Confused re: Entertainment on board marina?

I am confused...reading the threads..I'm getting the sense that the only activities that are available during the evenings...are drinks and chat by the lounges or the casino? No shows? No production numbers? No solo performers?

No music form string quartet throughout the ship?

Thanks for any input re: CURRENT night time activities aboard the Marina?

Thanks!

In our experience there have been shows every evening, some are solo performers some are the productions numbers

on our January cruise they had some earlier shows as well by some of the entertainment staff

The string quartet played as usual in the GDR hallway

some people in the bars & casino drinking & chatting

there was a piano player in Martinis part of the evening other events in Horizons

There are shows every evening, great ones in my opinion -- we rarely miss them. However, they are attended by only about half of the passengers. A good percentage of the others go to bed right after dinner. A few hang out in Martinis (one friend holds up the bar and has to be coaxed to a show), some -- very few, in my experience -- go to the casino. After the show, around 10:30 PM, they roll up the sidewalks except for a stalwart few.

You will find the Entertainment Programs for each specific ship laid out very precisely here:

http://www.oceaniacruises.com/ships/lifestyle.aspx

But in general, the entertainment on Oceania is very much as it used to be on all cruise ships before Carnival took it upon themselves to insert their particular brand of "FUN" into the equation.

There is dancing to the ships Orchestra in the Main Show Lounge for thirty to forty five minutes; followed by a full "production show" on the stage in that Lounge, which usually runs for just slightly more than one hour.

After the show, those in search of another cocktail or some conversation head to Martinis, while terpsichoreans cha cha their way up to Horizons, where dance music (either a combo or a DJ) is played until midnight, or when the dance floor has emptied, whichever comes first.

There is entertainment. What we do is have a few drinks during happy hour in the main bar area and listen to music, have dinner and go to the show at 9:30, which we feel are very good. After the show is over it is pretty dead onboard. Some nights they have outdoor movies on the pool deck around 8:30. The main deal on O is dinner. If you are looking for a disco type place their is none.

You got it down right Doc !!.... maybe a few solo people and a string quartet at happy hour.... but aside from that...its the Bars and or TV... That's the way it was for me during 34 days on the Marina recently....

Not only was there not much of anything but after dinner 95% of the passengers disappeared into their cabins....the one exception was the smokers area. Here, I , a non smoker, discovered a whole slew of wonderful, entertaining happy people...

When I read your question " Entertainment on the Marina"... I immediately thought.. wow.you mean they have some?

Aw, cmon Dan, I like you and I know you like to exaggerate a bit, but 95% to their cabins? Have you ever been in the show lounge? It holds about 800 of the 1250 guests and is almost always full. Most of the performances get standing ovations. Try it sometime!

There are a lot of people that post that do go to bed well before 10 every evening. When there is a big popular port day the next day, late night on board can be slow. However, be very careful with reading posts from those that are in bed every night by 10 about what happens afterwards.

Months ago, I made a post about being surprised by the large number of people that either never, or rarely for short periods of time, ever leave the ship. My observation was from non Carribe cruises. It was amazing the number of people that responded and said it doesn't happen. How would they know? They are gone early, on tours, and don't get back until time to change for dinner! I myself wouldn't have guessed it, but my wife twisted her ankle on a tour and had to sit out a few days. We were in major ports, and the pool was packed, along with the pool bar! :D. I was amazed, when talking to actual cruisers, how many just wanted to relax on the cruise and lay around the pool and imbibe at bit. I remember talking to one group that it was their third year of the same exact cruise. They got off the ship when they wanted to and stayed aboard and just relaxed and visited most of the time. Meanwhile, many of the posters here were calling me a liar for saying these folks even exist. Why, they weren't on their tours and many of the posters never meet them. Same goes for night life. The Marina is more sedate that some of the cruise ships granted, but don't believe, from the early to bed folks, it is the rule of the entire ship.

I can equally say that I am amazed at the 18:30 - 19:00 diners that eat and go straight to their cabins for beddy bye or tv! They perhaps make a show a couple of time during the entire cruise, and then want to talk about the quality of entertainment, or what is happening in the casino at 21:00!

I honestly must say I am one in bed by 10.... except when something I find interesting is happening. In the past 15 years I think I have been to 5 shows

2 on celebrity in 2011, 2 On regent in 01 and 1 on Oceania in 14 . I don't just do something because its happening.

I do attend the specialist lectures when they are likewise interesting. For gambling... and shows, las Vegas is 3 hour drive from my hovel....

As nothing excited me... I can report that the TV first run movies on Oceania were exceptional..Frozen, Dallas Buyers,Wolf of Wall St, Nebraska, ( this was April 14)

This might sound a bit weird but I take cruises to simply enjoy the sea journey and the very interesting people one meets on such a journey.( The smokers particularly are categorically the cream of the crop when it comes to interesting, happy, outgoing and dynamic people .)

Food, Shows, Ports, Spa, boogie bands are all of minimal interest....The friggen ship is enough for me... Id be happy it the ship just sailed in circles for 2 weeks and all they served were chili dogs and Budweiser. .

On our recent British Isles cruise on Marina there was a show at 9:30 every night, including production shows, a magician, a singer and a pianist. The shows that we went to, especially the large production shows, were well attended every night. The singers and dancers are okay, about what one would expect. The magician happened to be excellent and a fun, very good entertainer.

As someone else wrote on another thread, the casino was pretty busy most every night, especially considering that our 10 day cruise was port intensive.

The one or two times that we strolled into Horizons around 10:30, one of them on karaoke night, there were not many late night revelers.

Both my wife and I got burned out on lobster... at The terrace one night she ordered a steak and the cooks threw 3 lobster tails on her plate... In Jaques the Lobster Thermadore was so huge I could only eat a 1/3 of it.... Oh too giant rock scallops.......move over lobster.

I finally connected with the Sous chefs that run booth waves and terrace, and they made up a special off menu chili dog that made me weep.. ( don't sell chili dogs short they can be gastronomic delights and few make them as haut dogs)

After 34 days I began to crave meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas.

I've been advocating for years for Waves to open in the evening, maybe a different theme each night -- ribs, fried chicken, meatloaf, wings, etc. In the evening, rename it as Comfort (food) Station. The thing that worries most about the World Cruise are the gourmet meals for 6 months - too much of a good thing. I will have my hot air popcorn popper packed...it's safe, uses less wattage than the supplied hair dryer.

I put that on my evaluation last cruise.

They absolutely should be open from 9 or 10 pm until 1 am.

Snacks, burgers, hot dogs, pizza...that's fine... no big deals, no special menus.. just food and bar service.

I guarantee ya that would light up the pool deck with activity at night. :p
