drsel Posted October 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) Dear Experts & experienced cruisers (boy, would I love to be in your shoes !!) 1) Can I use my Non refundable OBC on Celebrity to book a future cruise onboard Celebrity ? 2) Kindly rank ALL the options to spend non refundable OBC on Celebrity & Royal Caribbean, according to BEST VALUE. Thanks, drsel Edited October 26, 2016 by drsel
gizvic Posted October 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) I don't know about booking onboard, but I would suggest that the best value would come from using the credit for things you would otherwise have spent money on anyway. For example: -paying gratuities -upgrading a beverage package -going on a shore excursion Have a wonderful trip! leaveitallbehind Posted October 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) Your OBC will automatically be applied to your on board account for all expenditures made - it cannot be used selectively. Therefore there is no "best ranking" by value as it is equally applied to all as each is charged. For example if you have a $100 OBC and spend $200, your net end of cruise bill will be $100. Keep in mind that with the exception of the casino the ship is cashless and all purchases are charged directly to your stateroom account. Your room key card, which is also your ship ID, also acts as a credit card. Anything purchased is automatically charged to that account and any OBC is applied directly against those charges. If it is as you indicate non-refundable, that means it is cruise line sponsored and if you do not use it all there is no remaining cash value back to you. As it is ship sponsored, I don't believe it can be used for future bookings as that booking is a newly created account which requires a credit card for the deposit. CHEZMARYLOU Posted October 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2016 We cruise exclusively with Celebrity and the ship board credit cannot be used as a deposit on a future cruise booking. There are also restrictions on withdrawing it in the casino, for example you will get promotional chips that cannot be cashed in for cash. There are always a lot of discussions about ship board credit on the Celebrity boards found here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
marco Posted October 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2016 Best Value" is what you think is the best value, but as above posters have stated, any and everything you "purchase" onboard is just billed to your room account and your OBC is credited as you go. Use the OBC for beverages, specialty dining, excursions, gratuities, photos, gift shop, internet, spa....... and there's probably other options as well,
candycaramel Posted October 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 26, 2016 I like to spend my OBC at the spa.
MCC retired Posted October 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 26, 2016 Onboard OBC can not be used for a Future Cruise Deposit or Future Cruise Booking on any cruise line that I am aware of. I generally get a nice OBC from my TA and the Cruise Line promotion , Share Holder , or Military (like PCL & Cunard) and never have a problem spending it all onboard. dread_pirate Posted October 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2016 You also cannot charge your Future Cruise back to your onboard account. You need to have your credit card available to get the FCC.
drsel Posted October 26, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted October 26, 2016 If we use the NR OBC to buy promo chips for the casino tables, will the pit boss charge 5% service fees for the amount of NR OBC converted to promo chips or on the winnings encashed? (winnings may be much less than the promo chips used to play at the tables)

We have done this on another line, Princess, had a cruised already booked, decided to cancel it and use the booking credit to book something else while on board... did so without any problem. leaveitallbehind Posted October 27, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) That is just transferring a deposit from 1 ship to another, not using OBC As others as well have answered you cannot us your NR OBC to book a future cruise as that creates a separate account requiring a credit card deposit. As to the casino charge, when you withdraw the cash in the casino the 5% is charged at that time, not on your winnings. Thanks, So, to get $100 worth of promo chips, I will be charged $105 from my NR OBC balance, right? When I gamble the $100 promo chips on the tables, whatever I win will be converted to cash at par, without any service charge, right? In case I convert $105 NR OBC to $100 slot credit, will I get a SEPARATE slot card (to insert into the slot machine) showing the $100 slot credit? Or, will it show on my Sea Pass as slot credit? (and I have to insert the Sea Pass into the slot machine?)
