Which would you choose? RC Majesty or Carnival Elation

We are looking to possibly book a short cruise with another couple that has never cruised before. Trying to keep costs down.

We are considering the RC Majesty (4 days) to the Bahamas or Carnival Elation (5 days) to the Bahamas. I know that both ships are older so thinking that my cross each other out.

The difference in price is about $50 more for the Elation (comparing inside to inside and OV to OV cabins on each ship) but we would get an extra day.

The other couples husband is somewhat of a big drinker so we need to factor in the Beverage packages. On Carnival, both people in the cabin need to purchase the Cheers package where on RC, only 1 person needs to purchase it.

Thoughts??

I have not cruised on the Majesty, but have on the Elation....Elation is a GREAT ship....I will say, I don't get the mindset of "I only sail newer, bigger ships", makes no sense to me, but some people do have their idiosyncrasies, ,so whatever....The Elation had really good food, GREAT entertainment, and overall it was a great trip for us

I've been on Majesty twice and Elation once. Both were very enjoyable. I did slightly prefer RCCL overall and their attentiveness. However Elation I found to be a bit more fun. Elation also had bigger staterooms (you will have a hard time finding smaller rooms anywhere than Majesty!)

Given your pricing, I'd probably go Elation. Not sure there is a bad choice here though.

The RCCL ship may have smaller cabins. I do not think you can do wrong....I just loved my cruise on the Paradise sister Fantasy Class ship to Elation..love idea of one more day for you....that might make up for 2 people buying the drink package..and maybe they would anyway,...nothing like as long as possible..I swear I will not go less than 7 days next time unless there is some other fancy add on land plan...and even then...I hope not lol.

Both should be fine..equal different strengths and weaknesses on a little older smaller ship and the strength for me is they have gone so behemoth in mass market ships...and they are wonderful I am sure...(largest I have been on is Star Princess)... the food on the smaller ships has a chance to be better..less people etc. adds to that and service...RCCL may be slightly fancier but they both are older mass market...so I would go for outside cabin if possible and 5 day...let them have fun of seeing water...if not expecting major seasick issues..Bon Voyage.

Just returned from the Elation.

Hits :

The female piano bar singer, just wow ! WOW what a voice.

Comedy ,Best I've enjoyed on any ship. Fantasy class ships have plenty of room for passengers to sit. Exception with one ship where they remolded and closed off half and used it for something else ( cant remember what ship ).

Karaoke , funny and enjoyable.

Misses

The Food ,exception did not visit the MDR

Lido Aft and Forward tables were not cleaned ,

left piled high... Worse I have seen on any ship.

You will have to clean a table if your wanting a place to sit for Dinner.

Replacing tile on Lido Aft of the ship. loud banging while your eating Breakfast , not my cup of tea

Elation is a training ship, expect slower service.

Casino band could not stay long enough to enjoy, smokers rule here.

Rude pushy people, not spring breakers just a noticeable crowd.

Majesty would be my pick.

Let me preface by saying I have not sailed on a Fantasy class ship. Ive seen plenty of pics though and read the reviews of ALL Fantasy ships and I would choose Majesty every time. Ive sailed on Majesty's older sister ship Monarch and it was a great cruise. If you can get a deck 9 Superior Oceanview cabin, they arent bad at all and Majesty is said to have one of the best crews Royal has on ANY ship. There is no doubt in my mind which one i would pick here and Im not even very keen on RC right now.

Actually now changing my mind. I found the Carnival Liberty offers the 4 day out of Port Canaveral. The RC majesty of the Seas is an older ship. If I am going to choose a 4 day, I might as well take a newer ship. On to compare prices.

I have sailed the Majesty and don't plan to do that again. The smallest Carnival class I have sailed is Conquest so I can't compare exactly. I do know that with Carnival you will have more cabin space and more fun. The food between RC and Carnival is mostly a wash but I think leans towards Carnivals favor because of the non fee extras. Adding that you would have an extra day I have to vote for Carnival. One thing about first time cruisers that I think you should consider is that it's really difficult to get a fair picture of cruising and the whole ship board culture in a short cruise. I'd take the longer cruise on Elation.

Editing because I saw your update . I think it be worth it to go with Liberty =)

Elation will go into drydock and add the 2.0 upgrades. I think Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana, Waterpark etc. is being added. I think I would go with Elation and the five days.

Also, if Majesty of the Seas is going to Coco Cay, then you have a beautiful beach day added, plus you can use your beverage package on the island.

Yes, The elation will be going into dry dock in September so it should be nicely upgraded.

Good to know that you can use the beverage package on Coco Cay.

Makes the decision even harder. Was going to rule out the Majesty of the Seas but now may be back in consideration

Princess Cays would be nice as well. I'm going with Elation on this. Five days, Princess Cays, updated ship, etc. We are booked on Elation this summer, before the upgrades. Opted to do a back to back, 5 day then 4 day, instead of spending a few days in St. Augustine. So looking forward to it!

Are you guys flying in or driving? I haven't found as many park and cruise hotels as Port Canaveral offers. I think we are probably going to park at the port for convenience.

We will be driving in from Maryland. From our house to the Jacksonville port is just over 11 hours. We will probably drive about 8-9 hours the day before, get a hotel and then drive the final few hours into port in the morning.
