with TA ,they would have to make any changes. Does not appear they want to be bothered. One reason I always book directly with cruise line. I am then in charge of my reservation.

I nowadays always use a TA and am in charge of my reservation - and in addition I always get about 10% better deal than by booking direct.

TA gets paid from the commission based on my actual and continued business, customer reps (PCCs) at NCL are paid anyway no matter your happiness or the lack of future bookings.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I reached out to my TA because I saw that the prices to my cruise decreased. She told me she was emailing NCL and for me to call her yesterday evening to see what happened. When I called her, someone said she was on the phone with a bridal party. Called her today and was told she went to lunch. Well, I went on NCL and all the cabins prices had increased. Just got off the site and now the all the cabins are sold out. Not dealing w/ her anymore. All I was looking for was an upgrade or obc.

Yeah, you def need a new TA. Did u save any screen shots of the decreased price? I'd call the company back and ask for a manager, explain the situation and see if they are willing to offer you anything to make it right.

I saw a price decrease once on a celebrity cruise around midnight. It allowed us to move from an obstructed view balcony to a non obstructed view balcony and save about $100 pp, (this was before final payment). Called TA and left a message. Never heard back so checked the website later that day and the price had gone back up. Was bummed until I called the agency back and spoke to a supervisor. He said agent was busy but had worked on my booking and was able to move us to the un-obstructed view and save us $260 pp!!!
